We arrived back yesterday at 7am after 16 fantastic days in Orlando. I hope to find time to write my trip report but in the meantime I thought I’d share with you the highlights of our trip while it’s still fresh in my mind.:)

We flew Virgin on Friday 16th May and stayed in a lovely villa in Bass Lakes (just behind Walmart – so convenient, must have spent hours in there!!) ;) We did all four Disney parks (Epcot and AK twice), Universal Studios and IOA, Sea World, Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon, Disney Quest and Discovery Cove.

Main highlight – Discovery Cove. What a fantastic day! Although our third visit to Florida, it was our first trip to DC and a surprise for the kids. We all thoroughly enjoyed the whole day. The dolphin swim was pure magic, but also the coral reef and aviary were superb and we felt like special guests the whole day.

Best rides:
The Simpsons Ride (U.S.) –it opened the day we flew out. Rode it several times and saw more jokes each time. Only draw back is the front row is much better than the back. Tall people have to sit in the front row and on one occasion I had to sit behind a large gentleman and had a severely restricted view.
Toy Story Mania (HS)– again this was new while we were over there. A really clever and fun ride.
Everest (AK) – I am a wimp when it comes to coasters but forced myself to do this one and I loved it! (Not keen on looking down on the steep climb up!)
The Mummy (US) – Flushed with my new-found bravery, I tried this one too and enjoyed it.

Best shows:
Lion King (AK) I just love the music in this one.
Nemo (AK) A new one to us and I though it was very professional.
Blue Horizons and Shamu: Believe (SW). What can I say? such beautiful, intelligent creatures.
Fantasmic (HS) Missed it last visit so really appreciated it this time.

Best meal experience/worst meal experience:
Bomos (AKL) After getting advice from these forums, I went ahead and booked a dinner here. We all loved the lodge and explored a little before dinner. Treated ourselves to cocktails in the bar, then sat down to a lovely meal. Really good choice of interesting food. Unfortunately, by dessert I was feeling unwell and managed to embarrass myself by fainting in the middle of the restaurant. :faint: The Disney staff were wonderful and called the paramedics. I was feeling even more embarrassed by then but after I passed out a second time I was taken to hospital as my heart rate was slow and blood pressure was low. To cut a long story short, after several worrying hours and numerous tests I was given the all clear and was able to go home. I felt awful for spoiling such a lovely evening for the family.:sad2:
Other good meals we had were at Tony Romas and Macaroni Grill.
A poor meal was had at the Sizzlin Grill on the 192. There was a bad smell of dirty carpets and the food was average.

Another highlight – A helicopter ride over Disney, an additional surprise for the kids
And a final highlight was seeing the shuttle launch on Saturday. We didn’t drive over to the coast as we had heard horror stories about the traffic and didn’t want to spend the last day of our holiday in the car. However, we watched the televised countdown on TV then rushed out side of our villa just in time to see the shuttle in the distance with the flames shooting behind it. It disappeared behind clouds for a few moments then reappeared in time for us to just make out the booster rockets being jettisoned. As the Americans would say –it was awesome!

Sorry to go on (and on, and on!) but I wanted to share with people who may be interested. I return to work tomorrow and no-one there has been to Florida so I shall have to keep quiet in the interest of not boring everyone to death!

Ali :yay:

Sounds like a fantastic trip with some magical moments.

How brilliant to see the shuttle as well

Consider it your duty to convert them all!

Sounds like you've had a great time.

sounds likely you had a truely wonderful trip!

If you dont mind me asking, who did you book the helicopter flight with and how long do you get?

Sounds like you were well looked after, hope everything is ok. Look forward to reading your trip report, always fancied the helicopter trip myself, very jealous! :thumbsup2

Thanks for your comments.

Morgstar - We took the helicopter flight with Orlando Helitours located on the 192(www.orlandohelitours.com). There are many companies about but this company had a large enough helicopter to seat 4 passengers - we wanted to fly as a family. There is no need to book - just turn up. Flights start at $20 per adult for a short flight but we paid $50 for about 10 minutes (and we found a discount voucher in a booklet for a few dollars off). In that time we saw Downtown Disney, Typhoon Lagoon, Hollywood Studios, AK, Epcot, Blizzard Beach and more. The pilot gave a very good running commentry of what we could see. I can certainly recommend it, we all loved it.

Sounds like you had a great time.
Glad the Disney staff looked after you when you took ill. I'm looking forward to dining at Boma we'll be celebrating my daughters 16th birthday!

WOW, it sound like you had a very magical time, now all you have to do is book the next one!!:rotfl2:

Sounds like you had a lovely time.
The helicopter is something I would like to try when my girls get older.

WOW-Sounds like you had a fantastic time, can't wait for a proper full trip report, especially since you went to UNI,IOA+Seaworld as well:thumbsup2 .We love the other theme parks.
I do hope your ok now after being unwell.x.

Sounds like a wonderful trip :thumbsup2 , sorry you were ill, I hope your all recovered now?. The helicopter flight sounds great, think I may have to look into this???. Can't wait to hear more about your trip :goodvibes

Thanks everyone for your concern about my health. I must admit at the time I was really worried it was more serious and would ruin the holiday (or worse). Luckily, I was much better the next day although we had to change "the plan". It should have been a full day at MK the following day but we switched it to the following week instead and had a relaxing day at the villa with a shopping trip to Downtown Disney. I told them my plan was flexible!!

I nearly fainted all over again when I received the hospital bill - total charge $4.405.26!!! :faint: We do get a discount for prompt payment - I just hope and pray the insurance company don't find a reason not to pay up! :scared:

Glad you had a blast! sounds amazing trip (apart from fainting! lol) you shouldnt be thinking that people on here will be bored or think you went on a little, after all thats why we all come on these boards to hear great stories like yours!. For anyone wanting to know we went on the helicoter trip across from the crazy golf on i-drive not the pirate one the other one, cant quite remember what its called, one with a lot of steam and water? was well priced the trip and an amazing experience.

Glad you had a great time and are feeling better, we ahve experienced the $$ of a hospital visit, when you get that bill it makes you feel ill all over again, our insurance company were great and it was sorted quickly.

Can I just ask why tall people have to sit at the front of the simpsons ride, is this a ride requirement or just an opinion - as 3 of us are 6'+ thanks

I was taken to Celebration Hospital. Ironically, I had hoped to visit Celebration during the holiday but not in an ambulance! :rotfl:

Have I got any pictures? I only managed to take 693! I think I had better edit them before having friends round to see them :rotfl2:
I would post some here but I'm not sure how to do it.
