I stayed five nights in a studio at OKW (Room 4414) and two nights at Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal.

The room at OKW was fine except for a few minor problems (saw a couple bugs, the iron did not work, no telephone book). All of my complaints were quickly remedied by Housekeeping. I did have a big problem with the noise from the road. Room 4414 is on a corner so I could hear the cars and busses as they approached the circle and then as they left the area. By the end of my stay I kinda got used to the noise, but made a mental note not to stay there again unless there was no other room available. My room was ready pretty early (1:30 p.m.), but because of the heat, I picked up a meal at Good's and remained in my room for most of the day.

I had a bay-view room at PBH and it was heavenly! The beds are to die for. Anything you could think of having in a hotel room was in this room. I signed up to be a Loew's First member before I left home which included an upgrade (that's how I got the bay-view room). I also received a paper daily and a welcome gift of a fruit plate free. For my next trip in July, I'm going to try out the Royal Pacific Resort at Universal for a couple of days.

All in all, I had a good time, except for the heat. It felt like it was the middle of summer!

Thanks for the info, I'm splitting OKW and PBH next month and looking forward to trying out the Universal hotels.

I have heard from family that Portofino is amazing. Also have heard similar comments about OKW Building #44. Passporter mentions it as having "road noise."

I have posted about this before, but for travel you can't beat a "white noise machine." We have an inexpensive one that makes rain, ocean, heartbeat, forest, etc. I turn the ocean on when we travel and the world could end and I wouldn't realize! These machines drown out road noise, hallway noise, dh snoring, etc. We don't leave home without ours!

Glad you had a good trip!

Colleen - I can't live without my noise machine on vacation and even here at home. When things get loud outside, you can turn it up really loud. Mine is small enough to pack, so it *always* goes in the suitcase before zipping it up!
