I just got back yesterday!!
I had read much about deteriorating park conditions and rude CMs, but the good news is THE MAGIC IS STILL THERE! All CMs I encountered were enthusiastic about their jobs -- several tried to talk me into moving there and working at WDW! I also saw much fix-up going on. FOUR guys were painting the same fence at EPCOT!
I left my non-Disney family at home and traveled with another girl. We stayed the week at our other timeshare near WDW and went to the Grand Floridian for one night mid-week using points. The GF has always been her dream, but after staying in a 2 bedroom luxury villa the GF seemed crowded!
My family is new to DVC, but our pattern seems to be to stay at our other timeshare for a week, sampling a DVC or WDW resort mid-week (not moving there, but just taking an over-night bag.) Our guide said he never heard of anyone staying at two places at the same time, but it makes sense to us! When our children have their own families, we will all vacation together at two places for the whole week.
Transportation was smooth also. This is my first trip without a car, and the resort bus and WDW buses were prompt and uncrowded. The only snag was the return trip from the GF on the monorail to the resort bus.....The doors on our car of the monorail wouldn't open! We were the only ones in that car, and pounded on the windows, but for a long time no one noticed. Just as it was reloaded and ready to take off again, a CM noticed our plight and somehow got the doors open. We were quite a sight running as fast as we could carrying our small suitcases and many purchases we made that day, and barely reached the bus on time!
Would I do it again the same way? YES!
