Just back from POP - I'm now officially a POP snob!

Never having stayed in a Value, and with Pop being our first time in one, THANK YOU for your upbeat report. You've done a convincing job in your "resort report". But tell me, what activities are there? I've just read about water balloon fights and writing with chalk in front of the place, but what else do you consider a "must see and do"? Because I can tell ya, we'll want to see and do it all!!!:dance3:

Ive seen:
Lobby Bowling
Ping Pong by the main pool
Twister

And, when I was there in Feb, I think I saw Hoola Hoops

The lobby bowling was hysterical - it's these HUGE blown up ball and pins!

They do have chalk drawing and hula hoops out in front of the resort.

You can get hair wraps and tattoos right in back of the main building, near the Hippy Dippy pool.

We have a preferred room booked. If we want to be able to see the lake what should we ask for? If we are on the pool side, can you hear the noise in the room? Also has anybody seen any ducks near or on the lake? I love ducks! :flower3:

We have had a lakeside room twice. As for ducks...let me just say that maintenance has to wash down the sidewalks every morning! LOL

In addition to ducks, they have some kind of crane that wanders around. It's as tall as me!

Ducks, rabbits, sandhill cranes, snails - lots of almost tame animals at the resort (and at a lot of the parks, especially Epcot). And, yes they have to hose down the sidewalks frequently! Watch where you walk!

Rooms facing the lake are facing Hour Glass Lake - the lake between the Classic Years buildings and the never finished Legendary Years buildings.

Thanks for the upbeat post. We usually stay deluxe (BWI). This is our first time at a Value resort.

I'm glad you like it!

I am a POP snob too. I love it and find it to be my WDW home. I stayed in the 50's pool side once and found it to be very loud. The last time we had a room in the 60's with a great view of the lake and it was very quiet.

We have a preferred room booked. If we want to be able to see the lake what should we ask for?

Sadie
No Preferred rooms face the lake. If you want Preferred, and quiet, request the 70s. Those Preferred room face each other - no pool (but the Goofy Jets are right there).

Thanks for the reply. I grew up in the country :laundy: (almost country area now) so I know all about the little "gifts" that duck leave you. :rolleyes1

I am thrilled to see so many people appreciating Pop! We stayed there in June 2005 & I am eagerly planning our next visit for June 2008.

I thought about trying to talk my very budget-minded DH to spring for a moderate, but I just think we'd miss the fun at Pop! I have friends who go to Disney every spring break and would never dream of going to a value resort. I think they they went once and were appalled at the size of the rooms; before we went in 2005, they had me worried about our choice to go to Pop...Wow -- our exerience was AWESOME!!!party:

When we go next June, we're going to take advantage of the food court more. We only ate breakfast there once and one evening meal which we took back to our room with a cocktail. After the hustle and bustle of having so much fun during the day, it was fabulous to relax in our room with our dinner. Of course we discovered this on one of our last evenings! Don't get me wrong, there's nothing like going out to different Disney restaurants, but I was truly (and pleasantly) surprised at how good the food was at Pop!

LOL about the T-shirt and secret handshake!

Since you mentioned the wildlife, I'll ask about alligators. There was a thread awhile ago saying that there were gators in the lake. I would love to see that, and I know my sons would too. Did you happen to look or see any while you were there??

Hi I am new. I have been lurking for awhile now and decided to join in.

I too love POP. We have considered staying elsewhere but just could not do it. Can't wait to get there in 30 more days.

Welcome eeyoremum!! :cheer2:

No, didn't see any alligators, but we didn't really go over close to the lake much.

Im a newbie also. Im flying out (from the UK) on the 18th august and staying at Pop. We stopped at ASM 2 years ago and wasnt sure whether to return there or go to Pop. Reading this thread has made me even more excited than i already was, i cant wait!!!

Welcome lisa12000! We made some wonderful friends from England on VMK (Virtual Magic Kingdom) and met them in person last May at WDW!!

I found my map of the resort. We were in the 60s, building 4 facing the lake. You could get lake views from the 50s, 60s, 70s and possibly some of the 80s buildings. The 90s face to computer pool or roads/parking lots. I will say that the 60s buildings are the farthest away from their parking lot, which is a bit of a pain, but it's still not that far. The 80s and 90s and some of the 70s rooms are farthest away from the main building.

I forgot to mention the arcades - we went to the Beach Club one night for dinner and to meet up with friends who were staying there - it was pouring rain so we let our kids play in the arcade. You have to purchase a credit card type thing and the money you put on it turns into points. Like $25 got us 2000 points. The games are anywhere from 15 - 150+ points each. We were also able to use the card at the POP arcade...the major difference was that the games at POP gave tickets which you collect and turn in for prizes! The games at Beach Club - no tickets, no prizes :( POP wins again!!!!!! :hippie:

Pop has the best arcade on property - hands down. Haven't seen any alligators. When I'm not on the DDP, I love to get the kid's breakfast at Everything Pop! It comes with scrambled eggs, a sausage, a piece of bacon and applesauce or grapes (I just ask them to substitue the biscuit). It also includes a small juice. For less than $4, it's plenty of food to get me through the morning.
