My husband and I came home Saturday from a 6 day trip to SSR and all I can is wow! We really enjoyed ourselves. It seems this property gets such mixed reviews on the DIS, I wasn't sure what to expect but from the moment we stepped off the DME bus, I knew I had found my "home away from home". Our actual home resort is HH and we love it there. I never thought I'd love any other resort more than HH but boy did SSR prove me wrong. The decor of the rooms (we had a 2 bedroom villa) was just lovely and the grounds, despite the construction are lovely too.

Bus service was good. There were only 2 times we waited more than twenty minutes for a bus and I used the courtesy phone and a bus was dispatched right away.

We enjoyed several quick meals at Artist Palette and made good use of the dining plan's snack credits thanks to tips from the DIS.

We spent our last day before we were picked up by DME at the pool sipping fruity drinks. A friend of mine and her husband joined us for the week and they spent most of our last day enjoying the spa. Speaking of which, I had my first ever pedicure and just love how my feet look! I will definitely be booking a spa treatment next year.

We are already planning next year's trip (back to SSR of course) and even though we gave some serious consideration to selling our DVC for various reasons, this trip has convinced us not to sell. My husband was firm on selling but after a few days at this beautiful resort, he too had a change fo heart. He is not the biggest Disney fan and he repeatedly said how much he can't wait to come back to SSR. When I asked him what he liked most, he said how peaceful it was and how it's Disney but not too Disney.

I am hoping that one day we can even add on points at SSR. If anyone has any questions, I would be more than happy to answer them.

Thats a great report so glad your family liked SSR , well be back next May but are heading to your home resort next HHI. :cool1:

Lisa...sounds like a great trip! And how nice that you've found a place that both you and your DH can connect to so well. :thumbsup2

I've never heard of a courtesy phone for busses...is it located right at the bus stop? I like the idea but imagine that would be one busy number if installed at every resort! ;)

I'm glad you and DH found a good reason to hang on to those DVC points. Somehow, I don't think you'll regret it! :)

I am so thrilled to hear that you loved SSR. Even thoguh that puts you in the minority of DVC'ers it is still nice to know you would book that enormous resort by choice.

Well, that is one down 50,000 to go.

Thanks again for the greta report on SSR. :thumbsup2

Wow, you must get really bored. I do hope you have other things better in life to do besides create numerous user names and :stir:
And if this isn't one of your alter personalities then I apologize.

OP -
Glad you had a great trip. That is what I like about SSR too, its at Disney and near the parks but it isn't on top of the parks. I guess that makes 2 of us out of the 50,000 that would book there by choice :teeth:

Make that three of us. :goodvibes

To the OP. Thanks for the report. I couldn't agree more. Glad you had fun. I really want to try HH. It sounds like my kind of resort! Maybe next time!

Thanks everyone for the nice feedback. I took some wonderful pictures and really enjoyed walking the grounds. We stayed in the Springs section but Congress Park and the even the Paddock section isn't all that far from the main building and main pool. I bet when the construction is finished the resort will be even more beautiful!

Granny - I thought I read somewhere here on the DIS that some resorts have phones. That is what made me look for a phone at the Springs stop when we had waited 45 minutes for a Downtown Disney bus. I'm not sure they all have them but it did come in handy the two times we needed assistance.

I am jealous of all those who have trips to SSR coming up soon. I can't wait until the 7 month window to book our trip for next year!!

Hi Lisa/ZerasPride!

Although I've lived in upstate NY for quite a while now, I am and always will be a Clevelander!

Your positive report was well-timed, since my wife and I were able to get last-minute AP rates for 3 nights in a Studio at SSR starting Friday (we're hoping they can extend us for the last 2). Thanks for getting us worked up into a frenzy!!!

We would LOVE to see some of your pictures before we leave! If you can't (or don't have the time) to post them, could you possible e-mail me a few? We'd be most appreciative!!!

I just PMed you with my e-mail address.

Yours, Ronald Duck

You know what? I was just thinking the same thing!! I had an AWESOME Pedicure at SSR on June 3rd with my best friend and my feet still look pretty! LOL!! That was my 2nd visit and both visits were extremely positive.
I will definitely be returning next trip.

Thank you so much for the great report!! We just returned last week and I can't wait to return to SSR! So make that 4! :thumbsup2

I'm glad you had such a nice time. We took the boat from OKW to DTD and I think that the view of SSR from DTD is stunning and it is a gorgeous resort.

I am so happy to see this post! We are leaving in Oct. to take our first trip "home" and I CANNOT wait! It is so nice to see other people enjoying it like we will. I also love the fact that you are not on top of everything and that it is not so Disney. Believe me, I love Disney, but I also love to relax and don't feel the need to be smothered but the mouse either. :goodvibes

Did you have a dedicated 2 BR or a lock off?

Thanks for the report!

Make that 5! :woohoo:

I love SSR and really don't feel the need to stay anywhere else. I had a DTD viw of the Marketplace in December and it was amazing! Just walking around it was so relaxing and it was nice being able to unwind from the parks.

Glad you had a great time OP! :sunny:

Great report, there are a lot of DVCERS who love SSR  and IM glad to have them as neighbors.

Our whole family loves SSR. Our grown son and his wife love the resort also. It gives you the choice of being at Disney or just kicking back and relaxing. We love it there. The CMs are great also. We are headed there this coming Sunday for a few days. Meeting our kids and grandkids there and we can't wait. I can't think of anything we don't like about this resort. It is big, but that doesn't bother us. Thanks cobbler for the confirmation that the post from "antidoc" is another post from the "antiSSR" posters. It was so pleasant when they weren't posting their SSR Bashing posts.

SSR Family and we love it!

Well SSR converted my BIL to a Disney lover! We have taken them with us numerous times, treating them to a 1 BR at BWV and he couldn't wait to go home. I was dismayed, my evil plan to convert him just wasn't working. As a last ditch effort I tried SSR last time (which I of course love) and it worked! Not only did he have the time of his life they bought 200 points! This from a guy who used to say the best thing about Disney was the exit sign. Now he calls me all the time to help them in planning, I've created a DVC monster!

(Edited to add they will ONLY stay at SSR, he loves it that much)

Thanks for the great report, its refreshing to read positive feedback about a resort I love. personally I don't understand all the bad reviews on this board. The resort is well done and relaxing as can be, even our young boys find this place fun :confused3

are SSR owners doomed to be the poor step children of the DVC? Aren't we all part of the Disney Family?

Thanks for the positive report - we gladly jump on the bandwagon of loving SSR. We have had two trips "home" (we just got back two weeks ago) and have another planned in December. The resort is so relaxing and quiet. We just love walking to DTD to do some shopping, eat, or catch a bus to another resort - it's all so convenient. Our DS's love being close to Disney Quest and the Virgin Music Store. What's not to love???? :thumbsup2

Where's my happy place??? At SSR! :mickeyjum :donald: :goofy: :tigger:

or we can make it 6 if we count my dh. Thank you so much for the nice report - it's good to hear. We haven't actually stayed there yet - 7 days, 7 hours to go til we do - yay! But when we took the tour last year we loved the laid back feel, and the nice decor, it just feels "comfortable" I guess is a good word for it. Can't wait to be there!
