Just got back from a one week trip. Boy, was it hot, but still great.
They sent some Disney cruise line buses to get the early am crowds from the resort to the park, which was pretty cool, especially since we got to watch Big Hero on the way to the park. However, always one bad apple. A mother came to the bus door and lambasted the driver for not letting her wheelchair bound son on the bus first. I did not clearly hear his response as he was keeping his voice at a low pitch, but I assume he told her that this particular bus does not have the ability to lower its hydraulics to the low curb at the resort, and he was sorry. This did not sit well with her. She was then screaming out about what if her son was going on a cruise with Disney, would he still not be able to get on the bus? As the bus pulled away, she was still being very hostile to the coordinator at the bus stop. Wonder if she has filed the lawsuit yet.

A whole week's trip, and this is what you post about. Walk a mile in that lady's shoes, who is pushing her son, who is unable to walk. Maybe they had a character breakfast ADR, which is now about to go up in flames. Why on earth would Disney send buses that can't accommodate the handicapped? I know you don't feel her pain, but it was painful for that family, none-the-less.

If her son was going on a cruise she would notify Disney of her son's needs so they could send a HA bus. Same goes for DME. But in this case, at a Disney Resort, there's no special request necessary. WDW's entire fleet is HA. Sending a Cruise Line bus to a resort AM EMH pick-up was a crap-shoot on Disney's part. I'm sure hoping the bus coordinator called for another bus for the lady and her child. I disagree that the lady was a bad apple.

I believe the key word is "screaming". She is a "bad apple" if she screams at the driver and the coordinator. She has a valid reason for request and I'm sure the coordinator would call for a HA bus for the family. However, screaming..... I also disagree with that it was a crap-shoot on Disney's part for sending a non-HA bus to lessen the wait at for the AM rush. If I'm waiting for a long time for a theme park bus in the morning, I am happy for whatever coming to the bus stop. Anyone can have AM ADRs as well, so the extra Disney Cruise can help the other people get to the park for their ADRs.

I'm glad you're willing to take whatever transport comes to the bus stop. I can't walk so I use a scooter. I am unable to take whatever comes along. I would make special arrangements if told they were necessary, but no special arrangements are offered at WDW. Everyone has a different life experience.

Sorry, stI'll no excuse. Being tired, exhausted or frustrated doesn't give you the right to scream at someone else and treat them that way, especially when it was out of his hands. Have I had my share of frustrating and exasperating moments with my two special needs kids? Yes. Have I ever yelled at someone like that because of my bad day? No.

Right message, wrong receipient. Do people think the bus drivers designed the bus, made the policy? I don't blame the woman for being upset but it is assinine to yell at the bus driver who had nothing to do with it. Once the bus driver calmly told the woman why then she should have contacted Disney directly, not yell at this poor bus driver. Yes she has the right to be upset but getting mad at the wrong person doesn't help anything!

Agreed. Screaming at the bus driver and/or the coordinator will not magically change the bus to HA.

I typed up a reply and never posted it but have taken a little time to think about it.

First off, I agree with many here, there is never a right or privilege to yell at the employees because a solution to a problem could not serve everyone. The mother was out of place with how she displayed her frustration and anger. That said, I lost my head before too.

But...it does seem a bit schadenfreude to run back to share the juicy details of one, short interaction/observance of a frustrated park patron. Maybe she eventually regained her composure, maybe she'll always be rotten to the core, we don't know. I prefer to save the juicy threads for those families who prove time and time again how lazy and spoiled they are around me in the parks.

(P.S., I hate dealing with the buses at WDW. If I can avoid them, I do.)

:thumbsup2

And, too, I'm wondering what Theme Park Strategy I can glean from this ...

Don't yell at bus drivers? Don't rely on Disney transportation? ;)
