Short and to the point:

Polynesian the good: got our room request, wonderful CM's, towel animals
from mousekeeper, quiet pool not crowded, fireworks from beach
amazing, GF health club fantastic and very close, got mini fridge delivered in matter of minutes, resort in great shape and beautiful as always.

the bad: Volcano pool packed, had to wait in check-in line 2nd time
to get room assignment, tiki torches not lit at all.

Parks the good: MNSSHP so much
fun, everything clean and in good shape.

the bad: crowded but fast pass takes care of that,

Dining the good: dining plan was fantastic very convenient and so much food, Jiko and Boma fantastic, Chef Mickey's a great experience (got a hug and kiss from Minnie), Teppanyaki great time, some good counter service meals.

the bad: some counter services not very good, San Angel Inn great food and atmosphere but felt incredibly rushed.

Overall we had a wonderful time, very relaxing and great fun to boot, 98% of CM's were fantastic, of course you will always have a few less than happy. However, flame me if you wish, but the incidence of out of control kids seems to be on the increase. I know they're excited, but Mom and Dad just let them go friggin' nutz, like the 5 yr. old little boy at Teppanyaki, standing on his chair, hovering over the 500 degree cooking surface, while oblivious parents continue to enjoy their meal until the chef tells the little boy to be careful. I was just waiting for the kid to take a header onto the grill. Believe me, this is one of many we experienced througout WDW. We're now looking to do December 2006 to experience the xmas decor.

Glad to hear that you had a good trip and that the Poly is great.

We are headed there in December and are very excited!!!

:sunny: Our first trip to WDW, Dec 2005 :sunny:

Great review. This is one resort, I feel, we must stay at! Glad to hear a good review. Did you get a chance to do a luau?

"....wonderful time, very relaxing, and great fun to boot" You can't get much better than that when on vacation! Glad you had a happy one. We return to the Polynesian in less than 6 weeks, and I can't wait. Hoping the tiki lights are back up and running by then. Others have also reported that they haven't been lit. Strolling around at night and coming home to the lit tiki torches is one of the things I love most about the Polynesian. One of the many things I love most! :)

What longhouse did you stay in this trip?

Susie

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get a rennovated room (the comment about the minifridge).

When I was there three weeks ago, the tiki torches weren't lit either, a little disappointing. The waterfall in the main lobby wasn't on at all until the last day (VERY disappointing).

Welcome back.

It is common that this time of year and around March they have things shut down and are doing work. They try to do the work during those times so that everything is working for the Christmas season and then again they get things ready for the 4th of July week, or at least that was the impression I got.

Aloha

Steve

We stayed in Aotearoa, 3rd flr. w/balcony, we love the monorail view, and it's a very short walk to the GF health club. Even though the torches weren't lit, the walk through the village was a beautiful as ever, especially at night coming from the TTC. The old room decor is still really cool, so we really didn't care that we didn't get a new room, maybe next year.

Hello...I am new here (been lurking awhile, though!) and I am confused about the minifridges. Our family will be taking our first Disney vacation in August '06 and we are staying at the Poly! I can't wait! Anyway, I thought that all the rooms there have the minifridges. Is it just the new rooms? If not, can we just ask at check-in? (can you tell I don't know much about Disney resorts? )

Thanks!
Lisa

Glad you had a great visit! I agree about some of the kids. I witnessed a mother letting her little girl actually crawl around on top of the fixin's bar at Pecos Bill's to get what she wanted. I'm not talking just on the edge where your tray would go either, this kid was up in there where all the food is.

All new rooms have a larger built in refrigerator. If you are checked into an older design than you will need to request (for free) a refrigerator for your room. By August 06 hopefully most or all rooms will be upgraded.

Hey Tikiman, I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but is there an outside chance all or most of the longhouses (Aotearoa) might be done by next fall? We're planning a Dec. trip and it would be nice to get a new room. I know the rehab schedule is subject to change, just wondered.

Aotearoa is supposed to be started soon so it should be done by then and the plan is to finish them all by the summer so there is always a chance.
