Just back from the Poly. We were there from 10/19 to 10/24. We LOVED it! I had requested Samoa, but we ended up with Rarotonga, room 2814 looking out at the quiet pool. At first I was sad we ended up in a 2nd floor room, no balcony or patio, but later decided it was better we didn't have either. My kids are 8, 5 and 2 and I wouldn't have wanted to try and keep the 2 yearold off the balcony all the time. We really loved this location. Right next to the GCH (which was convenient for check-out during the hurricane! ;) ). The walk to the TTC was only about 5 or 10 minutes.

We ate at Ohana our first night and at Captain Cooks once for lunch. Never made it to Kona though.

My kids LOVED the pool, especially DD2. The zero entry is great. She was so happy she could just walk in and not have anyone have to hold her all the time. She also loved the little fountain area off to the side of the pool. We spent alot of time in there! DD8 really liked that she could touch pretty much everywhere in the pool and there was no "deep end".

I am definitely spoiled now and I don't know if I could ever stay off the monorail line! :) Well maybe when the kids are older and more into Epcot and MGM, but for now, I think it's the Poly for us!! :teeth:

Any questions, just ask!!

Glad you had a great trip!! Would love to hear more. We were hoping to stay at AK next year but with all the great reviews we having been reading about the Poly, we are seriously considering changing our plans. :rotfl:

My feelings exactly...once you go Poly, you never go back..

Glad you enjoyed your trip! Do you know what longhouses they are working on now?

Glad you enjoyed your first Polynesian vacation. :sunny: Anything going on around the resort?

Our first trip to WDW was at AKL and in my opinion this resort is fabulous, the setting, the views that wonderful smell in the lobby BUT it is so far from the MK it just makes for an exhausting trip when you have little kids that want to mainly be at the MK. Our Poly vacation was so relaxing, I love the hammocks on the beach aahhh..I could so use a nap in one right now! OP I am curious when you checked in and didn't get your request did they tell you there were no rooms available in Samoa? Did you check in early or late? When we went in May they originally gave us 2nd floor Samoa but I asked if there was anyway to get a first floor(my original request) and the CM checked and said yes but the room wasn't ready..no problem we will wait. The location was so wonderful I just need to prepare myself I might not get as lucky this May---

I didn't see any work going on with the other Longhouses, but we did not venture far from our own and the pool area. We did walk to the TTC a couple times, so passed by Tokelau and Rapanui, but didn't notice any work at all.

As far as not getting Samoa, we didn't check in until 7:30 PM. Our plane had been delayed (mechanical) and we had ressies at Ohana at 7:30 which we were late for (although I did call on the way to the resort, so they did know we were coming). Then I stood in line for almost 20 mintues because there were only 2 people working and the machine that prints the hotel keys broke down or something. By the time I got up to the counter, DH had already checked in for dinner and they wanted to seat us, the kids were starving and ornery and I had just remembered that we had milk and yogurt sitting outside in the 85 degree heat on our bellservices cart!! :rotfl: So, I was not in the frame of mind to ask about Samoa :teeth: (didn't even think about it actually!!). I know it was pretty full and there were alot of golfers staying there for the Funai Classic. DH is a big golfer and kept pointing them out to me throughout the week. So, I'm sure by the time we got there alot of rooms were already filled.

But, it worked out fine I think. After being at the pool every day we wondered if maybe Samoa would have been too noisy, especially mid-day for naps.

Glad you had agreat trip! I always wanted to go during the Funi classic - but wondered if it was too crowded. We will be at Poly this friday for 4 nights then 5 nights at BWI !! MNNSHP then Food & Wine Fest. I can't sleep already thinking about it!!!!!!!!!!

We are going to Poly in July! I can't wait! :rotfl: I am so happy to hear such wonderful things! I'm glad you had a great trip!

I just got back yesterday and on Monday night I took a spin on my mothers ECV... went around the entire resort... saw absolutely NO evidence of any of the bldgs being worked on (and that was what I was looking for). I was also taking a look in open rooms to see if I could figure out which bldgs had been redone already. We were in Tokelau, and from what I understand, those rooms have NOT been done, correct? It's really too bad, I like the decor in that bldg!

Hi, decker96!

We were there 10/19-24, too! We were in Tokelau and loved that location. The kids (10, 14, and 16) actually spent more time in the quiet pool than the volcano pool. The grounds are absolutely beautiful! We tried all three restaurants, too. I would stay there again, too, except we are on a quest to stay at all the WDW resorts.

How true!! A lot of non Disney people hear the price of the Poly and think you would have to crazy to stay there. I admit it's expensive but a Disney vacation isn't complete without staying there, at least to me. My favorite parts of the Polynesian is when I'm in the Volcano pool the first day with my kids, realizing that I have an entire week there. Also when I can see the castle when I'm at the top of the Volcanno waiting to go down the slide, that's pretty cool as well. Now you have me day dreaming that I'm sitting on the balcony of my Samoa room 3603 to 3609 (take your pick) drinking my Kona coffee and enjoying my morning. Then of course going to Kona for my Tonga Toast!!!! WOW, I just realized, I NEED A VACATION!! :rotfl:

Gotta love MEA, don't you!! :teeth: I personally am on a quest to stay at all resorts also, but DH doesn't really agree at this point!! He's all for the Poly as long as we have younger kids and want to go back to the resort mid-day to nap/swim. Since our youngest is only 2, that gives us a few more years there!! :) And, heck I really can't argue with him since he is usually Mr. Tightwad!! :rotfl:

I'm looking forward to this, too. We're leaning toward a Poly trip this January and those descriptions are getting me closer to booking :cloud9: :cheer2:
