I just posted this in the POR thread, but since not everyone follows it, I thought I would repost our experience for those considering a trip there. I have added a couple of things....

We just got back from 7 nights at POR! 2/15 to 2/22

We were in a refurbed room...8001 in the Arcadia building....first floor facing the back (away from the river) in front of a fountain.

I called back in January after it was known that their was a room issue. I was transferred to the resort check in desk and a note was made on my account. We check in about 12pm and was told what building, but not the exact room. We gave them a our # and they sent us a text about a half hour later with the room number.

At that time, we were in the food court having lunch. the kids were soo excited to see the room, so we sent them off with their room keys to find it. they love that kind of stuff. We'll a few minutes later, we got a call from them! They were greeted by a snake on the path!!!! We never did see another one!

The room itself was OK. Yes it was newly refurbed and had queen beds. When I said to my husband, I'm so glad we got a new room. He laughed and said "that is new room!" The quality of the linens and towels are poor...no high thread counts here! My ds12 commented on the scratchy sheets! Rooms at a Holiday inn express or Hampton Inn have nicer things. I was glad it was new and clean! I wish Disney would have done away with the ugly, old fashioned bed spreads!!!!

Mousekeeping was great. We had towel art one day out of the seven.

We were not in the room much anyway!

The resort itself is beautiful. the main pool area was hectic at times, but fun.

the food court had lots of choices, but crowded. By 8am it became a zoo in there. Some days we just grabbed coffee and went to the bus. My ds10 loved the pasta station. The portions are huge! The burgers were ok...not cooked to order...just under heat lamps. The kids loved the bakery section and ate lots of chocolate chip cookies!!! The employees were very helpful with making sure you got everything included with the dining plan. They will also stamp your reciept so that you can pick your dessert after the meal if you want.

Bob in the lounge was sooo much fun. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. We caught parts of the act on 3 different nights. think fun renditions of Piano man, sweet caroline, etc.

On Saturday night, we had ADR's at Sanaa. The kids were tired and didn't want to go. We took them to the food court for dinner. then, they went off to play in the arcade. My husband and I had dinner at Boatwrights. It was one of our best meals! I had the prime rib and he had beef tenderloin....both were great! (our worst meal was at le chefs de france!) We were so glad we went there!

We also did a carriage ride one night and it was nice. The lady was very talkative and loved her horse. We had Drummer....gorgeous horse, just a little slow! That is ok because our ride was a little longer than it should have been!

The buses were ok, we didn't have to wait too long. We tried to use the North depot as much as possible. The South in the morning was very hectic.
throughout the week, we rarely had a seat, but we didn't care as long as we were on the bus. We did often share with the French quarter. Leave lots of time! It is a very slow process!

The mardi gras parade was very cute. They gave out tons of beads and candy...so big hit with the kiddos!

It was a very nice resort....spread out, with beautiful views, landscaping. Everyone who worked there was very nice....especially in the lounge!

This was our first stay at a Disney resort. For us staying on site has its pros and cons, but overall this was a great place for the money and I would recommend it to others.

Thanks for your great review. We are going to be at POR in May. Can't wait.

Thanks for the review. We are headed to POR for the first time on March 13th and are very excited about it.

Not worried about bus transportation too much. We have stayed at Saratoga Springs, which has five or six stops, and never had a problem so we don't expect this to be too bad.

If you were pleased with SSR, you will love POR.

Thanks- heading there for the first time in 4 weeks, and just dont have time to go throught the zillion pages on the POR board. We have stayed at POFQ, but this is the first time there.

That is awesome to hear. We loved the grounds at SSR, everything felt peaceful and relaxing. Last year we stayed at POP, which we would recommend for sure, but it felt totally different.

We had actually booked POP again this year but upgraded to POR yesterday. It looks so nice and really didn't cost too much more.

You will love it! It is our favorite Disney Resort.

OP, I'm glad you had a great time. It really is a great place to stay and I love the little extras that they offer over the other Mod resorts such as Bob, the boat to DTD and more. It just feels like home to us now.

Actually, my quote was tied to her comment about the buses.

I meant that if she was pleased with the bus service at SSR, she will love it at POR.

Did you stay in the regular refurbed room or the Alligator Bayuo room ?

We are a family of 5 and are hoping that the new AB rooms will be much better with the murphy bed...

POR is my favorite place to stay :) I love the peacefulness once we get off the bus after a long day at the parks. We have never really has any issues with the busses, we usually hopped on toward the back of the resort by our room.

We booked a garden view room. We are a family of 4 so we could have been put anywhere, but our room was in the mansion section. From the pics, the alligator bayou makeover looks alot cuter than the refurb of the mansion buildings. We were very close to the north depot and used that stop often. We never had a bus pass us that was full...we just squeezed on!

We had a new room in Acadian House last Aug. We really loved it. Didn't find the sheets scratchy at all. We were by the quiet pool and it's a great location, very close to bridge over to Old Man Island. We did a combination of using main pool and quiet pool, depending on how crowded main pool was.

Loved using the North Depot. Very close, and busses were never crowded, and 99% of the time was well under a 20 min wait.

Piano Bob is fantastic. Something for everyone.

Pasta bar is our fav too :goodvibes

POR is our favorite resort by far! We tried different resorts on our last few WDW trips, but we still love POR the best! We will be staying there in May, and it feels like we will be "coming home". Silly, I know......

I am with ya! I daydream about walking into those front door at the lobby quite often.

I'm actually really glad to hear this. When I booked our trip in March, I wanted to be close to Best Friends so we could see our pups easily so I chose POR instead of our usual of SSR.

We've never had good luck with the buses at SSR. Usually our view is that we're on vacation, when it comes it comes... but there have been times when MAN the wait is long. Usually our preference is to head over to DTD and see if our luck there is better. I'm really happy to hear the bus service is better at POR.

The only advantage at my one stay at SSR was that instead of taking the water taxi back to POR, after using the bus hub, you can walk over from SSR. A few mornings, we took our chances and walked over to the bus hub, and did manage to catch a few resorts buses closest to some of the parks or other transportation to the parks. I. E., WL taking the boat over to MK.

But overall, I was somewhat frustrated with SSR. One morning, we saw three buses go by at 9:00 am for DTD....and then no buses for another ten minutes. Also, we were at Springs and it filled up quickly since THV transfers there. It also seemed they had the older buses with less seating capacity.

The POR buses seem to be more up-to-date and hold more people, even using the wheelchair option.

I personally think POR is much nicer and better than POFQ. In my opinion the only thing going for POFQ is the small resort and one bus (oh, and the biegnets!).

I agree with this. We also stayed in the Acadian mansion in August as well, we LOVED the new rooms! Everything about it is so gorgeous. I didnt find the bed sheets scratchy either....in fact I thought it was very comfy! OP, sorry you were disappointed. Maybe your expectations are higher than mine.

The towels are pretty rough thou, I gotta admit. But whatever.

The pasta station is my fave as well. So good.

I had no probs with the buses at all. Didnt wait very long. I was really impressed with this resort.

Thanks for the review we are arriving in 4 weeks to POR. We are staying in the Royal gust rooms the kids are very excited. This will be our 1st stay at the Riverside part of POR . Glad you had a great trip!

Hi
How comfortable were the new beds? Were they real hard. We stayed at Pop in November after it was rehabbed, and the beds were so hard, that we had to change resorts. Felt like we were sleeping on the floor!!
