We have just returned from 7 days at the GF. I have stayed at the WL, POly, Contemporary, and the Yacht Club. I like them all for different reasons but the GF is truely the most opulent of them all.
ON THE RESORT: The GF is beautifully appointed and impeccably kept. A Cm there told me that they spend $65,000.00 a year in just the flower arrangemnets. Transportation from there is easy as it is connected to the monorail loop.
ON CONCIERGE LEVEL: We stayed in room 4422 (after reading about it on these boards). It was a beautiful room with a great view, and very roomy too. It was a short walk to the lounge(literally maybe40 steps?) where all manner of snacks and drinks were served. These wqere served 5 times a day beginning at 6:00 every morning.
ON HOUSEKEEPING: I tipped the maid $8.00 every day and our room was clean each day when we returned from the parks.I put a small snack cracker underneath the sofa ( I always do this) just to see if she would pick it up. She never did. Im sure it was hard to see unless you got down on your knees. She never made "towel animals" (I've had them before at other resorts). This didnt have any bearing whatsoever on our stay there.
ON TURN DOWN SERVICE: My only complaint is that she came too early - at 5:45 each evening. I always felt compelled to leave the room when she arrived so she could do her thing. I tipped her $3.00 a day.
ON ALLIGATORS: we saw 4 of them the largest being a 5 footer, right of the beach from the back of the resort.
In short our stay there was wondeful. After reading these boards lately, I was a little apprehensive. These boards are a plethora of information and a wonderful resource, and I have learned a lot since my 1st trip there in '89. Even for the price, I would reccomend the RPC without hesitation. My only real regret: now that I've stayed there, in that particular room, how can I ever stay anywhere else?

Glad to hear you enjoyed it, we will be at GF RPC in a few short days. This is our first trip staying at the GF. Any Advice?

What is RPC? Sorry, I can't figure it out.

Also, what specifically was there to Eat in the lounge? I'm not usually interested in Concierge or Club Level rooms because its usually just alot of alcohol and never very good snacks.

You made it sound so good, I've never been enticed by that resort before, but now I'll have to think about it.

Cali D -
yes I did take some pictures of the room, Ill have them up shortly. My only advice is to take what negative things you may hear on these baords and temper them with a little common sense as they might apply to you. I have a lot of friends who ask: why do you always go back to WDW, why not change it up? I maintain that you get what you want to out of WDW, to get the magic you have to meet it halfway.
RPC - Royal Palm Club, which is a level of Concierge service only found in the main building in the GF.
The food changed a little every day. There were mussells covered in a mild salsa, a staemed chicken roll w/pistachios for lunch, fruit and pastry for brkfst, petifores and liquors for the late evening. the food is served almost non stop. We normally spend $20. to $30 each morning for brkfst. This year we never bought it!

Mickymark, it sounds like you had a lovely stay. Your post about the alligators intrigued me -- I hope you got some photos of them to post so that I may be scared out of my wits when viewing them! ;)

We stayed in 4422 in May and loved it, too! It is a great room, and we loved the view. Did you see the fireworks from Epcot? How was the service that you received from the RPC CMs? We were pretty unimpressed with the service, but loved the room and the resort.

I'm glad you had a nice stay!!

Wow! You saw 4 gators!! How cool. I have yet to see one on my WDW trips!:D

Hello and Welcome Back fellow Disney traveler!

I have a few questions for you.
First, what is the view from room 4422? MK? POOL? Garden?
Secondly, How was the RPC staff? Were they polite and most of all were they friendly? We leave in just 12 short days and are staying in the RPC too. We have read so many poor comments regarding the RPC recently that we are seriously considering changing to another concierge hotel. What we are looking for is the magic.......you know the friendly, warm, smiling, outgoing cast members that make you feel like this is the best place on earth.
Would you stay in the RPC again? Did you have any problems/issues with the RPC AND view, what was it? We are dying to know!

Thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!

We stayed in 4422. It is a deluxe room, more expensive (maybe $25 - 50/night) and much bigger than a standard room in the main building. The view is lagoon, and it overlooks the new pool, the Poly, wedding pavillion, etc. Basically the view starts at the end of the Contemporary and runs all the way to the monorail station at the GF. We enjoyed watching the Epcot fireworks, Poly luau and the water parade at the Poly from our huge balcony. It is a great room!

From a fellow RPC-lover, welcome back, and glad you enjoyed! :) We're lovers of our room(s) - 4023-4025... we get the same suite each time we go, and we feel the same way as you... it's just the best of the best. :)

And say hi to Patty and Lauretta in the concierge (food service) , they are THE BEST. :)

Im sorry if it took a little time to answer any questions. The staff at the RPC was very freindly and I was very comfortable with them. As someone already posted - the view was of 7 seas lagoon, the Poly, etc.. I could see the Water Pageant every night ( from my balcony), but I had to go out into the lounge to see the MK fireworks. This was about 25 steps from my door. For my family of four it was an additional $7 a night to stya in a Deluxe Concierge room. Hats off to Cali D and her website for informing me that there wa a Deluxe! Yes I got video tape of the largest of the gators. It actually was about 10 feet from shore, swimming parallel to it and I saw it fro my balcony. It was about 6:45 am and I snatched up my camera and went downstairs to find it. I saw it again from Narcoossies porch. The other ones I saw were in the MK,2 there( Down off the footbridge by Tom Sawyers) and another one walking along the grass towards a canal while I was riding a bus to Typhoon lagoon.

Glad you had such a great time @ the Grand! And you stayed in my favorite Deluxe Concierge room too! :D

I'm surprised to read that someone told you it was $65K on flowers, because *I* thought I remembered hearing that it was actually around a million a year! Maybe that included maintenance, replanting, etc of the flowers outside as well....

Sorry you didn't have a perfect experience with housekeeping - I've never had a problem with them.

I can't believe you saw gators!! I don't mean I don't believe what you're saying! LOL I just mean that I'm glad *I've* never seen 'em! :o

To clarify, Judy, I found nothing wrong at all with housekeeping. And the CM I talked with was in charge ( she and three others) of indoor floral arraingements only. And We did have a wonderful time - so much so that Im already planning a trip to the same room next year.

Hi Mickeymark! I am also a fellow New Jerseyan who loves disney! Could you tell me what rate you had and if there was any discount applicable? Thanks, Carolyn

hi, mickeymark. i'm assuming your room location was near the lounge, therefore above the lobby area. did the noise from the band disturb you in the evening? do think is would be quiet enough to take an afternoon nap? any noise filter in from the outside area? thanks

one more question, please. was your room always cool enough? did the air conditioner have one of those motion sensors the people on these boards have been complaining about? i'd hate to pay gf rates and have to hang a hanger and towel contraption up on the fan to keep cool at night!

As for the rate - I must confess I got an employee discount of 50% off of the room. The band was excellent and never too noisy, in fact they even took requests and played what else - Disney Music.
The room was quite warm when we checked in. It was set to stay around 76 when there was no one in the room. This was too warm for me so I called and a very cheery man came up right away and showed me how to over ride the system, but to answer directly, yes there was a motion sensor, and before the over ride it got pretty warm at night.

Welcome back MickeyMark, I thought our trip to the RPC would be overlapping. We were there from 7/27-8/3 and had the most magical stay. Our room was 4404 and the castle was dead center to our balcony. I'm sorry we missed the gators, I was looking for them too! We were very lucky with our room, our thermostat got all the way down to 61 and my daughter was complaining that dad kept the room like a meat locker each night. Our only complaint was the Cafe closed at 3pm each day. That was our favorite dinner spot. For counter service though, Gasparilla's food was quite tasty. I loved unwinding at night listening to the band and sipping my coffee laced with Baileys. I'm missing it already.

Tammi
