We just returned to a cloudy, rainy Detroit, following a glorious week (our first trip home) at BCV's. Here's a bit of a rundown of the week to give everyone an idea of our trip:

My parents arrived last Friday before us (around 11 a.m.) and there were no rooms available yet. We arrived at about 2 and still no rooms ready. We were told that we were on the first floor but they could not tell us which room. And they would not let you make any switches. It looked pretty busy so that was understandable. I checked back at 3 p.m. and our room was ready. It was room 168 (a dedicated 2 br)...walked right out to the canal with the quiet pool to our left. Location was great! Just a short walk to our rental car in the parking lot and every morning, our kids, ages 3 and 5, could walk out the door and feed the turtles and alligator! That was one of their highlights!

Couple problems when we first arrived and I attribute some of it to what sounds like a recurring housekeeping problem. The room had been cleaned but if you're a "clean" freak of sorts, there were things that might have bothered you, as they did me. The floors in bathrooms and kitchen were still dirty and sticky and obviously overlooked by housekeeping. my mom and I spent some time on our hands and knees scrubbing them to our comfort level. I'm also a bit shocked at how much abuse these rooms have taken in just one year! I get the feeling people just don't take care for their home away from home the way they should! Lots of knicks in the walls and furniture, spills on the fabric and carpeting, etc....it's really a shame! We also had to have some lightbulbs replaced and as well as burners on the stove fixed.

The other problem had to to do with our groceries. We went shopping, pulled up to valet and asked if they could deliver our groceries to our room (I heard they would bring our groceries right to us). "Sure, no problem," was the answer. Well, half an hour later, still no groceries. I walked over with my husband and dad and our groceries were all still sitting there outside with about 6 bellhops just standing around! And no one had an good explanation! So the guys hauled the groceries to our room while I went right over to the front desk, asked for a manager and explained our problems. He was very cordial about it all and had another manager call us later in our room so that we could explain our dissatisfactions. They promised us they would definitely look into it all and I believe they will. I do think though, that if no one complains, things can get a bit lax.

But now, the good stuff:

parks were great...crowded but not overly. We never really waited in any long lines. All of the 3-d shows were great! As was the Disney's Playhouse show at MGM for younger kids!

Restaurants were good..we ate at:

Olive Garden off property the first night (actually, very good and reasonable)
Gullivers at the Swan (very good and as DVC members, a 20% discount!)
Flying Fish (very good but a bit expensive)
Narcoosee's at the Grand Floridian (very good but very expensive, however well worth the splurge! Also we were able to watch the fireworks at MK from our table. Oh and you do get a 10% discount here)
Sushi Bar at Epcot in Japan (very good)
Rainforest Cafe at AK (good and a 10% discount)

Caught some of the booths at the Food and Wine festival as well and that was very good and lots of fun!

All in all, it was a very good trip! Never heard "Welcome Home" from anyone, but that certainly didn't dampen our enthusiasm. BVC is a very nice resort and with a bit better housekeeping, I give it a solid "A"!

I'd be glad to answer any questions

Deb

Sounds like you had a good time. When you notified the management about the delivery problem did you also notify them of the dirty floors? What was their response? I do not feel I should have to get on my hands and knees to clean floors that I did not make dirty. I did in the master bathroom the last time we were at the BCV and I was not happy to have to clean a dirty floor. I notified the front desk after I had done it because we wanted to get to the park and we didn't want to wait for housekeeping to come. However, if this ever happens again I will call and have them reclean the floors before I ever do it myself again. I don't mind cleaning the floors if my family made the mess but not for someone else's mess.

Thanks for the report.:D

Deb,

Welcome back to the Detroit area. The weather sure isn't great to come home to, is it?

Thanks for your trip report. I am heading down to the BCVs again in a few weeks and I will be one of those members that wants a clean room when I check in.

I am glad that you had great weather and a good time!

Hi Wilderness01,

Actually, I did explain about the dirty floors and they did tell me to "not do it myself" and to call them immediately and they would send someone asap to fix the problem.

In retrospect, I agree, I wish I didn't have to clean a floor that I didn't make dirty and we should have called them right away. But I felt like I didn't want housekeeping coming through again after we had already gotten settled. I'm with you, next time, I'll let them fix the problems.

thanks for the response!

Deb

Hi Pin, and fellow Michigander,

Definitely hard to take this weather, but I'm glad the holidays are on the way to keep us occupied : )

When you get down there, make sure to go to the front desk immediately if something "isn't right". I get the feeling they want to do it right and they want to be told if it ISN'T done right the first time.

Thanks for the response,

Deb

When I stayed at the BWV in August, I went food shopping and had my groceries brought up to the room. I stopped in the gift shop in the lobby for something and my groceries beat me to the room!!!!

A couple little bumps in the road, but great trip! Thank you for the report!:) Remember that great Fl. weather when it gets gloomy in Detroit this winter. That's what I try to do in NH to make the long winter bearable!:teeth:

Hi,

Great trip report!!! Can't wait to go!!!

Allison an associate

Thanks for your report. We were there at the same time, and my trip report posted a similar experience in that the room we were first given was a bit beat up and worse for wear, including a dirty sofa. I guess we were spoiled by visiting within the first year. But our second room was much better, and we still love BCV!

BTW - did you hear about the fire at Yachtsman Steakhouse? Do you know any details? I know it wasn't serious, since it was up-and-running the next day, but I was curious...

What was in your second bedroom-2 Queens or a queen and a sofa? I would love a room where we could feed the ducks and see the alligator. So, you were in room 168. Now if I could find that Map that Doc had up a while ago, I could see what side of the resort the canal is actually on.

I can't understand how, #1, anyone could leave a unit in such a shape that the floors would be sticky. When we leave, we make sure that the place is as clean as it was when we got there, except for trash, etc. #2, How can housekeeping overlook something like this? This is our investment. If housekeeping doesn't do their job, we need to let someone know. Last time we where there, we had to sweep the entire balcony beacuse of many dead bugs and we had to wash the outside furniture.:(

we had a queen bed and a sofabed. The kids slept on the sofabed, we had the queen bed and I treated my parents to the master bedroom with the jacuzzi and walkin shower. I figured we'd have plenty of chances over the years to get that bedroom: )

Room 168 walks right out to the canal and when you walked a few steps to your left, you were right at the pool. That was nice. We had three separate patios out of our doorwalls. The only downside to being on the first floor is you can't really open your doorwalls and leave them open like you can on a balcony because you'd get the little lizards and other creatures coming into your room. Although my daughter would have loved that!

We were even visited by a little wild rabbit that came right up to our patio door. He seemed very unafraid of us.

Also right down the walk to our right, was our parking lot but it was far enough away so that you didn't hear any traffic noise.

I wasn't sure where I wanted our room to be but I have to say, I was very happy with the location.

Cheyita, I didn't hear about the fire at the Yachtsman! Gosh, they sure kept it quiet because I never saw anything out of the ordinary!

Thanks for your replies!

Deb

Thanks for the report! Glad you had a good time.

And thanks for reporting the problems you encountered. If everyone did that, I think we would see a lot less problems reported here. Disney can't fix problems they don't know about and I think we members have a responsibility to ourselves and each other to report things that we know are not right! So THANK YOU!

I'm seriously thinking about writing a letter to someone "at the top" to let them know what we encountered...not sure who that would be or how to contact them. I'll have to do some research. But I agree, if no one reports these problems, they won't go away, only get worse.

We loved the BCV's and I'd hate to see them deteriorate. I mean, we do pay a maintenance fee...that means I want to see the place maintained.

The guide I talked with at the models at BWV suggested that I contact my vacation club guide and let him know. But I haven't heard from him since we signed the paperwork last February so I'm not sure that would do any good.

pnelson--The canal runs right under the BCV on the north end of the wing closest to the parking lot.
