We returned from a 6 night stay at POP late Thursday. It was a wonderful trip, the first for our 6 mo DD, it was amazing to see WDW through her eyes and the amazement that she found in things. Since I'm posting this on the resorts board, I'll mainly stick to my thoughts on POP on this report. As always, we loved staying onsite, in our eyes you can never have a bad stay at WDW.

We arrived at POP around 1 pm via Magical Express, only had about a 5 minute wait to check in and no problems there. We were traveling with DMIL and DFIL, our room was right next to theirs as requested and our other requests that I had called in the week before were fufilled as well, top floor backside of building 3 in the 50's section. We had also rented a crib and rocking chair from " A Baby's Best Friend", we checked with the luggage room and all of the pieces were there, and we asked them to bring them to the room which they did shortly there after.

We have stayed at POP before so knew what to expect from the room, so no surprises there, everything was clean and just as we had expected. We went out to the MK for a while and returned that evening to find that our bags had been brought in from Magical Express. That night, I noticed our bathroom had a musty scent, kind of like stale cigarette smoke and you could really smell it up by the exhaust fan. When you turned the fan on it went away, when it wasn't on the smell was pretty overpowering at times. I didn't think much more about it but when we got up the next morning the whole room had taken on the smell. I'm allergic to cigarette smoke and with DD sleeping in the room we didn't want her getting sick as well so we went to the front desk to see what we could do about a room change. When I explained our problem to the front desk, they were more than helpful and were very obviously frustrated by the problems of people smoking in the rooms. They said that this goes on all the time and they don't know what else they can do to make it clear NOT to smoke in the rooms. They explained that since we were staying on the top floor all of the vents are connected in a row straight up from the first floor through the fourth and that someone must be smoking in a room below us in the bathroom and turning the fan on to vent it. They were able to get us 2 rooms together so that we were able to stay next to DMIL and DFIL and we were still able to stay on the top floor, we only had to move to building 4. They asked us to pack our bags and leave them by the door and that Luggage assistance would move them to our new room when it became available, to simply come by on our way in that night and ask for our new keys. All in all it was a very easy transition and its this kind of customer service that puts Disney above all others.

My only complaint about POP is the bus service. Like I said, we have stayed here before along with other moderates and have never had any real problems with Disney Transportation. However, this year the wait times for buses were far too long. We spent at least 2 hours of our day each day waiting for buses. For this reason alone, I don't think we will stay at a value again, last time we stayed at POP it wasn't this bad of a problem but at no point during this stay did we arrive to find a line with less that 30 people already in it. For us the added benefit of a covered bus stop with benches and less people is worth it for the extra money spent on a moderate. I would still recommend POP for people going to WDW, especially those on a tight budget, but now it will come with a warning about the transportation.:)

Welcome back - Glad to hear you had a wonderful trip. I was at the POP from the 8th - 15th and had amazing bus service the whole time. I do not think we ever waited more than 15 minutes for a bus the whole week. The only long bus line I was in was for Animal Kingdom on Wed morning and within 5 minutes of the bus pulling up a second one pulled up right next to it. I will say that we made sure to try and avoid peak times when the bus lines would be longer.

It probably also helped that my youngest was 12 so I was not slowed down by a stroller as in years past :)

I also just returned from POP yesterday. My husband and I never had to wait more than about 15 minutes for a bus. We were very satisfied with the entire trip.

We are staying at Pop because a reservation person told us that the bus went directly from Pop to the parks, vs. the other budget hotels that shared buses between each other. Does anyone know if this is true? Or did they tell me this because it was just the least crowded? Also, has anyone experienced the bus situation the last week in march. Will I be waiting for ages? Lastly, for the first person who posted on this thread, why did you specifically want the top floor to those buildings, etc? Is there a logic behind that? I happened to ask about the difference between the upgraded POP rooms and the others and they said that the regular is farther away from pool and front desk. So it seems that these will be quieter. I'm all about my sleep. Thanks.

We stayed at Pop from 12/08-12/15 as well and never had any issues with Pop buses. The longest that we ever waited was maybe 10 minutes for a bus to a park or DTD. Great stay overall. :thumbsup2

We stayed at Pop in February of this year. We also had no problem with buses. We never waited more than 5 minutes for a bus. We were also always in line for a bus prior to 8:00 in the morning too. That might make a difference. I was surprised at how quickly we got to each of the parks from Pop. I believe the longest bus ride we had to a park was MK and it didn't take more than 10 minutes. Of course one night when we left MK after Wishes there were tons of people waiting in line also but three Pop buses pulled up at the same time and we were all loaded very quickly. We're going back in February 08 and I can't wait to see how it'll be then. Glad you had a good trip. Happy Holidays!

Lynn

Hi Melissa,

It is true that the Pop Century has dedicated busses that do not stop at any other resorts. The All-Star value resorts share buses between the 3 resorts. I am afraid I cannot help with info on bus service in March as I have never stayed there at that time.

We usually make it a habit of requesting top floors wherever we stay to cut down on noise. It at least takes away one factor in that you won't have to worry about having loud neighbors upstairs pounding on the floor. We have run into that a couple of times in the past and thats why we request top floor now.:)

Thanks for your report on POP.

I was there around the same time and after talking to other people with bus complaints I think I know why I didn't have the same experience. TourGuide Mike. I was following his least crowded park charts and thought the bus service was great. I also noticed that between 8am-9am there were lots of buses and not so many people, but by 9:30-10:30am they were very crowded.

I did quite a bit of resort hopping by way of resort buses and I had worse luck at POFQ and WL, so I think that all the resorts can have bus problems. I highly recommend getting out to the bus stops early and doing some homework on crowds at the parks no matter which resort you stay at.

That's not the first time the "smoke odor" issue has been mentioned when staying at POP.

It's so sad that people can't be considerate of others.

Welcome back!

And this is a problem that is not going to go away until the resort starts hitting people up with the 250.00 (I think it is) fine.

It is too bad that some people feel entitled to smoke any place they feel like it while some of us take the DSA's seriously. I was surprised how many people were openly smoking on the balconies and not one CM said anything while I was there.

One particularly classy guest would smoke on the third floor balcony facing the pool and flick her butt down into the bushes when she was done.

The only problem I had with the smoking area near the 90's building was that they placed it in a fairly heavily traveled path to the computer pool. I felt bad sitting there smoking when people were trying to walk to the pool. I think they could find a better place for it.....

I never smelled smoke in my room but I hear people on the first floor (as I was) do not get it as bad as people on the higher floors. I do hope Disney starts to take their policy seriously and begin charging people who smoke where they are not allowed to....especially in the rooms.

The only other problem I had on my trip was people (non smokers) using the DSA's in the parks as a place to sit/eat as they seemed to be some of the least crowded area's. I received more than my fair share of dirty looks for having the nerve to smoke in a DSA...... Oh well, cannot please everyone I guess.
