Just returned from a great ten day visit. We do roughly ten days every year. We are considering a cruise next year.
Our 2010 top ten observations/comments are as follows.
1. Yachtsman Steakhouse must consider a change in quality of ingredients and preparation. Two years ago, we had a great dinner at Yachtsman. This trip, the cut of meat and the preparation were several notches below what we expect from a high end steak house. What upset me most was a change in the creamed spinach. Before the refurb last year, the spinach was rich and creamy with a crunchy cheese crust. This year, the crust was no more and onions are added to the dish. I have never had creamed spinach with onions.
2. This was our first stay at Port Orleans Riverside and it was beautiful. I cannot recommend it enough. The grounds were immaculate, housekeeping acceptable and the food options were OK.
3. We bought the dining plan the first year it was introduced, but decided against it every subsequent year as it lost it's value in our opinion. Well, we added what we spent this year and the deluxe plan would have saved us a few dollars. We ate at Jiko, Yachtsman, etc. and will post a trip report with the details including dining. We plan to purchase the deluxe plan for all future visits.
4. Downtown Disney has to be a priority for WDW. The Marketplace is nice (Tren D is great), but Westside and Pleasure Island seem to be dying. It seems to be in a transition period and there have been rumors for years, but I would like to see some hard plans for the future of Downtown Disney.
5. Magic Kingdom had a lot of scrims up and it is nice to see MK getting attention. The Fantasyland expansion is exciting as well. We were at MK until 2:30am (Extra Magic Hours) and work was full bore behind the temporary walls.
6. I have said it before and I will say it again----World Showcase needs a shot in the arm (a new addition or two). It is beautiful, just a bit "stale".
7. 'Ohana was good as usual (bring the potatoes back please!). It may be the best value on site.
8. DHS is moving up on my list. I love the theming and it would be great to get the rumored Monsters Inc. coaster.
9. It was very hot the entire ten days (low to mid 90s) and the majority of the stores/shops had the doors open with no noticeable air conditioning. We have gone in the summer years past and it seems as though WDW has cut back on the air conditioning. So much so, it was immediately noticeable.
10. Prices have increased noticeably on merchandise, especially the small ticket items we buy for friends and family. Seems as though our buck did not go as far. We understand prices increase year after year, but prices seemed to increase dramatically from last year.
Any questions, please let me know.
Ron
