We drove up a day earlier than expected (Thurs) so I called on the way up and got a last-minute room at Pop Century with the FL Resident discount (came to $83 inc. tax).
This was our first time at Pop Century. We liked it - but wouldn't want to spend a long time there. It's just DH and I, no kids, so we didn't hang around the pool or anything. Our room was nice though - since we booked so late, we ended up in a handicap room. It was nice because we had a King bed at no extra charge, and there was a refrigerator in the room. But, there was no hairdryer - which I didn't find out until I was dripping! LOL! But, I called and requested one and mousekeeping brought it to our room in about 10 minutes. There also was no tub - just a shower, which was fine because I wasn't planning on taking a bath anyway!
Our room was very clean (yes, I walked barefoot on the carpet and even sat on the bedspreads, gasp!).
They gave us a Mickey bath soap, face soap, and shampoo, but no lotion. I'm not sure if they just forgot the lotion, or if they never give it out in the Value resorts.
Since we were only there one night, I never found out.
The food court, IMHO, is better than the All Stars. There seems to be more comfortable seating, and better menu choices.
Friday morning, we checked out and headed to the Boardwalk Inn for a couple of nights. This was also our first time here, and we loved it! The location is great for us, since we like to hang out on the Boardwalk in the evenings anyway!
We had a very nice Standard room - we asked for an "upper floor overlooking the rose courtyard" (Thanks CPer's Mom!!!). We were on the 5th floor (top) and we had a nice view of the Illuminations fireworks from our balcony!
The only thing we missed at BWI was a food court, or some other reasonable place to grab a bite to eat. Since they don't really have an onsite restaurant, the choices are limited to restaurants out on the Boardwalk (Flying Fish, Spoodles, Big River Grill, and ESPN). It was nice being close to the Boardwalk Bakery in the mornings for coffee and breakfast though! This morning, we just refilled our refillable mugs with coffee there, and bought a box of Entemann's donuts from the store on the Boardwalk (there went my diet! LOL!).
We spent one afternoon at the quiet pool and one afternoon at the Luna Park pool. Definitely much more noisy at Luna Park!!
I think I like the quiet pool much more! LOL! But, there is no pool bar at the quiet pool, so we had to get a drink at Luna Park and take it through the resort, over to the other pool. They do make good drinks though!
Any questions about either resort?
