I just returned from a pretty awesome trip to Universal's Islands of Adventure. Let me just say - remind me to go again this time next year. Their was no lines at all. The longest I had to wait was literally 2 or so minutes to sit in the front on Hulk. There was hardly anyone there and it made for a pretty awesome day. However, some things did happen that made me distrubed and it reminded me, "This is truly not Disney."

One of which happened around lunch. We went in Comic Strip Cafe to eat lunch, hardly anyone was there. After getting a Salad (for me) and a Sandwich (for my sister) I asked very kindly for Ranch dressing. The lady glanced at me, gave me an evil eye, began to roll her eyes and said, "We don't have or serve Ranch." I said, okay. So I left to return to a table to sit down and eat. At this time I notice this lady did not give me my drinks. So I return to her and tell her this. Here was her response, "Well if you were not in a damn rush I would have gave it to you." Now, at this point I turned around looked at another customer standing in like and said - "Woah, you can tell this sure isn't Disney." The customer giggled and nodded in agreement.

Next happened as we were walking around in late afternoon. One castmember (do we call them that?) Asked someone to play a game. This customer said, "No Thanks." The guy kept pushing her to play. She said, "I said No." She then laughed and said, "Watch out I will get you fired." (She was totally joking it was so obvious) The castmember (wearing one of those microfones that everyone can hear) said, "That's fine then I wont have to work at this hell hole for minimum wage." Now, now... Okay - you don't like your job and you get paid a low amount but dude, come one!

I am totally not going to judge my experiece just on these two encounters because I truly did have a good day. Oh did I tell you - I bought a new outfit after getting SOAKED on almost all the water rides. Thanks for the warnings LOL!

Sounds like you had a great time!!!! :thumbsup2 Sorry about not letting you know about the water rides. LOL :grouphug:

You should've reported that employee. It has nothing to do with being Disney or Universal. I was just at Disney last week and there was a rude cart employee. My friends were there all day (I joined them at night) and they told me about another rude encounter. These people need to be reported. There's no reason for it.

What bothers me the most about your experiences with the two employees is that they would use language like "damn" and "hellhole" in a place made for children (of all ages! :thumbsup2 ). I would have reported them if possible.
Not that I never use colorful language... but NOT around the children!
Other than that I am thrilled to hear your report about how much fun you had and the lack of crowds. We are going to be there Dec 10-13... and hope the crowds won't have arrived yet either!

Sorry you experienced a couple of bitter employees. And glad you had a great time otherwise.

I was there for 9 days over Thanksgiving and only encountered the politest and most gracious of employees. Well, except one waitress from the twilight zone. However, it never crossed my mind that her ineptness was a reflection on how the entire resort was run. I just chalked it up to a bad waitress having a bad day. Certainly not that Universal has more lenient rules on employee behavior.

My experience at Disney with the employees that week was much the same. Everybody I encountered was very polite and helpful. Since many of the employees work at both parks, that makes sense.

I hope you did report those employees, as a rude person like that can reflect very poorly on the themepark and take away some of the pleasure of one's vacation, as evidenced by your declaration that it is not "like Disney."

It's unfortunate that someone hired these idiots, but assuming this is a "Universal thing" is ignorant at best. In fact, the two resorts share many of the same employees and neither would put up with this type of behavior. You should've reported them.
