Just back from MCO and using Spirit Airlines...

First off, we had no issues with security at MCO. Our flight was at 10:30 a.m., we got in line about 8:50 a.m., and were at the gate by 9 a.m.

We took Spirit Airlines, which we've had some issues with in the past (not having their own gates, terrible check-in procedures, old uncomfortable planes, etc.) but we tried them again because of the great rate ($136 roundtrip Detroit to MCO).

Well, Spirit now has great new airplanes, with leather seats, and have upgraded the rest of their act quite a bit. Check in was easy, they also had curbside checkin, too. They are now just as nice to take (maybe nicer) than Northwest.

We took others' advice, and DH dropped off me, DS and all the luggage at curbside checkin. I checked us all in, got our boarding passes, and he returned the rental car and we met up at security. It was a snap.

Also, I highly recommend taking the 417 to the airport from Disney. It was a snap, and there was NO TRAFFIC, unlike how snarled up I-4 gets in the morning, and this was at rush hour! It was great. If you ask at the front desk or valet of your Disney hotel, they have preprinted instructions on how to get to the airport. We were checking in the luggage less than a half-hour after leaving the Beach Club.

Here's another :thumbsup2 for Spirit Airlines! Unfortunately, they have stopped flying to MCO from Chicago O'Hare. :sad2: But when they were flying from ORD, we had many pleasant flights with them.

We also had a good experience with Spirit from Atlantic City, NJ to MCO in 2004. I'm anxiously waiting  the fares for our trip this December. Currently they have only released fares through December 13 -- I wish they would hurry up and release them through December so I know how to plan my budget.... :confused3

Don't they know we're itching to see the Mouse!!!!! :cool1:

I hope you have better fares than I do for Jersey Week in early November. The best Spirit had from ACY was just under $500. Yes, $500. I ended up booking AirTran outta PHL for $270 -- high, but the lowest available on any airline at the times we wanted -- the lowest we saw at all even with flexible dates, was $232.

Spirit's airfares are all over the place. You have to keep an eye on them. Before I found the $136 RT, they were closer to $300 each for a ticket.
