Here's my restaurant reviews for our 10 day trip to WDW.

We were staying at Fort Wilderness campground and took advantage of that for a few of our meals.

There were 6 of us on vacation but not all of us ate together for every meal. DH and I like to eat out more at WDW than DH’s relatives wanted to so we separated for meals often.

Breakfast

Rainforest Cafe at Animal Kingdom - I had earned a $50 gift certificate to the Rainforest Cafe and I was saving it just for this meal. There were 6 of us for this meal and none of us walked away hungry! A few of us could have shared but we were all starving and had no idea how big the portions would be. Between us all we had waffles, french toast, breakfast pizza, eggs benedict, and a breakfast burrito. Everyone loved their food and also enjoyed their frozen smoothies - YUM! Our bill was around $100, but I think that included the gratuity. We would definitely go back again. If their was one downside I would say it was that they don’t open any earlier. We had the first seating available which was for 8:30. I don’t think the PS was necessary at all, as they didn’t even ask us our names.

1900 Park Fair at the Grand Floridian - This was our ladies only breakfast while the guys went on their fishing excursion. I made our PS the night before and didn’t really have a problem getting a decent time (7:50 PS). We were seated right away. Our characters for the day were Pooh, Tigger, Alice, and Mary Poppins. Not nearly as many characters as I saw last time we ate their, but it was still fun. It wasn’t crowded at all at that time either. The food was hot and fresh and very good. I love any buffet that has Mickey waffles and strawberries though, so I was happy! :)

One small breakfast item worth mentioning was a cinnamon roll that we shared at Animal Kingdom. I had read that they were very good and we weren’t disappointed!

Lunch

Kona Cafe at the Polynesian - This was a date for my husband and I. We have eaten at Kona on a previous trip and both enjoyed it, so we ventured back. I didn’t make a PS for this and we didn’t have any problems getting seated. I think it was right around 11:30 or 12:00. We ordered pot stickers, a pan seared chicken pasta and saved room for a wonderful banana creme brulee. A very good meal!

ABC Commissary at MGM - We wanted a quick meal and this was our closest counter service at the time. My DH had the tabouli wrap with a side of white rice. The wrap usually comes with marinated tomatoes but they gladly substituted the rice for him instead. I had a childrens meal with macaroni and cheese and small pop. DH thought the wrap was great and I thought my mac and cheese was just ok. I wouldn’t probably return there, DH probably would because he did like the wrap.

Blizzard Beach - Not wanting to make the effort to pack a lunch for the water park we just ate counter service. It was very busy that day (I’m sure it’s busy every day though) and after standing in line for quite awhile we both ordered a BBQ pork sandwich. One of us ordered ours as a meal so we could share the cheetos and pop. I did hear them say that they only had 5 turkey legs left when we were ordering - I don’t know if they ran out for the day or if they were able to get more in for the lunch crowd. The sandwiches were a typical BBQ sandwich, but hit the spot perfectly.

Wolfgang Puck Express at Downtown Disney - during a busy day of shopping we heard the rumbles of our stomachs and decided to check out Wolfgang Puck Express. We walked away agreeing that if the parks had counter service that good we would be in heaven! We shared a BBQ chicken sandwich on a great hard crusted roll and we ordered a side of garlic mashed potatoes. The only problem we had was trying to decide what to order as everything looked very good!

Dinner

Beaches and Cream - A definite favorite of ours. We had to wait about 20 minutes or so for a table. We could have sat at the counter but we were willing to wait. I told everyone to save room for ice cream but no one listened. I had purchased 2 connections vouchers before we left and planned on surprising everyone with a kitchen sink. I also really wanted to share a hamburger but no one was willing to do that either. Needless to say we all waddled out of there. Everyone had a cheeseburger and fries, I had a hamburger. We ordered 2 orders of onions rings with the vouchers. DH’s Aunt and Cousin both had malts even though I warned them! LOL! They did the usual production with the kitchen sink, dimming the lights and making a big announcement. We didn’t even put a dent in it! I would say it was one of the highlights of our trip though just because it was so fun and it tasted great too.

Norway - Counter Service - Epcot - We were just looking for a small snack for dinner and I went in the bakery in Norway to see what I could find. I came out with a ham and cheese open face sandwich and some lefse. DH and I were both pleasantly surprised. We thought it was a great small dinner. The lefse was no where near as good as my grandma’s but it wasn’t bad. It had butter, cinnamon and sugar on it. I would definitely return to Norway.

Morroco - I just had to add this even though it’s very minor. The same evening that we had our open face sandwich in Norway DH also stopped in Morocco and got a dish of tabouli and a Morrocan beer. He LOVED the tabouli, he even wanted to go back there another night for some more, but we didn’t make it.

‘Ohana at the Polynesian - I was so excited to try this meal that I had hyped everyone up for it. I’m very happy to say it didn’t disappoint us! We had the greatest waitress named Marjie who gave us her 2 rules for dining with her. Rule #1 - no bursting. Rule #2 - have fun. We followed both rules, but barely managed to follow rule #1. We had seconds and thirds of the wontons, salad, and peanut dipping sauce (I would love to find the recipes for all of those things!) DH’s Aunt and I liked the turkey the best and the guys liked the shrimp. DH’s cousin really wanted seconds of the pineapple and caramel but Marjie told him it would cost him. He obliged when he found out that all it would cost him was a HUG! We joined in the fun of the hula hoop contest but were no match for an adorable little seven year old who could hula with the best of them! We will be going back to Ohana the first chance we get!

Pecos Bill’s - Magic Kingdom - DH’s cousin was drooling the first time he saw the build your own burger bar. We actually saw the one at Pinocchio’s Village House when we stopped in for some french fries. We happened to be looking for a quick dinner one night in the rain and the wait was to long for the Plaza Restaurant and the Plaza Pavilion didn’t look all that appealing so we started walking and found ourselves over by Pecos Bill’s. I have to agree with most things that I’ve read about Pecos Bills - for a counter service hamburger it really was pretty good. The boys loved the mushrooms and onions that they piled on their burger. I loved the warm cheese that I drown my french fries in!

Boma - Animal Kingdom Lodge - This was another date night for DH and I. We both liked Boma but neither one of us loved it. I’m glad we did it just so we could say we tried it and neither one of us went away hungry. It just wasn’t our favorite place. We tried everything there was to try. There just wasn’t one thing that we loved so much that we had to run back and get seconds of it. I take that back - if we wouldn’t have been full we both might have gone back for the miniature pineapple cheesecakes, those were heaven. AKL is a beautiful resort and we had a very relaxing evening at Boma. I think we both discovered that we don’t like the taste of curry very much and a lot of the dishes use curry. Again - I’m not saying it was horrible, it just didn’t fit our tastes. I’m so glad we did it though as it was a great experience!

LeCellier - Canada - This was a last minute PS on our last park day of our trip. It turned out to be another date for DH and I. We were a little late for our PS but still only had to wait 10 minutes or so to be seated. We were seated almost exactly in the same spot as we ate a year and a half ago. We decided to share the surf and turf special with filet and a lobster tail. We also added on a side of asparagus and DH had the cheese soup and I had a ceaser salad. Did the soup and ceaser salad change or was I imagining things? The soup was great, I just thought it was a little creamier than last time, more like potato soup than cheese soup. The ceaser salad I had last time had huge shavings of parmesan cheese and this time it didn’t. We didn’t quite get what I thought we were getting for dinner though - through no fault of anyone at LeCellier. DH had placed our order for dinner while I stepped in to the rest room. He forgot that we had decided to order the surf and turf and instead order us a 14 oz. filet. We were both a little disappointed but we were able to add on the lobster tail for $10. I had a glass of wine and DH had a beer. It ended up being one of our more expensive meals at around $70 with tip, but it was very good and well worth it.

Snacks

Ice Cream Social - The Land - Epcot - DH’s relative’s weren’t really interested in a character meal but I knew they would enjoy meeting the characters so I booked the ice cream social for us all. We had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated. We enjoyed very large waffle cones stuck to fabulous chocolate chip cookies. The vanilla bean ice cream was wonderful! Chip, Dale, Mickey and Pluto came around to pose for pictures while we enjoyed our ice cream. Everyone enjoyed the break, the ice cream, and the characters!!

Ice Cream Parlor - MK - DH’s cousin and each had a very big and very wonderful waffle cone sundae from the ice cream parlor in the Magic Kingdom. Worth standing in line for during MK closing!

Kaki Gori - I must say, they are as good as everyone says they are. DH and I shared a cherry, I wish we would have each gotten one. Pat on the back to both of us though for not spilling cherry syrup all over our clothes :)

Ghiradelli - We decided to make a late night stop to Downtown Disney after the ice cream shop at MGM closed promptly at 9:00 (how dare they ;) ). Everyone had gigantic ice cream cones with the exception of DH and I, we shared a big caramel sundae - rave reviews from everyone!!

Italy - We couldn’t walk past the cart in Italy without a treat. DH and I ended up with a chocolate covered strawberry and his relatives shared a tirimusu - heard no complaints, everyone had their mouths full!

Candy shop - Magic Kingdom - boy did we do some damage here! I had a caramel apple, DH, cousin #1 and aunt had chocolate covered pretzels (reese’s pieces covered and toffee covered), and cousin #2 walked away with a big box of fudge that we snacked on all week (I highly recommend the peanut butter fudge).

Candy shop - MGM - Another caramel apple for me (I just can’t pass those things up), a bag of jelly beans for cousin #1 and slushies for cousin #1 and #2. By the end of the trip we had also purchased 3 bags of small chocolate covered pretzels (consider this a public service announcement that those darn things are highly addicting). One bag we all ate while we were there, another was for our drive home and one was a treat for a friend. I believe that 2 chocolate covered strawberries were purchased from here on our way in to Fantasmic one evening. OK, you can stop, I can hear the Oink, Oink sounds all the way over here!

The one PS that we had but had to cancel was for ‘50s Prime Time - I am still a little disappointed that we didn’t make this one, but I guess we’ll just visit it next time :)

We had and always do have a great time eating at WDW, it’s always one of the highlights of our trip.

:) Thanks for reading :)

Sounds like a great trip, eating-wise! Thanks for sharing your reviews. :)

Thanks for all the details - it's making me hungry and I just ate! But how did you have time to do anything except eat? :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

I made a PS here because of all the rave reviews, but I didn't realize that most of the food had curry in it! I hate that taste. Do they put it on everything?

Thank you for taking the time to write all your food reviews! You ate at many of our favorite places to eat. We enjoy the various choices of foods the ABC Commissary.

I second the thanks for the tip about curry at Boma. This would be a deal breaker for me in deciding between Boma and Jiko's. Sounds like a great trip.

Now I'm really hungry for lunch!

We must have similar tastes. We LOVED Ohana's, but hated Boma's. Alright, you didn't hate it, but we did. Nearly everything we tried was sweet--super sweet. Blech!

Welcome home, Tamie. Thanks for the reviews. :D

I don't think they use curry in everything - but in quite a few things.

I chose Boma because it was a buffet and I figured the different choices might be better for us because we didn't know what we would and wouldn't like. On our way out we looked at the menu at Jiko and both agreed that we might have been able to find something we liked better there.

It really is a personal choice though - others love it.

yes Janice, it seemed like a lot of stuff was very sweet. They try an interesting blend between sweet and tangy that didn't really appeal to us. There was a plantain soup that both my husband and I really disliked, but we both liked the Moraccan seafood soup.

Fantastic reviews! Thank you so much for sharing them with us - I love the details!

Kaki Gori is kind of like a snow cone - but MUCH better.

They have different flavors - strawberry, melon, lime (i think), cherry....

We didn't have that "running out of syrup at the bottom of the cone" thing you get sometimes. It was VERY good!

a girl after my own heart you ate your way through wdw
you stopped at every ice cream shop (a must)
and enjoyed it all

Just kidding you. But it really sounds like you enjoyed it all

First time in a while that a review has made my mouth water! The first time we went to 'Ohana we were just like you, loved it! I wish we would have left that memory well enough alone! We are Boma fans. Sorry you weren't, but you wouldn't have known if you hadn't given it a try. Just curious, did you ask if you could take a peek at the buffet before you were seated so you could determine if it would appeal to you? I've been trying to do that more lately. Thanks for posting, Tamie!

luv2nascar - yep, I have a weekness for ice cream :)

Belle5 - No, we didn't take a peek and see if we thought it appealed to us, not a bad idea though. We still would have done it after looking at it. We are willing to try new things and you are right, we had to try it first to see if we liked it. It was a great experience and I'm glad we did it.
