Just back/park observations...

To the OP: So sorry to hear about your annoying encounters. I have to agree that it is often the adults at Disney who misbehave much more often than the children.

The peanut butter cracker incident ... oy vey. What a strange encounter. I certainly wouldn't have given in, in that situation, either.

Er, what? The fact that people who would otherwise not be able to enjoy the parks can now do so is somehow an "embarrassment to our species"? I would think it is more a testament to the fact that we (well, apparently some of us) care enough about handicapped/disabled people to provide them with the means to enjoy themselves just like the more fortunate.

Agreed. I'm sure those folks loved shelling out the rental fees, waiting in line at rope drop to reserve the ECV while others are running to get FPs, going slower than everyone else, getting dirty looks, and spending that extra "fun" time loading on the buses. :rolleyes1

Surprised there's not a "I can't believe how insensitive people are at Disney" thread by the eagle-eyed woman who freaked out over a peanut butter cracker from 30ft away. :)

Its amazing how many people now days have no respect for others. OP did the right thing and i commend you. I don't think i could show that much restraint if someone pointed there finger at me, my wife, or son.

Agreed!! Congratulations on restraining yourself! :yay:

The peanut lady is really something else. Maybe she can spot a peanut butter cracker but can she tell who might have eaten a peanut product before they came into her line of sight? People around her might have peanut butter all over themselves for all she knew.

People are getting weirder and ruder all the time.

We were there at WL at the same time! I agree about the ECV's--I can't believe how many people had them! There was a couple who drove them literally right into Via Napoli right up to the reservation desk and blocked almost the whole lobby. But that's another story...

So sorry your kids had to go through that at the parade--I can't believe someone would carry on...oh wait....after some of the things we saw last week, I'll believe anything! I think the heat makes people crazy.

It's nice to see a great report on Disney, food, hotel, parks, etc.

That being said... I can't imagine your frustration with the PB people- last night we talked with our kids about our upcoming trip... We talked a lot about how many times we see families fighting, disagreeing, etc. at the parks and how it is so important that we are a family that LOVES each other, and is kind and respectful & HAPPY! HOWEVER, if the Peanut Butter Police decided to go down that road with my family- I am thinking either my husband or I would pretty much lose all of our pixie dust & happy place in a second.

:thumbsup2Great job in how you handled the situation!:thumbsup2

Wow!

Now I have no problem being sensitive to a peanut allergy if asked nicely, but that family completely overreacted. What an example to their kids. OP - don't feel bad, you didn't start it and I admire a man that stands up for his family and the woman he loves.

One time, at a baseball game, I had bought our kids a couple of buckets of peanuts to crack and keep them busy. Another family came after us and sat in front of us. The mother saw that the kids had peanuts (which they were cracking, eating and dropping the shells on the ground) and nicely asked if the kids could find another way to dispose of the shells, due to her teenager's allergy. She was so nice about it that I had no problem granting her request. She reiterated that she did not want them to stop eating them, just contain the shell debris better. Well we had them combine the remaining peanuts in one of the buckets, and used the others for the shells. Everybody was happy.

However, if she had been a hag about it, I don't know that I would have been willing to do anything. It's all in how you ask in my opinion.

The ECV thing - I know what you mean. However, my sister sometimes needs to rent one there, and she has stated that they seem to sometimes have 2 speeds. Tortoise or hare.

Also, what some people (not the OP) may not understand, is that they don't just stop on a dime. You have to release the little button, or handle or whatever that model is equipped with that makes them stop and go. Once you do, it does not brake to a sudden stop like a car. It cuts the battery and slows to a stop. That may mean 1 or 2 feet. That 1 or 2 feet may mean the difference between missing someone or running into them. The only time you will see an ECV make a sudden stop is if it runs into something or someone. Experienced drivers know this and usually are attentive to someone stopping in front of them or suddenly cutting in front of them, and leave enough room to avoid collisions. Unfortunately, there are too many inexperienced drivers in the parks.

OP - I agree also with what you said about the heat. When we were there in July, it was as hot as I've ever felt it there. I know that my fuse was shorter, and I suspect it really brings out the crazy in the weirdos that have issues to begin with!

I think that if someone uses an ECV at Disney World, it isn't up to anyone else to judge them for it. They could have something that doesn't show that keeps them from being able to walk as much as you have to at WDW. Yes, they should be careful and respectful of other people just like everyone should. And I can assure you most people would rather be able to walk without pain.

I think the poster who said it was an "embarrassment" specifically noted that they were referring to the OVERUSE of them, not the normal use for those that truly need and benefit from them.

And they are judging who is and isn't "overusing" them exactly how? I just don't get this. I will never "get" it. It is no one's business if someone else needs to use an ECV. Unless you are that individual using it, you have no idea why they are using it. I don't go around pointing at people pushing their kids in strollers and say they are "overusing" them even though they are ubiquitous in the parks now.

Actually, I have known of a few times of overusing or not using them appropriately, but that is a thread all in itself!!! No need to open this one up to that kind of thread LOL
