Below were my observations/opinons/takeaways from Disney Dining Plan. There were five of us (4 Adults, 1 Child by Disney Standards). Daughter 10 is considered an adult and this would help us and cause confusion down the line. The food could have been a lot better but I am talking from the point of view that there was no cooking/cook prepping/buying groceries/cleaning up for an entire week so that is good for us to not have to do that.
We had the 1 TS/1 CS/1 snack plan.
All of our reservations were for dinner so we used the CS for breakfast and lunch. Because we apparently do eat a lot by Disney standards or the portions were big enough to split we used 3 CS meals for lunch and 2 CS meals for breakfast and this was plenty to split and be satisfied and not stuffed. Snacks were often used for breakfast or prior to lunch.
Our CS breakfast was at Caribbean Beach Resort 4 mornings and we ate at the Starbucks bakery at Epcot and MK once each.
Below were our CS Lunch Options:
MK Columbia Harbour House – Ordered 2 chicken nuggets and fish platters and a chicken pot pie and three desserts. For the drink if available we got the slush as it included and more refreshing than soda. We all were satisfied and thought the food was good.
HS ABC Commissary – We got two cheeseburgers and an Asian Salad with chicken and 3 desserts. Food here was decent, not great but certainly not as horrible as been described here.
Epcot – Morocco is where we ate and it was good.
Animal Kingdom – Flametree BBQ. We got two rib platters and a bbq sandwich platter. The ribs were a little rough to get off the bone. Certainly used to more meat that falls off the bone so that was a little disappointing. All the other food was good.
MK Pecos Bills – We split 2 nachos and a fajita platter. Food here was good as well.
Our Dinner Reservations: We have a 8 yr and a 10 yr old. Of course to us they are both kids but obviously to Disney the 10 yr old is considered an adult. I provided the ages of the kids when we booked the trip but for some reason or another, 2 of the restaurants (not sure which two) charged my daughter as a child and not an adult which we did not find out until after our 4th meal when there were no child meals left. So we had to talk with the servers at Sanaa and Ohana to charge son as an adult and not a kid. The benefit was more at Sanaa than anywhere else b/c son wanted a steak and all we had were adult meals left, so he was able to get a steak. Win for us. Also, keep up with your snacks. We heard from several people and experienced ourselves that snacks were just disappearing from your account. We lost about 5 snacks and were able to get them added at the end but that is just b/c we kept up with them. My wife is very Type A that way….which was a win for us.
Chef Mickey’s – I know the reviews or opinions of here are not that great but our dinner here was actually a step above good. Service was good. It was very clean and the character interaction was very good here. We never felt rushed all week from the servers from ourselves. We were at each restaurant for about 1.5 hrs.
1900 Park Fare – This was another place I was pleasantly surprised with. I thought the service was a step below Chef Mickey’s but the food was good. Kids ate well at all of our locations. Character interaction was good here. Not as good as our visit 5 years ago but still good. I remember the step sisters interacting with each other more last time as they went around and being very loud and obnoxious which is what made this experience last time more enjoyable.
Hollywood and Vine- by far our worst dinner experience. First we were sat right at the door where the photographers were taking pics with Daisy and after a minute of sitting here, we were asked to be resat. The food was terrible at best. Character interaction was the best of all the restaurants which was a win. The other win was that it was booked to get Fantasmic Fast Passes. Service was terrible as well. I was very disappointed all around. Definitely not worth even for a Fast Pass.
Garden Grill – Food and character interaction were good here. Service was a little slow but not terribly bad. Our first time here and was an enjoyable experience. Cool atmosphere.
Sanaa – Food was real good. Service was good. Cool to look out at the Savannah and see animals as you eat. Was definitely nice to not have a character dinning and will be looking for more of these type of restaurants in the future as the kids out grow the characters.
Ohana’s – Food was good. I hated eating lunch as late in the afternoon as we did prior to eating here b/c we did not take full advantage of eating. Service was good. Singer was good. Just a neat atmosphere.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Keep in mind that these were our opinions based on our experience.
Thanks,
Mike
