Hey-- Just back and thought I'd share our dinning experiences :goodvibes

Background: We stayed at AKL. Our family includes 2 adults and one 7 year old boy (kind of picky eater).

Okay here we go:

Arrival night- we were to tired to go into the parks so we thought we'd try Boma's-- not crowded and we got right in without a PS. Smelled wonderful. I liked the atmosphere and we sat by a window which was nice. Our waiter was very nice and extreemly helpful. He had a really good knowledge of thier wine selection and interacted well with my DS. Food was very good, but people should know that "african" food can be spicey. We have good friends from Ethiopia and have had dinner with them, so we knew what to expect, but I overheard a few people comment on the spices used. The fun in this place is being able to try "new" foods without being totally commited. If you don't like a selection, you can go back and get something else. Kids selection was fine- mac n' cheese and chicken etc. Even my DS tried some different items and liked them. They had some sort of warm mushed squash stuff (I know reall technical term :teeth: ) that tasted like pumpkin pie, very good! Salad selection was small but fine. Lots of different vegetable and fruit items. We tried the watermelon rind and really liked it! Tried the african stew-- husband liked it, I didn't. They had a soup with corn and other vegetables that was good (sorry I don't remember the name). The nut crusted Salmon was very good. The chicken was good as well, but spicey. The wine was very good, I had the chardenay (sp?)-- there was only one listed, so that's what I had. Good deserts-- loved the zebra domes! Overall, we enjoyed this restaurant. The food was good and included items that we have never had before- we like to try new things. Due to it's openess, it can be a little noisy, but we have a 7 year old and so we're fine with that. If you don't like spicey food, or don't like to try new things, you could probably spend you money elsewhere. I'll go back. :)

Mara's - Ok. The selection was fine for us, but the wait for hot food items tended to be very long. Long lines. I did like the fish and chips. My son liked the pizza. The pre-made items were easy to find and made for a quick exit. They had masks for kids to color-- ds enjoyed that. We did the refillable mugs and used them quite a bit-- the only downside to them is that milk is not included in the free refills-- DS goes through a ton of milk.

Epcot- We like good fish and chips so we grabbed lunch at Harry Ramsden's-- cheaper and faster than eating inside the Rose and Crown- but just a good. Husband also likes the ale. Had amazing Baklava (sp?) at Morocco. It was at a little booth they had set up just outside of Morocco pavilion. They had different types to try as well. very good.

Coral Reef Restaurant-- we have had dinner there before and we like the atmosphere- sitting there looking at the fish tank. They had divers there and it was neat to interact with them. Also, it's fun to see how they use lights and movement to make you feel like you are really underwater. The lobster soup was very good. My husband and I both ordered the Talapia and it was outstanding! It included a crabcake that was also very good. Our waiter seemed a bit frazzled, a little slow to keep drinks filled, but he was fine. DS had chicken nuggets- no surpirse there. Overall , spendy but good food. It's also a nice break- a little more relaxing and quiet.

MK- We ate lunch at Cosmic Ray's. DH had the chicken wrap and said it was really good. It was a lot of food. DS and I had a hamburger because the chicken nugget portion was not open yet. Fine for a hamburger. We sat down where we could see Sunny. Okay for what it was. Lines moved fast.

Dinner at Crystal Palace. I'm always surprised by how much I like the atmosphere of this place. Had a great waitress! She was very good, even though the place was packed! Food was actually pretty good. I had the slamon and husband had prime. They ran out of the kids stuff and we had to wait for more, not too long though. Characters spent a lot of time with the kids here. You don't feel so rushed with them. Overall, great character dinner.

We stopped by the Tomorrowland Noodle Station on our second day at MK. The menu looked good and appealing to DH and myslef, but nothing that DS liked, so we didn't eat there. However, I don't think many people realize that this place is open yet, no lines, no crowds.

We loved the raspberry/lemonaid slushes that were available at many places. Very good, very refreshing, not too sweet. Highly recomend them.

AK- we ate at Restaurantosaurus for the Donald's character breakfast. We were disappionted. They seemed very unorganized. It took us over 40 minutes to be seated even with a PS. Once we were in, we ran through the buffet line 2x's without seeing a character. It took over 45 minutes before a character came into our area. DS was ready to leave before we even visited witht he characters. They had all 4 characters bunched up together, which made it a little chaotic. IMHO they should split them up and have 2 characters take one side of the restaurant while the ot her 2 take the other side, then switch. Food was lackluster, but I wasn't expecting fine cuisine. When the characters finally arrived, it was very rushed. Not a lot of interaction. Our waiter was very good and he played a few (lame) practical jokes that got my ds to giggle. All-in-all it took nearly 3 hours for breakfast, most of which we spent waiting, not eating. Good way to make sure you meet Donald, otherwise, don't bother.

MGM- Pizza Planet arcade- pizza wasn't bad, not much of a selection, but fine for what we wanted. Enjoyed sitting outside and looking around.

Mama Melrose- dinner and fantasmic package. We really liked this place. I was a little concerned because it was the cheapest option, but it was very good. I thought we got quite a bit for our money. The package came with salad, flat bread, entree, and desert. We ordered the 4 cheese flat bread and it was really good. I had a chicken pasta dish with artichokes and a cream sauce which was very good. My husband actually had steak and really liked it. DS had of course, cheese pizza, but he ate it all. Dessert was good, I had a chocalate cake with a filling inside. Good meal. Our waitress was fantastic! We really enjoyed her. We took our time and loved it. Never felt rushed and my DS actually got a quick nap in before we left. Also, loved the seats we had a fantasmic- I would do this again!

I think that's it. :earboy2:

Fantastic reviews! :) Thanks for taking the time to write them up, they're really wonderful. :flower: It sounds like you ate at a lot of great places.

Excellent reviews ~ Thanx for sharing.

Reviews, glad you enjoyed Mama Melrose's it is one of our favorite's that gets mixed reviews.Thank you for tip on slushes, sounds yummy.I enjoyed reading your post. :goodvibes :wave2:

It has been a couple of years since we ventured into Donald's breakfast, our previous 2 experiences were very similiar to yours. Our last 4 trips we have skipped it and grabbed a quick breakfast at the Tusker House 30 minutes and $20 versus Donald's 2.5 hours and $75.

Thanks for the reviews. We are going to Mama Melrose for the 1st time in June and glad when others have gone and say they like it. My question is did you use the dining plan and if you did, did you try it for the Fantasmic? :)

pirate: Thanks for the reviews. We are planning to try Mama Melrose and CP for the first time in October.

Thanks for the reviews. Boma was on our list to try this year. But I don't like spicey things, so I may have to revise that one.

:flower: sounds like you had a good time! Was there a special fantasmic menu at MM's or did you order from the regular menu? We are going there next month and my picky DD wants to know if there is pasta on the menu!

I don't do any kind of spicy food but I still find many things to eat at Boma. I would say to and try it just take small portions the first time around and go back for the non-spicy food.

Greta reviews - just out of interest what time was your ps at Donalds?

We just returned as well after a 10-day stay. Here's some of my eating high and lows.

Boma - After we'd finished our desserts, the chef waltzed by and dropped a deep fried oreo smothered with chocolate onto our table - and our neighbours as well. A neat treat. Luckily I still had space! Boma's was eerily quiet that night, April 13th.

Citricos - This was a real dining experience in a wonderful setting. The service was impeccable. We took 2 1/2 hours and the pacing of the meal was perfect. We were catching up with old friends so the timing for each course was just right. We had time to chat. The food was also very good. The funny bit is that the server gave us a detailed description of the items - including oven temperatures! I could see my party's eyes glazing over and after the server had left we all just looked at each other and asked, "What did he say about the capers?" It was pretty funny and helped us relax.

Chefs de France/Teppanyaki (for lunch) - Both very good in terms of food and service. At France I had the $14.95 set lunch, which included the tasty onion soup and a wonderful little ham and cheese sandwich, plus very creamy creme brule. At Japan, the chef was very entertaining and the food and pacing of the service perfect.

San Angel Inn/ Marrakesh (for dinner) - I'm wondering if it's fair to compare dinner to lunch. In contrast to our relaxing lunches at the other two EPCOT restaurants, dinner at these two places was a little more frenetic. At Mexico, we had a wonderful table near the water, and the service and food was fine, though a bit rushed, with our entrees nearly landing on top of our soup. I guess turn over is important for their profit margins. At Morocco, I enjoyed the setting and the belly dancer. The food was nice, but the service was a bit sporadic. Strangely, you have two servers, one who takes orders and the other who serves the food. It was harder to get the attention of the one taking orders. The deliverer actually stopped to chat with us. My Mom's meal came cold, but he gladly took it back for a re-heat and she enjoyed the lamb very much. I received the wrong dessert - but I probably needed some fruit anyway. After our entrees, server-one asked if we just wanted the check. We had to ask for dessert menus. Again, I guess patron turnover is important. Still, it was fine overall and my chicken was very tender.

Brown Derby (lunch) - Our first time in the park's 16-year history. We always plan to go but never seem to be around MGM for meal times. We're glad we went. Fine food and service and a cheerful waitress. We had the Disney Dining Experience card. We also told her it was our first visit. She smiled and said, "Maybe you'll come back more now that you have the little card." She actually meant it to be funny but at first I thought she was being sarcastic!

Tomorrowland Noodle Station - What a terrific addition. We have trouble finding a decent place to eat in the MK but our problems are solved. I had a wonderful Thai noodle bowl with tons of shrimp for under $8. And no potato chips or fries!

Kona Cafe (breaky) - Finally had the famous banana stuffed toast. Nice but sweet. The Kona is much nicer and airier since the rehab.

Those were our main meals. For all our smaller meals (Wolfgang Express, Boardwalk Bakery - nice sandwiches, Tangerine Cafe, Lotus Blossom Cafe, Flame Tree, etc) we split entrees because the portions are just too big for one person. As a result, it worked out pretty reasonable pricewise doing it this way.

Overall our eating experiences were excellent. We didn't have a bad one or anything close. But we do prefer having our big meals at lunch. It gives you energy for the day and I think it's more relaxing. Bon Appetite!

Thanks for the reviews! We seem to have a lot of the same opinions. ;)
