Hi everyone!

We just returned from a 5-night stay at OKW. It was such a fantastic trip! I hope to post detailed trip reports later, but wanted to get out a quick report on our resort stay.

This was a trip with extended family. There were 13 of us in all, so I made ressies for a GV for my family, and a 1BDR for my BIL and his family. I requested first floor access and non-smoking rooms, and I also asked that the rooms be close together.

DH and I and our kids arrived at noon on 11/28 and were pleasantly surprised to find our room was ready! :cheer2: They told me that the GV was on the 2nd floor. :( I was concerned because my mom has arthritis and stairs are difficult. But this building has an elevator that was practically right outside our door. :Pinkbounc Yeah!!! Problem solved! We check in and begin to get settled while we waited for the rest of the family to arrive.

We were in room 6322. The room was in excellent condition and had one of the new foam mattress sleeper-sofas and a DVD player. It’s a handicap accessible room that had a seat in the shower (no tub), but that was fine with us.

When BIL’s family arrived, we learned they had been given room 6321. I think the only way to get us any closer would be to knock out the wall in between us! With all (OK, most) of my requests met, I was one happy camper! :cool1: I checked out their room as well, and it also appeared to be in excellent condition.

The pool refurb seems to be coming along nicely. I really got an idea of what the new slide will look like when it is done. There was always someone working on it, so I hav no doubt it will be done by the end of the year.

To us, the parks seemed much more crowded this time around. We usually had little or no wait for the attractions, but there just seemed to be so many more people out in the streets. We didn’t get to as many things as we usually do. I don’t know if that’s because our own group was larger, or a result of the larger crowds. But it didn’t cramp or style too much!

After checking out of OKW, we took the opportunity to explore SSR. The rooms were gorgeous, but after spending the week at OKW they seemed teeny. (Of course, the GV made my first apartment look teeny, but that’s another story.) I was stunned by how large the resort area will be when completed, which our guide said would be in about 18 months. I asked about the rumors of additional DVC properties, and she said they’re only focusing on SSR now.

That's the quick report. I'll post more in my trip reports later.

Glad to hear you had such a great time. :cool1: I love OKW. It's so nice to be able to share the magic with family members.

Thanks for the report. Glad you had a great trip!

Thank you for your report!

I am glad you enjoyed your family vacation! I really like the elevator buildings.

At the OKW annual meeting last week, Jim Lewis said SSR final phase is scheduled to be complete in 2007.

I couldn't agree more! That was one of hte reasons we bought DVC in the first place, and this was our first opportunity to share it with the family!

We checked in on the 30th and are still here. The weather is fabulous, but I have to agree that the crowds are much heavier than past early Decembers. I was amazed at how much was done on the slide since our October trip! I have no doubt it will be done in a week to 10 days. They have the "skin" that looks like sand on, but no color as yet. I'll try to remember to take and post a picture before we leave on Friday.

Thanks for the report Duchie !

We found this to also be true of our early November visit. Glad you're having a nice time despite the increased crowds.

Thanks Diane. Happy to hear you're having fun too. The pool sounds like it had a surge in way of construction since I was there the first week of November. Looking forward to the pics. Enjoy the warm weather !

Hi,

Does anyone have any updated pictures of the OKW Pool? We are going in January and can't wait to see it! We just became DVC Owners at OKW the end of November!!!
:cheer2:

Glad you had a nice trip!

I do believe that all GV's start on the 2nd floor. I could be wrong, but seems to me they are all in 3 story bldgs and use the 2nd/3rd floors.

Yes, all OKW GVs are 2nd and 3rd floors.

Sorry, but I forgot to take the updated picture of the slide! It was raining and cloudy Friday, and I never walked over to HH to take it. I didn't even think about it until we were on the plane heading home! The ones Doc posted were about what we saw at the begninning of our trip, but they were preparing to paint when we left.

I can't say for sure, but we stayed at OKW last summer and noticed a building over by the pool at Turtle Crawl(I think) that had grand villas in it. I thought that one of the grand villas was on the first-second floors. :3dglasses
