Well, my 7 year journey has finally come to an end. I didn't go to the dentist for almost 11 years.(I'm terrified) Then I had a painful tooth and went back. Found out that I had such a nasty infection that had I let it go much longer it would have killed me, plus I had many cavities etc... but just today (7 years after I started going again) the last one was filled. Actually the last 3 and they had to fix something with another one. 4 long hours at the dentist, but I'm caught up!!!! Yeah!!! And I have learned my lesson. I will be visiting my dentist every 6 months.

But, ohhhhh my poor mouth is so sore. :sad1:

Yup, sometimes you gotta learn the hard way.

I didn't go to the dentist for 4 years because of my fear also. Surprisingly, I had only 1 cavity but it hurt so much after the cleaning, my mouth was sore for a good week. The dentist explained it to me like this. It's like cleaning your bathtub. If you clean it regularly, it's fairly easy to maintain. But if you leave that ring-around-the-bathtub for a long time, you have to really work to get it clean again. The same thing goes for your mouth.

I've been going every 6 months now. I don't want to feel that pain again

Hope you feel better soon

I'm so bad, I haven't gone in over 5 years. I just know something is wrong with my gums. Cavities i'm not so worried about, up until I stopped going, I had never had a cavity. But my gums are such a funky color around the bottoms of my teeth, i'm worried. I have it in my head if I go, they are gonna have to pull out all my teeth or something. I have dreams often that my teeth start falling out. I'm so afraid to go!!!

Me too. Not that bad (maybe 5 years, no pain.) but now 4 or is it 5 root cannels later, and number of cavities and other no fun stuff. I still have one that the Doc says needs a root cannel, but I am just not up to if. I need a break inbetween.

I still hate going to the denist, but I won't put it off so much any more.

anewvance, OMG, I have had the same nightmare!

Anyway hugs and sympathy to you. You are not the only dumb person to do that. :teeth:

I know what you mean, we didn't have insurance to go to the dentist when we were young but when I started work and got benefits I went. Well after all the fixing I go every 6 months and I tell the doctor I really only half my teeth because I have some pretty big fillings. I make my kids go for sure so they don't end up like me.

You really should watch that your gums.Gum disease can affect your heart I have been told.

I'm going friday to finally deal with a badly infected broken tooth to the oral surgeon to have it removed. I believe it is responsible for some serious stomach problems I'm having. I'm scared to death and now I'm going to have to sign on for a long term plan to get everything fixed also. And do the cost I'll probably have to spread things out over some time.
