Just back from Port Orleans-Riverside!!

We stayed at Universal/Hard Rock first and then 3 nights at POR...

We stayed in Building 15 ...not bad location...14 would be perfect...loved the playground, pool and all the amenties...food court food was very good!!

Went to Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom...very crowded...

Ate at Fort Wilderness-Trails End buffet good but too long to get too!! Beach Club-Cape May for dinner the best but no more buckets for the seafood or big yales of beer...and the main restaurant at POR very good...

WE just got back, too! We were in building 17, which was neither the most nor the least conveninet. It was next to a quiet pool and laundry, which had its advantages, too. Glad to hear you liked the resort. Our family loved it and would highly recommend it.

I do prefer the AB section over the Mansions...and first floor was great...loved the fast food court...
wish the quiet pool had a whirlpool!

ellie&mattys mom, I'm just curious as to why you prefer the AB over the mansions. I have no experience with this resort but the pictures look beautiful and we decided to try it this year. I requested the mansions when I made my ressies because I liked the look of the rooms better. Did I make a mistake?

Dawn....AB section is very close...Building 14 is the closest building to the Food Court....The mansions are the furthest away...

If you had a map of the resort then that would explain it better..

They do look beautiful...but they are just so far away...

I just got back from one night at the POR before moving to the Grand Floridian.... I love the look and feeling of the mansions and requested to stay there. We were in Oak Manor and had a fantastic view of the river. I thought we were pretty close to the main pool and building. The main building was directly across the river and the bridge to get over to the main building was pretty close and so was the one that went over to the main pool. I loved the walk it was soo beautiful. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. We also got to park fairly close to our building but a little bit aways from our room as we had a waterview. I don't really like the look of the AB section and since I don't have any children I really don't mind the walk although it really wasn't very far from Oak Manor in my opinion. I think that was actually a perfect location.. Halfway to the main pool and half way to the main building and very beautiful at the same time. I don't think you made a mistake by your choice but it is all a matter of what you are looking for. I know you will love your stay there no matter what because it is such a beautiful resort. I was only there for one night like I said but we went to the pool par for a drink while we strolled along the river and there was a sign at te bar about the campfires. It looked really cool but they didn't have the night we were there.. it was only on select nights... I hope this helps!!!

mandasbutterfly , thanks. I can't wait to get there. I have so much longer to wait. When I made my ressie, I just requested non smoking in the mansions. Should I try to request Oak Manor? When and how should I do this?

Uh oh! I just found another thread that said Oak Manor is smoking. Definitely don't want that. What other building would be convenient that's non smoking? They told me I have to have a waterview, as that's all that was left.

I'm so glad to read these nice things about POR, as I'm going to be arriving there the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I'll be getting back on Dec. 6th or thereabouts, and hope to do the campfire thing if it's offered, so if anyone has questions, PM me after Dec. 7th and I'll tell ya what I know!

When I checked into Oak Manor they said that the room was no smoking and I didn't smell anything at all.. I didn't see anyone smoking at leas not on the side I was on... Maybe the building is split and one side is smoking and one side is not? I am not really sure but I know they said it was No smoking and I didn't smell a thing. There is a building on each side of Oak Manor and I think they would be just as convenient. I don't have the map with me but I will check when I get home and will let you know the names and maybe you could call to see if they are smoking or not if you don't feel comfortable with Oak Manor. I really really enjoyed Oak Manor's waterview room! It was wonderful and no smell.

We are also non-smokers and stayed at Magnolia Bend (mansions section). We had a great view of the river and there was a gazebo in the courtyard outside of our room. The quiet pool and laundry facilities were close by. I would assume that Magnolia Bend would qualify as a water view. Don't worry about the walk--it is not very far at all and so beautiful and peaceful! We're from Missouri so the Tom and Huck theming of Alligator Bayou was just too close to home!! LOL! You'll love this resort no matter where you stay! Have fun!!

We just returned a few weeks ago from POR. There were five of us and we stayed in the AB section of the resort with a water-view room facing the river (Bldg 27). We really had no choice, because a family of five can only stay in the AB section, and not the mansions. Though the walk to the lobby was a little long, which normally I don't really care, the bus stop was reasonably close by and walking the beautiful grounds was very peaceful and relaxing. I would definitely recommend this resort and AB section with all its rustic charm.

Could anyone tell me which buildings in AB have a whirlpool close to them? I have difficulty walking due to two recent surgeries but do love a whilrpool in the evening. Thanks so much....

The only whirlpool I know is on Ol man island..not sure which Mansions buildings...maybe someone else can help

The only whirlpool is at Ole Man Island. The quiet pools do not have one by them.
