Just back from POP

I have to admit I was getting a little nervous too. We are booked at POP Aug 30-Sept 6. Never stayed at a value before, thought DS would get a kick out of the scenery. I have heard so many good things about POP, I wasn't worried at all. Figured it would be louder than the mods but not outrageous, and I love that they have their own buses. I hope I'm not dissapointed!

As far as the whole bus, seat giving up thing...it's not that people are entitled to a seat, it's just a "nice" thing to do. DH would give up his seat in a second to a woman, child or an elderly person but not because he feels they are entitled to it, just because he's a nice guy.

IMO, if you are determined to get a seat on a bus you have the option of waiting for the next one. I don't think that anyone should get on a bus expecting others to give up their seat for them for whatever reason. Is it nice for someone to do? Of course, but it's something that should be viewed as 'extra kindness' when it happens, not 'being rude' because it doesn't.

Exactly! :)

I'm a middle aged woman and I'm fortunate enough that my legs still work. I do not expect a man to give up a seat for me. Standing for another fifteen minutes isn't going to kill me if I can walk around the park all day. I will give up my seat for an elderly person, a small child or a parent holding a baby and I expect my sons to do the same.

DJDisneyKid - I do respect your opinion. Yes, you have spent a lot of money for your vacation just like the rest of us and if you're lucky enough to get a seat on the bus, you have every right to sit in the seat and enjoy the ride. The men get tired too sometimes just like the ladies. :)

To the poster who was worried about staying at POP - we've been there and had a very nice experience. You will hear both good and bad reviews of just about every resort on these boards. Take them with a grain of salt and don't worry. I'm sure you will have a great vacation. :)

If you go to Pop Century looking for problems you will find them. If you go with an open mind and the thought you are going to have a wonderful time, you will have it. :wizard:

I have to say we are a deluxe family but spent 3 nights at Pop this past March for a quick trip. I never encountered any rude guests or CM's during our stay. There were variety of tyoes of people just like anywhere else. My DS3 was always given a seat on the bus if we didn't have one. Also DH and I always give up our seat to anyone who need it more or is holding a small child. That is just being courteous IMO. Now I don't think I would want tp soend a week at Pop because it is just more crowded and noisy at value resorts because there are more rooms. Also we like to have a Table service restaurant and like a quieter resort to relaxe at.

I have stayed at Pop the last three times I went to WDW and will be staying there again in August. We've always had a great time! Sure I have seen people act is very non-Disney ways, but I have also seen this at the parks, DTD, and at every resort we have visited. Rudeness is not something that is more common in people on a budget; actually I find that it is often the reverse!

Equal rights, you fought for it, you won, enjoy! :thumbsup2
Also, everyone going to WDW knows that they are in for alot of walking and standing in lines, etc. If your children or grandparents can't handle it, then maybe WDW isn't the place for them to vacation. Why should I suffer because you chose to have kids and I didn't, or because an old person chose to vacation at WDW knowing that they aren't in very good shape. Im on vacation too and Im just as exhausted as the next person after a long day. Alot of us "MEN" are willing to skip things like fireworks or parades to get a seat on the bus because we are tired. So even though I missed seeing something to get a seat, I should still give it up to anyone whos not a man? Im offended.

Its obviously a good thing you don't have children  The next time you are at the World I hope someone runs over you with their ECV and trips you with their stroller.

Hi
I don't think you have anything to be nervous about. Pop is a fun resort. I've stayed there 5 times and we've always had a good time there. It's a busy place, but I always liked the liveliness of it. My DGD (5) loves it. The rooms were always clean. We're hardly in the room, so the price was right. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

We've waited for another bus to get seats, and I don't expect anyone to give up a seat for me. But even with waiting for another bus, I always put my DGD on my lap or my DD's and if there is a mother standing with a baby, my DD or myself will give her a seat, since we know how hard it is to stand with a baby. Really, the ride back to the resort isn't that long.

As far as elderly, Disney already gives them front of the line access to the buses if they are on scooters / wheelchairs. I think its offensive that just because of my sex, I should be expected to give up my seat.

The scooters/wheelchairs have "front of the line access for busses for SAFETY reasons. You try being in a wheelchair and parking in that spot with 40 people already on it, NO way is that going to happen. We have waited many times for another bus and it did not bother us at all.

My b/f would gladly trade his "front of the line access" to be able to walk.

Well back to POP-
We have stayed at deluxe, mods and this past June in an effort to save $$ for a very short trip we tried out POP. We were VERY pleasantly surprised how much we enjoyed it.
When we visit Disney we like to stay at a Disney resort but our main focus is the parks. We do expect a clean comfortable room to come back to when we are worn out late at night. We requested a first floor room, away from the pool ( think quiet) and got all our expectations met.
We thought the food court was pretty good, we did not eat there much but what we had we enjoyed. Staff was all friendly. We thought the huge icons were a hoot and wished we had more time to explore the resort so we could see them all.
Buses were never much of a wait, although I do agree some covering would be a good idea. We waited less at POP than we did at WL.
Being a couple on our 33 anniversary we were a little worried that POP might be overrun with kids, sure there were plenty but they did not bother us a bit.Other guests were friendly- if you smile or say HI you will generally get the same in return
When we saw all the christmas decoration pictures posted here on the DIS we knew we wanted to go back to WDW for christmas. Yep were staying at POP and plan on another enjoyable trip.

We have found that no matter where you stay you will find positives and negatives so make the best of it either way.

So anyone who doesn't give up their seat wasn't raised right?
Of course not - it's much more likely they were raised right, and just don't care.

I hear ya. I feel the same way and we always stay at the value resorts because we are not in our room much and the price is right, but many guests just are not friendly. I would not say i have encountered many rude guests, just not what one would expect
You should take up smoking. I met some of the nicest people in the DSAs at Pop Century!
