Very nice Hotel, and seemed to be run better than Sports and Music!:p Nice staff, great transportation, and great luggage assistance....even at 5:30 in the AM! I had a blast the whole time I was there, and love the fact that all the buildings are very near the main building/food court.:o I was in room 6437 the very END room, overlooking the lake and the unfinished section of the Early Years....:( Wish they would get going on that section soon, but looks like the Stopped construction all together. A/C only went down to 68 but that was OK as it was cold the WHOLE time I was there. Also, one of the plugs did not work near the foot of the bed. I told the front desk about it, and they made a note of it.;) I had a great time the 6 nights I was there, but never got to look up Tyler, so, HI Tyler!

Hi Poohbear123! We just got back, too (Jan31-Feb5). Aside from the worst check-in experience ever, we really liked the resort, as well. I'll have to disagree about everything being very near the main building, however. We were in the 90's building, rooms 8420, 8421, and 8422- fourth floor. It was quite a hike to the main building, even though we took the shortcut through a very busy parking lot.
I thought the AC was cold at 68 as well, but I did keep playing with it to get the fan speed on "high".
We loved the food at the food court and my kids loved the pools. They swam in the 80's/90's quiet pool, the Hippie Dippie Pool, the kids' pool, and the pop jets.
We all thought the transportation was very good. We stayed at MK till 8:30 on Tuesday night to watch the fireworks. The line for PC took up two stalls, and it was still half way lined up down the main, far right, bus walkway. Busses came in threes, however. I have never seen that before. The three busses pulled up next to each other, but staggered like dominoes. We sat on the benches for about 1/2 an hour waiting for this HUGE stream of people to clear out. It did clear with the triple bussing, and we were able to get on a bus with plenty of seating for the ride back to PC.

Glad to hear you had a great trip! :D

Sorry to hear about your check in I checked in at 10:30 in the morning maybe that is why mine was better.;) Yep I waited for 9 busses before I got on the 10th one that night!  I left MK at 8:50pm and got back to the Hotel at 10:05pm.:o

Poohbear123,

Thank you for posting, my Trip to Pop Century is about 47 days away. Love to hear good reports...also good to hear dandave's report on check-in. ::yes::

I am anxious to hear how the air conditioning functions during the warmer months. We are staying at Pop Century in May and DH and I like our resort room to feel like the artic zone!!!

We're going in September and I too am waiting ti hear how the air works in the hot months! I like it a little cooler than most.

April, the thermostats in POP are identical to the ones in AKL. I see from your signature that you've stayed there on a previous trip...so you'll be pretty familiar with them. :) I actually prefer my room a little warmer...kept it at 70 for pretty much our entire stay. As Tyler has posted on the FAQ thread, you can call maintenance if you want to adjust the temperature lower than the 68 degree setting. I hope you enjoy your trip!!! Keeping my expectations in line with a value resort, I enjoyed staying at POP just as much as AKL. It must be that pixie dust and magic. :)

Disneylvr---

We are going in May, too! Can't wait!! We are dealing with ice and snow here and Disney is just a dream away!! (so I keep telling myself!!)
If the A/C is not cold enough-just let someone know and they can install a different thermostat. I think someone said housekeeping. We are like you-when it is hot-we definitely like it on the cool side!

Just days away to a fun filled time at POP!:happy1:

For those of you who have already stayed at PC perhaps you can give me an insight as to where to stay. I kind of would like to look out of my window and see the lake.......stay in the 50's.....be close to everything.......be in a well lit area as i am traveling single and tend to keep long hours. Yes I want it all LOL. As this will be my first time at PC I thought I might check my bags and scout around but then I do want to get to the MK. So any suggestions?

If you want to be nearer the Food Court. Its 10.00 more. Or, Pick 70's B I was in 70's A WAY out at the end of the T! It was OK for me, but I would have liked to be closer. You can also pick the 80's and you will be near the front Parking and the busses.

I just got a room at POP for two nights next week at passholder rates (was originally booked into Contemporary Wing but decided to save money last minute) Can anyone convince this Deluxe-staying girl that she'll be fine at POP? I know nothing about it; have no idea where to stay and what room to request. We will be going to MK for one day ee only and I guess I want to be near the bus stop more than anything else. Also, has anyone had any trouble checking in with an AP voucher rather than an actual AP?

punkin, we just returned from Pop and it was our first venture to a value. We usually stay at AKL, Swan or Poly.

Money was a big consideration for us plus my 10 year old wanted to try Pop...The short story is we're returning to Pop in a month.

It is a motel like experience so don't expect a deluxe feel but if you go expecting the best you'll probably be happy. The rooms are small but being new we found them quite comfy. Living with three disorganized family members left it to me to insure that all things had proper places (a must, IMO).

Our check in (at 10:00 pm) was awesome. The CM tried to get baggage asistance for us but since they were already closed he did it himself!!! I remember Tyler explaining this was an untipped position but we gave him $7 anyway.

We found navigating the Resort confusing for only a short time. Transportation wasn't quick like AKL but seemed on a par with the Swan, POR , CSR and certainly better than WL.

The icons and colors that seemed so offensive from the road during construction are not nearly so obtrusive on site. It is playful and fun.

The only negatiive we encountered was parking. Big lots full of cars and few empty spaces...Hopefully this will be addressed.

We also just returned from Pop Century, we stayed Jan 31-Feb 7th. It was a nice place, great service and the food court area is also nicely setup. The only downside I found was the busses are alot more crowded at the value resorts then the moderates, other than this it was a good place to stay.

The reason for this is that there were 2-3x as many people staying at Pop Century than Riverside during that time period.

We really enjoyed POP in December and will be back in September. We had stayed at the All Star Music once, and found it to be OK, but POP was so much more fun! My kids liked it too.

It isn't like staying at Beach Club or Old Key West, but it is very nice for a value resort. They could probably add just a 'few' things and easily make it a moderate resort (boats for the lake, slide at the pool, etc.).

We can't wait to have that tye-dyed cheesecake again!

I just found this thread and it has helped ease my fears a bit.

We are staying at the POP in March(.

Here's hoping our stay at the POP is a great as all of yours! :earsgirl:

Just so you know, the Lynx ride will be about 3 hours, possibly more. You will need to take one bus from the airport to Downtown. From there, you transfer to another bus. Each leg can be as much as 40-50 minutes. Once you get to the TTC, you will then have to board the Monorail to the MK or to Epcot. From there, you'll need to take another bus to your resort.

So Tyler, do you just look for a bus that says "Downtown Orlando"? And then when you are at a central location you get on another bus that say "Walt Disney World"? I am just curious about this because transportation cost is always so much and I am wondering what would be involved in using the bus.

Sure would be nice if they offered a public bus straight to WDW from the airport (but then Mears wouldn't like that would they).

There are a few buses that service OIA... The one you want willll say "DOWNTOWN ORLANDO" on it. I think it's the 11 and the 51.

At the Downtown Bus Station, you'll want the 50, which will be marked "MAGIC KINGDOM."

Make sure to ask for a transfer when paying the $1.25 fare (exact change only)

Exact schedules can be found at www.golynx.com
