Arrived in Orlando 9/21 checked into AKL 9/25, day before Jeanne.

The resort was incredible I still can't believe how wonderfully we were treated during Jeanne. The resort was so safe and sound, if we didn't look outside we couldn't even tell there was a hurricane, slept soundly right through the night.

Boma and Jiko remained open the entire time, Mara closed when it was really bad but reopened by the afternoon. They had movies playing on 3 different channels which was great, 3 or 4 on each one, lots of choices. Coloring in the lobby for the kids plus the characters and a band provided a lively atmosphere, they also had exihibts set up. EVERYONE in the staff were so calm and reassuring, it was really amazing.

We booked a Pool view and that's what we recieved, we were right off Zebra Trail, 2nd door down from the elevators, tucked into the corner of the resort on the lobby level.

It was a wonderful stay and I thought Disney and the AKL did an exceptional, top notch, job during the hurricane.

We checked into the VWL afterwards, I'll post a review at the DVC board.

Palmtreegirl,

Thanks so much for the post... we're almost there now, and I can't wait! I've been reading all I can about the resort so that it will feel "familiar" when we arrive. We've only been there once, to eat at Boma and walk around the lobby and Arusha Rock for a little tour.

Thanks for sharing a little of your trip with us!

Thanks for the info. Heading to AKL DEC 11-18. Never been to this resort. How was the transportation? Did you have to wait long for bus? I've read mixed reviews.

Any info about your stay at the lodge will be helpful.

We never waited more then 10 minutes for a bus to arrive and there were always seats available since the resort doesn't share it's bus service.

Make sure and go down to the Arusha Rock animal look out spot at night, they have night vision binoculars and it's really cool, look up and you may see a shooting star!

It's a beautiful resort, have a great trip!

I was a little disappointed witht the buses. We had several 15-20 minute waits for buses. Just bad timing I guess, but we have never waited that long before on other trips to CSR and ASMo. But that is my only complaint. Everything else was pure heaven!
