Just back from WL & POR - any ?'s

Hi! We just returned from an interesting week @ WDW - DD got very ill immediately, so I have all of the info on the walk-in clinics that Disney contracts with (big bucks, but quick, easy, & efficient). We managed to do all 4 parks, MVMCP 12/19, Dis. Quest, swimming in Dec. & mouse rentals. Had a woods view @ WL, but was upgraded without asking to a courtyard view - simply gorgeous decorations. Room had bunks & a nice view (#5061) - we could look sideways & see the EWP. Resort was very busy & loud (could hear every word of our neighbors conversations & the kids playing at the pool), so we switched to POR after 1 night for some peace & quiet so my DD could get well. POR was wonderful as always and the decorations were quite beautiful. We had a corner room in AB 25 (decent hike to main bldg.) #2548. We really enjoyed strolling around the resort grounds. The room was plenty big for me, DD (11), & my neice (13). Housekeeping was efficient & check-in took about 35 minutes. Any questions?

Welcome back, sorry that your DD got sick!

I've read here before that a courtyard view (at any hotel) can be rather noisy with people swimming at all hours of the night, even though it's not lifeguarded after a certain time. People will swim anyway!

Which resort did you prefer, PO or WL?

Yes please tell which one you would prefer. My family and I are going next year and were trying to decide which one to stay at. Was there alot of noise everywhere? I am a light sleeper and would definately be needing a more quieter setting.

We have stayed at WL three times with a woods view and it was very quite. Wonder if it was just the court yard? We had thought about switching to a court yard view but don't know if I want to if it is nosier?

We've stayed @ WL 5 times: 1 - wood's; 2 - courtyard; 2 - VWL/studio. Each time in the lodge, we could hear everything our neighbors said, regardless of view. VWL was totally quiet & I prefer it (we rented points from this board) if staying @ WL. Personally overall I prefer POR. Why? The food court, boat to DD (we love Dis Quest), the # of pools, the laid back, peaceful atmosphere, and the price w/ an AP discount. I do love WL, but POR is my absolute favorite of all the resorts ( we've stayed everywhere but CR, All Stars, FW, & CBR). Just my opinion. We'll be returning at the end of January to POR for 4 nights to make up for this trip - I camr home with an ear & sinus infection (yuck!). Happy Holidays everyone, Tracey

at POR was the buses crowded when you got on them and when you came home was they crowded

The buses were full, but not packed each morning and were about the same each evening. The only bus problem we had was the MVMCP on 12/19 - it took 3 buses to get all of the people at the South Depot on!

I was at POR from Dec 6-13, 2002. I stayed in Magnolia Terrace. It was very quiet. I was on the third floor, so no one above me. I knew the Pop Warner kids would be there so I had requested to be in an area that was not close to them. I was accomodated very nicely. Also, my room seemed to have been newly renovated. Everything was very very clean and a new AC unit was installed. Much better than the year before with an old AC unit that was noisy.

I highly recommend this property. The grounds are gorgeous. I love renting a bike and ride around right into the French Quarter. I love the boat to DTD. I also got a terrific rate with the discount code.

PO Riverside is our favorite resort, also. We returned recently from two stays there--one in Magnolia Bend (Oak Manor) and one in Alligator Bayou.

We'll be back for my birthday in May!

We have stayed at both these resorts and love them equally, for different reasons. We do get a woodsview room and will not take a courtyard for this very reason. Our woodsview room was super quiet, never a peep heard ! Magnolia Terrace, 3rd floor is very quiet too. The food court at POR wins, hands down. The ambience of WL in Dec., the balcony, the EWP, and the boat to MK, and the bunkbeds for the kids all give WL an edge. If you want quiet, make sure that is in your request. That has always been granted at any resort for us !

I too like the WL better. We've only had woods view at WL but we couldn't hear anything. We also loved the boat ride to MK,CR(for the arcade and Chef Mickeys) Hoop de doo, and the view from the beach. We have two ds's and they love the bunk beds! All that being said, we do like PO. It is very nice but just not up to the level of WL (IMHO) I guess you just have to look at what's most important to you and make your decision based on that.

We are big POR fans, too. Even though we have recently joined DVC with BCV as our home resort, I suspect that we will still have an occasional stay at POR due to our fondness for the resort.

Sorry to hear about your DD's illness. On one of our last trips my middle child got sick the night before we were to make the trip home. He had "stomach symptoms" (I'll leave it at that ) which made for a long trip back to NC the next day. (We were driving.)

Just for future reference in case its needed (and I hope its not), can you provide a few details on your experience with the clinic? Which one did you go to? Did you have your own car, or did you have to take a cab? What was your opinion of the clinic with regards to service, wait time, etc.? And if you DD needed medication, did you get it from the clinic, or did you have to find a nearby pharmacy? A lot of questions, I know...
