Just back from my trip and I am a little disappointed with USO.

We are just back from a ten day trip to WDW and was a little disappointed with the 2 days at USO.
First let me start by saying we still had a good time. We enjoyed IOA over US by far, but it just did not live up to our expectations.
My biggest gripe was over the 2 days we were stopped by five different people with offers to visit time shares. We pretty much ran away from at least 4 or 5 more before then could even start their sales pitch. We found this just rediculous, after paying good money to be there the last thing we wanted to do is have to duck away from salesmen. Besides the timeshare people each time we would come to or from the garage we were haunted by then Universal credit card people. "No thank you I do not want your free cheap bag for signing up" Boy was that annoying!
The last thing I want to do is sit here and compare US to WDW but, throughout WDW we saw dozens of Disney vaction club booths and never seen them approch anyone.

As for the parks themselves, at US we thought the Mummy was great, MIB was good, and Shrek was also pretty good. A major disapointment for us was Mels drive-in we saw it from the outside on our 1st day and decided we had to eat there for lunch the following day. A 50's burger joint how cool is that? WRONG, BIG MISTAKE! As we walk in we expect to hear some kind of great 50's music, and what is playing? That great 50's tune Say, say, say by Micheal Jackson and Paul McCartney, Oh wait a minute or was that the 80's? Hummm, I dont know they are so similar! Any way the food stunk as did the atmosphere, big let down there! Overall we thought US was pretty sad.
As for IOA the rides were better, the Popeye ride just blows away Kali River Rapids. Hulk and DD were very cool. The themeing was great but I did not like the way the park is set up. The layout doesn't allow you to travel to and from the different parts of the park. Because it circles around water (like Epcots world showcase, but on a much larger scale) it is almost impossible to backtrack to reride your favorites.
Another thing I did like was the lockers outside some rides (especially the free ones) and not needing a key, they are controlled with your thumb print.

It also seemed like the rides were down quite often though. On our second day we got to toon lagoon at about 9:30, we wanted to ride Popeye but it did not open untill 10am. We decided to run over to the Jarrassic Park area and ride the bird things (sorry I do not remember the name). After we got all the way up there and waited about 10 min. the ride shut down, we asked if it would be long and they said just a few more minutes. After waiting another 15 we decided to leave and head back to Popeye. By now it was 10:15 but Popeye was still now open. We waited about 15 min but decided to leave before out locker cost us another $2 and we have yet to ride anything. When we got to the locker it would not open and we thought we lost our minds because we were all sure this was where we left our things. I spotted someone working at some near by lockers and asked him for help, he said he would be there in a couple of minutes. I waited and waited then saw him comming my way, but I turned to tell my husband he was comming and when I looked back he was no where in site. I found another person standing at the Dudley do right ride and she called a girl over to help. Finally we had someone competent and she opened our locker, gave us a new one at no charge, and called the popeye ride to see if it was up and running. It was, so she gave them our name and sent us over so we could go right on the ride. It was kinda funny because when we got there the guy took us around the back way (which was quite a walk) and when we got to where we get on the ride, there was only one family standing in line for it anyway. I guess it's the thought that counts! :goodvibes
Overall even though we had a few bumps in the road we did have a good time. We have not decided if we will return on our next trip in 2008 but if we do we will just do one day at IOA. I do want to thank all the US/IOA experts that helped me plan, it really did help. We really wanted to love the parks like so many of you do but for us (even my 13 yr old son) Disney still rules.

I respect your opinion and it looks like you were trying to have a good time it just didnt work out as well for you.

I agree about the people coming up to you constantly for different things, that has gotten a lot worse than it used to be.

In one day I was stopped for a credit card application, a request to preview a new NBC TV show (sorry thats not what I call exciting) and a lengthy survey.

On the other hand, I've never seen any timeshare people at Universal, is that something new?

I think there is a timeshare thing between Jaws and MIB. Nobody ever stops me. I never look at them.

Try staying on site a few days on your next trip to Universal. It makes a world of difference.

Oh yes I did get stopped for a survey as well when we were entering IOA, but it was short and really did not bother me.

This was just last Tuesday and Wendsday (I dont know if it being a weekday had anything to do with it, less locals???) and they were all over both parks. I not only did not look at them but after the first one I was quite clear I had no interest when they would approched. I said to them loudly "no thanks our time is more valuable then anything you would have to offer". Two different times they approched my boys with small talk asking them "are you having fun" and "what is your favorite ride". I think those people were the worst!

As for staying on site, we had looked into that before we booked this trip and compared to the deal we got with Disney it was not even close. Now after this trip not even my 13yr. old son has any interest in staying at Universal.

I've never been approached by sales people there, but that does sound annoying, that must be something fairly new, people like that I just say no thanks and walk away. I wouldn't let it ruin my time though.

I was stopped this past August for timeshare thing over where donkey and shrek characters are. I told him I wasn't interested but he wouldn't take no for an answer. I just kept walking away and didn't bother saying anything else to him.

The timeshare people at USO are people from Fairfield resorts... It's been my experience that some of them can get a little in your face at times and won't take no for an answer.

That's the great thing about having both Disney and Universal. My son won't go near Disney and many others don't like Universal. We are all so lucky to have the choice! My experience with prices seem to be different than yours. I can't get a deluxe resort at Disney for anywhere near the price of the deluxe resorts at Universal, so we choose to stay at Universal. Perhaps it is the time of year that we go. I have never paid over $170/night for the Universal hotels but have paid over $400/night for Disney hotels. That was before we discovered Universal. It is great that we all find our favourites.

We were approached several times on our last trip. I had to tell them NO at least three times before they stopped annoying us. Why would Universal allow sales people from the Fairfield to annoy their customers?

Amen to that! One asked where we were staying. WHne DH said PBH, the guy says, well, for the ridiculous amount that you're paying to stay there you could stay in one of our spacious 2,000 sq. ft. villas. We jsut walked on, I halfway expected DH to say, yeah, but we choose NOT to!

I personally hated the solicitors, DH got pretty steamed about them. I had the lady approach me about doing the TV show thing, offered me a whole $10 for my time. I almost laughed at her. There were several Westgate folks there. I didn't see the Fairfield ones. THe Westgate ones were pretty obnoxious though. :(

Man, I wish I payed $170 ! I payed $340 a night for PBH, which is what I payed for the GF during peak spring.

I was there for a whole week and have never been approached by anyone trying to sell me something or apply for a credit card. I didnt even know they were in the parks :confused3

The credit card people I've seen arent in the parks but in the parking garage area, so if youre in the hotels you'd probably not even see them.

we get hit on by the timeshare guys every trip, it's the one thing I detest about the parks. even when we tell them we live an hour away, they still want to keep the presentation going.

(we like Mel's food) :)

I suggest anyone who is annoyed with these timeshare people, complain to guest relations. maybe if enough people complain, they will remove them.

We will be staying at a Fairfield property in Kissimmee in December and would gladly do a timeshare tour in exchange for US/IOA tickets. We are already planning on one full day at US/IOA (on :cloud9: about this) but if we could arrange for complimentary tickets through Fairfield, we would LOVE  to add another day.

Can anyone tell me exactly what we would receive in the way of tickets for doing a FF tour??

Also, does anyone know if Canadians qualify for FF timeshare presentations?

Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

As I mentioned, when we were there last week it was Westgate properties, the first one that ambushed us was offering a dinner show for our family for $20 total. Not impressive enough for us to stop and talk.

The first person that spoke to us offered breakfast and $70, no others got a chance to really offer anything.

Sorry you had some bumps on your first visit to USF. While we love all things Universal, the timeshare people IRK us to no end! They always come after us, and it is annoying. What's really deceiving is that they are stationed at a stand that says "Refreshments" in between MIB and FF. It's pretty obvious there aren't any refreshments there, but if you look long enough to figure out if there are or not, they will stop you or try to get your attention.

I wish USF would have a strict policy that the timeshare folks may not approach guests. They should only be able to talk to guests who have approached them. We find them to be a terrible nuisance, and we have resorted to either taking a circuitous route to avoid where they are usually stationed, or we put our heads down and walk really fast past them. :) It is one thing I wish USF would change. I realize they must pay boku rent to be there, but honestly ... some kind of compromise has to be made.

As someone mentioned, next time we will make a point of stopping at guest services when we are approached. Perhaps if enough people do that, things will change.

Only the timeshare folks bother us. All the other survey/TV preview people have been polite, and easily take "no" for an answer. We have never been approached by the credit card people.
