LOVED IT! Took my DD6 and DS 7. DS is a pirate lover so I didn't worry about him. Worried about DD because she can be a little sensitive, but NO worries. She told me thru the wholething...."I'm not scared" "those silly boneheads".

Johnny Depp is a fantastic pirate! Perfect! I can totally see my son as Cap. Jack for Halloween.

The story was great. The swordwork entertaining - for those of you who know Errol Flynn movies - my sister and I both agree that this was better swordwork.

Very good movie. Definitely see-able in the theater again and buying it when it's released.

We just got back, too. DS (8) loved it (but said it was a bit too long). I agree about Johnny Depp. It was a great role for him.

Did you catch the hidden Mickey? Towards the beginning when one of the cannons was firing, the camera followed the smoke drifting off. I swear it was in the shape of the Mouse's head.

DS just looked at me cross-eyed when I pointed this out. ;)

So you would say that POTC is not too scary then?We have a DS who is 5.

Like I said...DD6 and DS7 did not think ANY of it was scary. But it depends on your kids. It's basically skeletons with rags.

Excellent to hear...

I think that SSB is off to the Beer Theater tonight, to catch it!

:) :) :)

Just saw it! Fun movie!

I still see Edward Scissorhands when I look at Johnny Depp. I swear, he still moves his arms around like his character did in that movie!

Whats with the PG 13 rating??? What in it wasn't okay for little kids? My son, almost 6 is totally never afraid and loves pirates, but I was afraid it might have love scenes or language issues. Why do you think it was 13 and not just pg?? Just for scariness??

FT -- I think the 13 is for overall scariness potential. I think if my DS had been, say 5, I probably wouldn't have taken him. But his "fright factor" has decreased significantly in the past few years. I read somewhere (Newsweek???) that in one scene Orlando Bloom reaches to touch the woman's breast and that that accounted, at least partially for the PG-13. Thought when I saw that scene that if that's really why, it's a strange world we live in....

SSB, glad SOMEONE finally saw what I was talking about. Thought I might have a touch of "mouse" fever or something.

We are typically very strict parents about the PG-13 until we see a movie first. We took a risk this time and took our 9 yo son on opening day and were pleased with the quality of the movie for families. There is no sex and no bad language. The pirates are mean and scary, they turn into skeletons sometimes, basically, it's a ghost story. There are a lot of pirate fight scenes. But mostly sword fighting. A few gun shots are fired but not many. Some of the fight scenes are hysterical. People don't really die much, you'll have to see the movie to see why. There's a little blood, but it has it's appropriate moments. The violence is not the gory, chopping heads off or blowing people away kind. However, because of the fight scenes, the skeletons and the blood, it is definitely deserving of it's PG-13 rating, but in our experience, PG-13 has a very wide range of appropriateness for under 13 age children. If I could rate this one differently, I might give it a PG-8. I think younger children might be frightened, but there's nothing in it that I found morally offensive for my 9 yo. He thought it was funny, and a fun movie to watch.

hope to see it this weekend :)
