We arrived last Saturday afternoon, and left yesterday. We stayed in a garden view room in Rapa Nui (2124). I had read a ton on the boards before leaving, so I had very high expectations of this "relaxing" resort. I did love the gardens, and the walking trails...very relaxing, especially at night. I never saw hula dancers in the lobby. We never made it a point to see the torch lighting ceremony, so the only ceremony we got was the man riding on the golf cart riding from light to light, and lighting them. The pool can't be beat! My son loved it, and the slide even took my breath away (very fast and dark).
The rooms were huge (just as I had read), but the housekeeping could have been much better!!
Upon our very first entrance into the room, we found a bag of jolly ranchers under the curtains, and a gold cross earring in the floor. I'm sure these belonged to the previous occupants. No towel animals or extra magic in the rooms, despite 2.00/day tips. I hadn't heard of anyone getting these at the resort, so I didn't expect them.
My son did have a birthday party while we were there. I told the clerk at check in. He got a call from Mickey and Minnie at 8pm on the evening of his b-day.
He also got a free birthday dessert at Kona Cafe (with lit candles and sprinkles). "Happy Birthday" was written on the plate in chocolate! We just happened to be eating there on that night. After returning from a water mouse ride with his dad, the lady didn't charge the b-day boy for their ride! So, he had some really nice birthday surprises at the resort!
Ohana's dinner buffet (all you can eat is brought to your table via servers) was excellent! Kona had a great breakfast, too!
The walk to the TTC to get on the monorail felt shorter than our walk to the main ceremonial house. The buildings are very spread apart. This is nice in the evening, but terrible when you're tired after a long day in the parks! I really did love the resort, but I do wish there was more magic in the rooms! All the staff were friendly! My son also like the lizards, rabbits, and ducks all around the resort! The water taste terrible all over Disney World. I recommend bottled water for drinking, especially for a baby!!!!!
My son was bathing, and asked what the stinky smell was. Yes, it was the water.
You can always tell when someone above you is bathing, or flushing the toilet! It woke my sleeping baby twice in one night. It's not really loud. You don't notice it after a few days, except at night time.
Overall, I loved the resort! It was soooo nice walking along the sidewalks at night. This was my favorite thing about it. My son's favorite thing is the volcano pool's slide!
I also need to mention that being at a monorail resort cannot be beat, especially with a baby in a stroller! This was the most convenient and easy transportation. It will be hard to stay at a non-monorail resort in the future.
