Just back from OKW

Doc, we were in #49 last week, checked out the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We were in the studios #4410 and #4416. So sorry we missed you! I looked for DVC'ers all over, but never did see any lime green Mickey Heads... The staff at OKW told similar tales when we were there. One housekeeper I approached (two little kids, never enough toilet tissue...) said they were extremely busy because hundreds were checking in/out right before Thanksgiving. We also spent a first night at Riverside and it was similarly packed -- they told me there that 300 families had checked in the same afternoon I did. Something nice about OKW is that it doesn't feel crowded even when it's full!

Thanks for the SSR photos.

I think that is why it is sometimes difficult to tell when the resort truely is full. Our first January trip at OKW in 1996 was the only time I recall it seemed like a low number of guests.

I see from your post that you are talking about OKW and BWV; not ALL Disney resorts. ALL Disney resorts just sounded a little too unbelievable even if in this case the word of mouth from a CM IS being considered reliable.

Actually, I was talking about ALL Disney resorts. That was the quote from the CM's I mentioned (two at OKW and one at BWV). I thought it was interesting- which is the reason I reported what I was told. Please feel free to accept or discard the information. My comments pertained to information provided by CM's last Wed, Thursday and Sunday. The numbers and statement may well be different today as they were not a blanket statement covering the entire year- just a brief period in time.

As I stated, this was nothing "official" from DVC, just statistical information provided by several different CM's (and it had nothing to do with DVC either- thus a very BIG difference in the thread you were referencing from a week or two ago).

If anyone needs other information or clarification about what I was talking about in another thread a couple of weeks ago, please contact me by PM or email to discuss it, as this thread is not the place for such discussion.

Thanks for allowing me to clarify my trip report. :teeth:

Doc, It was a pleasure to meet you and all the others. We have a few more days here to enjoy. We have a DVD player in hte one bedroom on Bld.16.

From what we saw during the week we visited (Saturday before Thanksgiving til Saturday following) I wouldn't be surprised to hear that every room at WDW was full... The place was a madhouse. Riverside was rocking, as was Coronado and AKL when we visited those. OKW had more cars parked in front of each building than I have ever seen. I called for PS one afternoon and was on hold a good twenty-five minutes before they took my call (luckily, we got in to Kona Cafe and it was GREAT!). What was really scary, however, was the Magic Kindgom. Mom was in a wheelchair that day and I had a heck of a time pushing her through all the people. By "Philharmagic" it was literally a sea of people and it was all we could do to just try and leave to go swimming. This was the Monday before Thanksgiving, "before" all the holiday crowds were due to arrive! After that we gave up on the parks, and spent the week boating and swimming. In any case, it sure seemed like the World was plenty busy EVERYWHERE!

We were just leaving as you were arriving. I agree as it got closer to Thanksgiving week it got more crowded all over the world!

And it was good to see you again Doc!

Danny's DIS meet was a lot of fun and a lot of people showed up after you left - some from Canada and England!

I have to say that dh and I noticed that the parks and resorts seem the most crowded we've seen in the last few years.

Scott - glad to hear that the DVD players are making it into OKW - we're in 4021 and we still have a VCR that seems to have seen it's lifespan.

Still a few days left here - and the refurbing is still going on in units on Turtle Pond Rd. I'm sure they will be done by the holidays.

Can't wait for my next visit "Home" and I haven't even left yet.

Glad to hear they are installing the DVC DVD players! Also sounds like refurb is getting closer to the South Point area!
