I just wanted to post some thoughts on our recent (and first) stay at WDW!

We stayed CL at WL and Poly.

Wilderness Lodge

Yes, the Christmas decorations are every bit as gorgeous as everyone says! We received an extremely warm welcome from the CL crew and immediately felt like we were home. They really made my son feel special because this was his birthday trip. The grounds were immaculate, theming was beautiful and the boat to MK was a great way to start the day! The s'mores on the beach at night was a great touch, and DH and DS really enjoyed the pool. I would say that the staff here was really top notch and went above and beyond to make sure we were having a pleasant stay. The rooms were a little old school, but in excellent repair. We didn't have a very good view, but didn't know to ask for one - there's always next time!

The CL offerings were fresh and tasty, and being able to have a glass of wine and cheese plate overlooking the giant Christmas tree was a nightly treat for us. CL remembered my son's name, made some movie recommendations and when they overheard me asking DH about bandaids, ran out to grab some for me without me even asking. We really felt like we got the royal treatment here!

We also had pillow animals each day, and mousekeeping kept our room immaculate.

I don't have a negative thing to say about WL, I would recommend it and we look forward to going back there one day.

Polynesian

We stayed CL at the Polynesian. The CM who checked us in seemed bored and didn't discuss any of the amenities with us. Later, we found out all of the kids were supposed to get little beach buckets and stickers at checkin, but DS never received anything, nor did they acknowledge his birthday with any sort of greeting or button. No need for fireworks, but a Happy Birthday would have been appreciated. All of the CMs in CL looked bored and unfriendly.

Our room had wires coming out of the walls and a toilet that didn't flush properly. It either didn't flush, or it sprayed water. We had paint chipping off the walls and the room just felt shabby. After complaining twice with no resolution or apology we just used it as an opportunity to stay out of our room, and spend more time at the parks. :cool2:

The doors to the entrance out to the monorail were broken on more than one occasion, and the elevator when you walked into CL was broken for two days with the door just hanging off of it at an odd angle. It was actually a pretty creepy sight, and quite lovely to see when you're supposed to be staying at a decent hotel.

The pool was nice as were the lifeguards and we loved the shops and restaurant selection here. The CL lounge had a nice staff who kept things replenished, and I liked how you could go here any time of day for a piece of fruit or a beverage, even if it wasn't officially open at one of their designated snack times.

We did not get any pillow animals and mousekeeping was very mediocre. Twice they left dirty dishes in our room and they were not great with the cleaning.

I had high hopes for the Poly, but WL won this round.

Until next time... :)

Thanks for your review. The Poly and WL are two of our favorite resorts, with the WL winning out for us during the holidays. The lobby is just gorgeous all decorated for Christmas. Glad you had a great trip :).

Sorry your stay at Poly was less then magical. For the prices they ask, you have a right to expect better. I'd write to Guest services, if they don't hear any different, they'll just think this is o.k.

Wow!! That Poly review is really interesting. We have stayed at both WL and Poly and had wonderful experiences at both. Our Poly stay was in November of 09 however, so maybe they have had some CM turnover, but every CM we ran into was very cordial and always had an "Aloha" for us. Now we did have an issue with a loud neightbor that I called down to the front desk about on several occasions, but overall our experience was good. I guess you can get a clunker every now and then anywhere. I hope this was an isolated incident.

We've stayed at both resorts and love them. Sorry you had the experience you did at the Poly. It is my favorite. For the price of that resort, you should receive better service/accomodations.

Thanks for the review - it's always nice to hear others' experiences. We had the opposite experience - wonderful at Poly and mediocre at WL. We love the Poly. For the price you pay at the Poly, you were right to expect better and I agree with the pp who said you should contact guest services. They should be aware of those issues!

What longhouse did you stay in at the Poly?? Just curious. We were there in June 2008 and stayed in Rapa Nui. We had a great experience...sorry to hear yours was less than magical. We have never stayed at WL because we have 5 in our family. We have eaten there, though, and love the property. Thank you for sharing your review!

Thanks for the review - we have visited both resorts before but not stayed at either. For our next trip we hope to have a couple of days CL at one of the deluxes so it is interesting to read of your experiences.

Enjoyed reading your reviews of WL and Poly. We stayed at the Poly CL, theme park view and while I thought the room was wonderful especially the view and a lot of storage space, I was not impressed with the actual CL. I thought the hallway was very drab and actually a little depressing.

I can't remember any specific CM's at club level standing out and the people who sit at the desks at the entrance to the Hawaii bldg. never acknowledged us when coming or going.

There was a fantastic CM who I spoke to on the phone and who also came to our room to locate the channel that the football playoffs were on. We were there in January.

The Poly certainly has a charm all its own but I think its time to do something regarding the hallways in those longhouses. Although, I'm sure I would stay there again given the opportunity.

We did the exact same trip as you and also just returned home on 12/26! What were the dates you were at each resort??

It's funny, we had the exact OPPOSITE experience as you! Great room, towel animals every day, enthusiastic and warm CM's at the Poly. Shabby room, no towel animals, slightly bored and distant CM's at the WL. We even had a toilet that didn't flush properly at the WL!! :scared1:

Glad at least half of our experiences were fantastic!!

I'm so bad about logging on regularly these days, but wanted to thank everyone for taking the time to review my review. :) I am definitely going to contact WDW about my experience, just so they're aware.

Can't wait to get back to the World!

What a great review; thank you! It's funny, because last June, we decided to stay CL at the Poly, our first CL ever. Well, after two days of less than mediocre service, we switched to our no fail favorite, Beach Club. I was sooo glad.

The main thing that stuck out about your review was the cm's acting "bored". That's exactly what we thought, and from the minute we checked in, we felt as if we were bothering them. :confused3 The run down condition of the hotel was another story, but I digress....want to add that we've stayed at the Poly before and LOVED it, so figured that CL would be top notch.

Anyway, bottom line, though I can't remember right now, three cm in particular in the BC lounge were out of this world. We loved them, the kids loved them, and we always left there w/a perm-grin. :-)

We have not stayed at the WL since 1995 (when we met Vanna White, lol), but would love to again sometime!!

Thanks for the review.
We just booked our trip in March at the WL.
We are extremely excited!

Okay so I know I'm not alone about the un-enthused CMs at Poly CL. :sad2:

I would love to hear your thoughts in BC CL, we're headed there in 11 days. I'm so excited to hear you had a great experience there!

Love that you met Vanna at the WL, that must have been so cool!

BTW, congrats on your bundle to be. :)
