My wedding was held August 12 at the Wedding Pavilion. Here are the reviews from me and also from my guests of the resorts.
We checked into the Contemporary on August 8. Our guests were set to arrive on the 10th. When we checked in, we were upgraded to a Tower room with a MK view. We didn't ask, so it was a really nice surprise. Definitely started our wedding and honeymoon trip off with some magic. We were on the 8th floor. To be honest, I thought the room was ugly. There was also this orange stripe on the carpet that I kept trying to step over because I thought it was an electrical cord! Having said that, I wouldn't let the decor stop me from staying there. Just an observation that, to me, it was ugly.
My guests, however, said they probably wouldn't stay there again. They were also all upgraded to the Tower with MK view. They were all on the 6th floor. I think that the Contemporary did a wonderful job planning for my group since we were on the 8th floor - away from the guests, so we could have privacy - yet, we were only two floors above and all the guests were together. It must be their experience with conventions. Anyway, the main complaint from the guests was the noise. They said the entire room shook when the monorail passed under them. They also said Chef Mickey's woke them up at 7am every morning with the music and singing. I didn't have any problems with that on the 8th floor. So, I guess requesting a room high up is a good idea. The only thing that disturbed me was the Character Caravan when it pulled up outside the hotel. I just went right back to sleep after it left though! No such luck with my guests since Chef Mickey's doesn't just go away.
One issue we all had was the Do Not Disturb sign. Nobody got one. I asked for one, so no problems there. One room, which had two of my friends in it, was repeatedly bothered by housekeeping and the front desk on the day of check-out. First, the maid walked in on them at 8am. Then, two more times, the same maid knocked on the door until my friend told her not to come back. This was at 9:30am. That was when the phone started to ring. It can only be described as crank calling. They could tell it was the front desk by the sounds, but nobody was talking. Finally, they called down and told them to knock it off. It stopped. They had planned on checking out at 10am to come to our room to wait for their flight, but they sat in that room until 11am just out of spite.
All in all, I would definitely stay there again, but I would stay concierge just to be sure that I was up high enough not to be bothered by the noise. Also, I doubt that the front desk would call a concierge room in an attempt to get the room free! I really liked the hotel and my guests did, too, but they wouldn't stay there again. Just a personal preference, I guess! My advice is to try it because I didn't think I was going to like it that much. Just request a room high up and away from Chef Mickey's. Oh...and request a Do Not Disturb sign if you don't have one!
