Just returned this morning from a 10 day stay at WDW. We added on a day at the front and end of our originally 8 day trip. First night was spent at Sports. We weren't guaranteed of being able to have the same room at POR for this night. Since we weren't sure when we would arrive (We drove.), I went for the least expensive ressie I could find -- Sports at $92 ($104 after taxes). Now, we last stayed at Sports during our Xmas 2005 trip. We were not at all impressed during that stay. We were placed in Center Court, as far away from everything as possible. Upon arrival, the room was none too clean, housekeeping was poor, and nearly all CMs encountered were unfriendly. Thus, I was not expecting much this time around -- just a room on-site at a fairly reasonable rate (certainly not the $59/night we paid at Xmas but not bad nonetheless).
Well, we were all quite pleasantly surprised by our great visit here July 13th-14th. CMs were wonderful. Upon check-in, we were told that are assigned room would not be ready until after 4. We didn't really expect to get into a room mid-morning. We really just wanted to park our car and head to the parks. However, when the CM heard that we had been on the road for 15 hours, she said she would find us something available right then! Honestly, I expected a parking lot view room in the back of beyond (and really didn't care all that much since we would only be here for one night); but we were given room 9261 in the Homerun section. We had a partial view of the Grand Slam pool. On the resort map, this building looks so far away from the main building. Not so! It was actually closer than our former room to the food court. Since we could walk around the perimeter of the resort to the bus stops, this area was much closer. To make things even better, our room had JUST been refurbished. (Was it a former smoking room??? No smell of smoke.) Fresh carpet, mattresses, bed linens, curtains, and paint. (It did still have that new paint smell, but it wasn't bad at all.) We all agreed that we would have been comfortable staying here all week.
