Just back - Star Tours question

I have ridden Star Tours many times over the years, and have always worn my small fanny pack (yeah, I know - don't judge) and more recently, my small VB Disney cross-body bag (much cuter, I admit!) with no issue. This trip, I rode it twice on Sun 12/4 - wore the bag as usual, no problem. On Tues, I rode it once and the CM made it a point to say that EVERY BAG needed to go under the seat - even cross-body bags. I complied, actually needing to undo my seatbelt to take it off, but the CM really seemed to be looking at someone further back (I was in the front row) and I figured someone back there must have a huge bag that was the issue. So, on Wed, there I was again - and had a different CM that was also stressing that ALL BAGS - INCLUDING CROSS-BODY BAGS - needed to go under the seat, and specifically pointed at me to motion that I needed to remove mine. I rode one more time on Sat, and again the "even cross-body bags!" instruction was given so apparently it's now part of the regular spiel.

So - did something happen with a bag during the ride recently to make them crack down on this? I find it amusing that I can wear my bag on ToT or any of the roller coasters - but not on Star Tours. My seatbelt goes over it, so there's no way it can go anywhere! :confused3

I have no knowledge of any particular incident but I believe I know the reason for the instruction. It is my understanding that parts of star tours actually retract your seat belt slightly to give the false impression of you moving either forward or up out of your seat. If you are wearing a bag that is under your seat belt when this happens, the strap of your bag could be pulled down with the lap belt creating a hazard around your shoulder or possibly neck. Just a thought.

That was my thought, as well. They have always been really strict about putting everything under your seat on Star Tours - I'm actually really surprised that you've gotten away with a fanny pack in the past.

Happened to me as well.

I've always worn my bag. I've never been asked to take it off.

But the second time I was on Star Tours on this trip, I was asked to remove it. Not the first time, only the second. It was weird.

In all the times I rode Star Tours I was only told to put my cross body bag under the seat once. We had a 10 day trip in September and only 1 time had to take it off. We just spent 5 days there and was never told to take it off.

I noticed during my last trip that they were being more strict about bags. I had to store my cross body bag and I hadn't had to before. No biggie.

What part of 'all carry on items' doesn't refer to a cross body bag? You are carrying it on your body, aren't you?

I don't consider a cross body bag "a carry on item". To me a carry on item is something you have in your hands that you carry on.

My guess would be some kind of safety concern that has come up in regards to the seatbelt. I used to work in attractions in a amusement park and sometimes it only takes one "close call" or incident to make a policy shift.
