I returned yesterday form my first trip ever to New Orleans, I LOVED it! What a wonderful city, so much fun!
3 friends and I went(one a native of Metarie/New Orleans) and the one from the area took us around to the areas that were damaged on our way to the French Quarter from the airport. Very sobering.
We stayed at Place D'Arms on St Ann's right by Jackson Square, great location.
Shopped a lot, took a lunch cruise on the Mississippi on the Natchez steamboat, ate at Tujagues, tried crawfish for the first time, had beignets twice at Cafe Du Monde and once at Morning Call, had a Hurricane in the courtyard of Pat O'Briens, had a VERY fun night in Pat O'Brien's piano bar, went on the ghost tour with the fabulous Ernie as our guide..only in N.O would you stop halfway through the tour at a bar for a break..and end at a bar. Cracked me up. Our hotel was haunted btw. eeek!
Saw Bourbon Street
oh my! LOLOL!! Took the ferry across the river to visit Mardi Gras World, had po-boys at Mothers, won $5 at Harrahs, LOL, and basically had the time of my life.
Only in New Orleans can you get a daiquiri every 20 feet at 3 am, but can't find a place open for breakfast at 8 am. LOL
If you have the chance to go to New Orleans and support their economy right now, go go go, you will NOT regret it!
I felt very safe(though I wasn't ever alone) and enjoyed so much the people I met there, I loved the whiole vibe of the place.
