We just returned last night from a weeklong trip to SOG. We had a FANTASTIC time, the new addition is beautiful. I asked to be in a room overlooking the new courtyard (what you see on the webcam), and they switched us to rooms 5109 & 5110. These were perfect, top floor, great view to sit out on the balcony & enjoy any time of the day. Much quieter than the pool view we had previously. We were able to get a tour of the new junior suite offered on each floor (5115 on the 5th floor), it was wonderful! The buffet at the Garden grill was delicious, different themes each night. Prime rib night, Tex Mex, Oriental, Seafood. Delicious! Mangino's is supposed to be opening sometime in May, looks beautiful. Evergreens is still good, can't beat those onion rings! They are finishing up some things, but we fully enjoyed our stay & plan on going back soon. Let me know if you have any questions, I'll try to answer them for you. I am lost this morning....wish I was still at the World :( . Time to start planning another trip! :teeth:

Thanks for the report! We are really looking forward to our Shades of Green stay. Glad to hear you had a good time. May I ask a couple of questions?

How was the soundproofing? Could you hear noise from other rooms? (I ask not because noise bothers me but because I worry about my two little boys bothering others sometimes) :)

Did you walk to the Poly to catch the monorail? If so, how was the walk? From other reports it seems unclear as to whether or not this is a useful thing to do; what's your opinion? Would it add too much walking to the day for a family with two little ones?

Thanks again.

The soundproofing in the new section is fantastic....we couldn't hear anything from the rooms next door, and 2 little ones were to the room right of us. The walk to the Poly was great, took about 10 minutes & the kids enjoyed it. If you don't want to walk it, you can hop on Bus A at the SOG lobby entrance and it takes you to the TTC....then you can hop on the monorail from there. You will love the hotel! I hope you have a great trip!

Thanks for posting! We, too, are looking forward to our upcoming stay at Shades of Green.

I do have a question though! I've heard that there is now a small fridge in every room. How are they? About how much could we fit in there?

The fridge was dorm sized, held approx. 7 waters and 6 pops easily. We had some fruit on top of the pops. Be careful with the temp though, my hubby nearly froze everything the first day!

Thanks for the quick answers to our questions! :)

I've heard that the new AAFES Shoppette is really small. Just wondering how small??? The one they had before remodeling was tiny! Is this one bigger than the old one or smaller?? Do they have much selection of merchandise??
THanks

The current AAFS Shop is actually temporary. They are building a larger location off the main lobby corridor near the Guest Services Desk. It looks to be a pretty good size.

I read that they were going to have a cafe type deal where you could buy something in early AM before doing EMH. It was to open around 6AM. Did you see anything like that? Also do you remember how early the buses started in Am? Lastly, any mention of when room service will start up again? Thanks again for your posts and for answering our questions.

Theresa:) :sunny:

The new "Express Cafe" was still being built when I was there during Easter. It will be down one level at the new bus area. The TTC bus started at 7:30 am. I am not sure how early the AK, MGM & TL/BB bus started. You can always walk down the hill to the Polynesian and catch the monorail there. I'm not sure about the room service, but you can order takeout at Evergreen's.

Looks like I will need to walk to the Poly or TTC to make our 0740 PS for Chef Mickeys! Anyone know how much time to allot to get to the Contemporary if we walk to the TTC? Also, which is closer, the TTC or Poly monorail? I don't want to be late for our ressies!

If you leave SOG at 7:00 am and get the monorail at the Poly, you should have no trouble getting to Contemporary in time for your PS.

Can SOG eligible guests not staying there eat at the buffet? Weird question, I know, but our kids love buffets and we're not staying at SOG this time.

Thanks,
Julie

If you are eligible to use the facilities, ie pick up tickets at the SoG office. I think you would be eligible to use the restaurant facilities. The breakfast buffet is $7.50 for adults and less for kids. As long as you have an ID card I don't think there would be a problem.
