Hi Disers,
We're just back from a hot and sunny 5 day holiday. We had to switch our room after one night and this has put the brakes on any ideas of resort switching for me. You essentially lose part of your fully paid day if the room that you are going into isn't ready. I know for others this is no problem but I just found it to be a pain in the...
We enjoyed conc. as always and loved the LV. Our kids are small enough that jammies go on, out to the balcony at 9 for EWP and then watch the fireworks(if any) and right into bed. With that said, the beach is so accessible to all Poly guests and so inviting that it isn't necessary at all to have a LV to be part of the night time festivities.
We used the Neverland Club twice and went to Mgm, AK and MK twice.
We ate at 50's Prime time, Victoria and Albert's, Kona Cafe, Cinderella's breakfast, Hoop-Dee-Doo(did 7pm hayride but petting zoo closed at 5pm),Captain Cook's and the California Grill.
The concierge offerings were even of a greater variety this time for breakfast but I can't comment on the 5-7pm food since we didn't eat there. All in all a good trip but a little sad with all the talk about the deaths at the Contemporary and Grand Floridian last THurs. and Friday. I don't know any first hand details but some unnamed workers did share their stories and it made you feel so sad for the families.
All for now. Threehearts

Hi again!
I forgot to add that there was a MARKED increase in customer service. We had a problem with our room and the housekeeping manager came up personally twice to inspect the room, he called twice and the Hawaii building manager(housekeeping) personally took care of the carpeting situation.
I bought my daughter a music box at the Tinkerbell cart in the MK and after getting it back to the Poly, realized that it had no key. The concierge CM contacted the merchandising dept. who came by, picked it up and returned with a new box. Later that evening, the merchandising head called to check that we were satisfied. Unbelievable service. Also, the concierge staff doesn't always advertise the goodies that they have out back in the kitchen but this time they were walking aroung putting whipped cream on hot chocolate, bringing out chocolate milk, yogurt, juice boxes etc.. Wonderful!!

wow sounds like you had a fabulous trip!! *disney magic* again :D -Cris

Welcome home......glad the vaca went well. We are booking this month for our 2003. We are trying Poly-Conc. With your review, I know we are on the right track. My kids are older, 13 - 17. We are thinking of garden view, figuring we will probably be out for fireworks. Did you find the Hawaii Building nice all the way around? We are thinking first floor, GV. How was the pool? One daughter will be pool side most of the day! Did you rent the Mouse Boats? Love those things. I hope they have LOS for the boats. Oh....Lisa wants to know if there were pancakes, toast or bagels at the lounge or is she off to the restaurant?
Thanks for the info........

When you're having a great vacation!

I have always said that if you don't see what you want in concierge (especially at Polynesian) ASK! Chances are they have it in back OR will make it available the next day (for me it's tomato juice in the a.m., the kids it's chocolate milk, and for my husband it's caffeine free Diet Coke).

I'm always amazed at the lounge staff's ability to remember the guests day-to-day, year after year, even. When they see my husband (or me) entering the lounge, they bring my tomato juice from the kitchen, ditto the kids' chocolate milk. The caffeine free Diet Coke they hand over in a 6 pack for storage in our fridge. It's the willingness to make you happy that adds up to great service for us! Sometimes they can't accommodate, but we've always found the concierge staff ready and willing to try. I'm glad you found the service likewise.

I would like to know what you mean by more extensive offerings during the a.m. service? What did they have that was different and did you get a difinitive answer on the doughnuts in the a.m. (a question raised in another thread)?

Couldn't agree with you more about LV vs GV in concierge. If my kids were younger (like yours and when they were) the LV was more of a priority. Now that they are older, we aren't in our room to enjoy the view across the Lagoon--either they are in the pool or want to be on the beach or we're in the park.

Anticipation is nearly fever pitch here and we still have quite awhile to go! Anticipation is half the fun though!

Counting down the days to our next visit. Happy to hear you had a magical trip.

Aloha

Thanks for the great report. Welcome back. We will be there 59 days from now.

Steve

Threehearts...sounds like a great trip!

DIXIEDAYS...they do have LOS plan for the boats. We did that at the end of March. When we in concierge in Oct., they had bagels and bread to toast but no pancakes. I agree about GV vs. LV with older kids. When ours were little we enjoyed LV because the kids could play in the sand while I sat on the patio...I'm not a sun basker. Now that they're older, I don't want to pay the difference. The GV rooms seem a little more private, too.

Can you hear any pool noise in your room at night from a GV room?

SO glad to hear that you had a wonerful time! Our family will be heading to the Polynesian (concierge, LV) May 12th - 19th for the very first time. We usually stay in the YC/BC/EPCOT area so this will be a change for us. Our kids are 3 & 7 so the idea of jammies on the balcony sounds great!

Jill...who is REALLY starting to get excited!! :)

No pool noise has ever been noticed on the GV side in the visits we've made. We've been on 1st and 3rd floors. . .it's the quiet pool that you overlook and it's not called "quiet" for nothin'! ;)

I keep reading all post on LV & GV, trying to convince myself to go with the GV. Every trip has been LV and I'm never in the room long enough to fully enjoy it. The view of the pool looks very nice with tiki torches all lit at night. As threehearts said the beach is so close as well as the lounge area to beable to view the EWP and fireworks.

Hi Guys!
I'll try to respond to a few questions-

1) They had more choices for breakfast in cereals and types of danish pastries. They had a few more dessert choices at night. They were fully stocked with caffeine-free diet Coke right in the iced barrel out front.
2) DIXIEDAYS- The pool was fairly crowded from 2-5:30 but still enjoyable. The pool was very empty during the dinner hours and then picked up again after supper. The biggest annoyance was the lovebugs in the pool. There were many fewer this year than before at this time so don't get in a panic over it but they were definitely arriving on the 29th and 30th.
We didn't rent water mice this time but we absolutely love them when we do.
All around, the Hawaii building was much the same. The Poly is not deluxe in the traditional expectation(IMHO) but overcomes the lack of luxurious rooms in resort ammenities.
No pancakes or doughnuts but believe me there is something for everyone at breakfast.
3) Steve- they are anxiously awaiting your return and more positive press from the Tikiman.

Lastly- We asked the boat captain who does the Poly, GF to MK run (on the original lagoon boats) if we could do a couple of round trips with him and it was so relaxing to sit and feel the breezes after dinner. The kids got to sit right up front and he answered all of their questions. A wonderful FREE thing to do. Threehearts

Karen

Thanks all for the info. Glad all went well for you and yours.

That LOS for the mouse boats sounds great! Looking forward to vaca. Now we are deciding 3rd floor or first floor walk out......decisions, decisions......

Thank You for such a nice report! My hubby and kids ages 2 and 5 and myself will be staying at the Poly Concierge GV 3 weeks from today. This is my 3rd visit to WDW (staying off site both times before) and My hubby and kids first visit! I booked the Poly Concierge and I am so glad I did. Have heard so much good about it. My kids and husband have never been there (like I mentioned) so I wanted to make it extra special. Just going to WDW for the first time will be great but to stay at such a wonderful resort is just an added bonus!

:)
