We last cruised a year ago on the Disney Fantasy before the dry dock. Just wanted to share some notes about logistics and some differences I noticed on the first day.

Dcl transfers at MCO, now uses characters to organize groups by bus for check in as you arrive. Got there at 7:30am. among first to get pass for the first bus. At 8am, they were still handing out for the first bus, but that quickly transitioned to other busses after that. Saw concierge line at check in as well but didn't notice anyone taking advantage of it.
A woman at the dcl transfers desk was able to confirm that all of our luggage that we had labeled pre flight for the cruise was headed for the ship.

At about 8:50 the first bus had arrived and the check in process for the bus began and they called for groups with Captain Hook to get in line. Huge improvement over the past process where they tried to not have anyone stand in line until the first bus arrived, but still let people line up starting at 8:45 even if the bus didn't arrive until much later. Last year there was additional delay due to fog before the first bus arrived so we we're standing a good long time.

First bus got us to the port at about 10:05am and we were the first to enter the terminal.

My husband had trouble getting through security at the port due to his Nintendo switch. They thought it was a Nintendo Wii which they disallow on the ship as they don't want people to try to configure cables into the state room TV. Husband had to explain and confirm with the supervisor that the switch is a fully portable console and did not need to hook up to the TV. They allowed him to bring it on.

At check-in, they gave us the kids club bands since we had already done online check in. Did not need to go to the separate kids club check-in in the terminal in order to get the bands, although it was available for those who had not done online check-in. This was a nice improvement over last year.

Mickey came out for pictures at 10:45am in front of the model ship. One of the cast members mentioned he typically comes out at 10:45am or 11am. There were people who started standing in line for him at about 10:30am.

We were in group 3, PAT of 10:30am, got onto the ship at 11:35.

Waited in line at guest services for the gingerbread house tickets. Options were for the Thursday, sea day at 8:30, 10:30, and 11:30am in Animators Palate.

I didn't notice Coke zero in any of the soda dispensers except on Castaway Cay. It was available, in a can, for an additional charge, about $2, from the bars.

I also wanted to highlight Joaquin who was one of the shutters photographers. On the first night, he was doing casual photos in front of the white background. We went after dinner and the show and there was no line. He ended up being our favorite photographer the whole trip. He spent about 10-15 minutes with us, going through different poses. It felt like a private session and they we're some of the best family pictures we've ever had. He was excellent with the kids and checked whether the picture came out after each one, whether everyone had their eyes open and when one of the flashes wasn't working, fixed it and asked if we wanted to retake those poses because the lighting wasn't right. The pictures he took were some of the best.

Another nice change was to the on board booking line waiting. You can tap your card to get in a virtual line and they'll buzz you on the wave phone when you're next in line. They have your place in line displayed prominently on a screen in the area as well.

Happy to answer any questions and I hope these notes are helpful for someone.

We were on the same cruise and had a great time. I had just a couple of quick additions to the above great notes:

We were boarding group 7 and were onboard less than 6 minutes after the family of the day was called. They flew through those first numbers.

The line at GS was already packed, but I took a chance and went up to Port Adventures and was behind only 1 person to book the gingerbread house. The officer there didn’t know they could book it, but the CM Manning the desk said as long as we knew room numbers we could sign up. Saved probably 30-60 minutes.

There weren’t any sign ups/tickets for Star Wars premEAR. There were 2 showings opening night in both the WD theater and Buenna Vista and folks lined up and went in. My husband got in line 30 minutes before the 10:30 showing and got great seats in WD. Some people stood in line for an hour and for some reason Buena Vistas line was much longer.

Speaking of lines- noticed this more than usual this time. People would line up for everything. They saw a line and joined it, the longer the better. For example bingo sales would have a line with 20 people in it while the 2 bingo stations on the other side had no one. A line of 50 people started for the club the first day, but no one was over at the lab entrance. Photo lines got weird like that too. My advice is to maybe look around for other lines if you’re in a long one.

Echo the above about shutters. In the past we’ve been blah on them, but Claudia got us AMAZING pictures on the white background. I’ve canceled our family photo session we had for next month because the pictures on the ship came out that well. This was just the line in the lobby, not the special package.

Tianna was the best princess ever. She was so approachable and genuinely joyful on our trip. She asked to hold our baby during the princess gathering and we have some amazing pictures of them cuddling and Tianna was more thrilled than we were by the whole time.

My only real complaint is that I think they should have had more Santa appearances. We saw him on the second sea day and stood in line for 93 minutes (yep I timed it) and had gotten in line 30 minutes early even. It’s a very slow moving line (with good reason since Santa talks to all the kids) but there were a lot of grumbling people in the line. Last year on the Wonder Santa was out at least twice as much than this cruise (and this is for the scheduled meet times not the parties where he just waves). If you waited until the scheduled time for my session the line would already be closed- and the woman in front of me told me the same thing had happened to her on the previous meeting time. Sooo just be aware that you should set aside a little more time and get in line early.

I was on the same cruise. We had boarding number 6, checked in and got on the ship pretty quickly after our shuttle bus from the rental car place arrived. I went to GS and signed up for the Gingerbread House (I had to go to GS anyways to add gift cards to our account), but totally forgot and overslept the morning we were scheduled!! Oh well, my kids weren't really into it anyway, it was more me that wanted to do it.

We were one of the ones standing in line for the BVT for SW:TLJ. We skipped dinner that night to go to the first showing (since we were late seating we had to go to the late showing unless we skipped dinner). But the theater didn't even fill up, and a very tall man sat right in front of my 10 year old right before the movie started, so we just moved to the front row, which ended up being great seats. Saw it again on the last night in the WDT, but I could swear the app said it was 3D, but by the time I went to the show it was in 2d and that is what the app said.

We had a fantastic time, the service was excellent as usual. I was a little nervous when our server told us that she had just been promoted from assistant server at the last minute and this was her first cruise as a server!! But she did a great job, as did our room steward, assistant server and head server. Food was great at dinner. We ate one night at Cabanas and that was good too. I really love the Flo's V8 cafe (Luigi's, Towmater's, etc) and Cabanas at lunch and breakfast, but we also ate a Royal Court a couple times. I love how great the staff at Flo's was in getting GF pizza and chicken nuggets, all of which were awesome!! Didn't eat at Palo or Remy's as my husband wasn't with me and I didn't think I would enjoy paying extra to eat alone.

Did a mixology and the chocolate and liquor tasting and even though I had done them both multiple times, the bartenders still always find a way to make it fun and interesting. The bartenders were all great, especially at Skyline - did the passport again, which is a great deal and I love!

Shopping was a little disappointing. I usually buy a purse on the cruise, but the one I wanted sold out by they 2nd day, so instead I bought jewelry. The didn't have (IMHO) a great selection of Star Wars themed shirts for adults. The staff was great though, and I still managed to spend way too much on merchandise, so maybe it is good for me that there wasn't more I wanted to buy!!

The cruise staff was so much fun! I did a lot of trivia and went to a few of the adult/night shows in the Tube. Tony was hilarious!! Buckets and Boards were a lot of fun and my kids loved seeing them too. It was nice to see Aladdin again. On Friday, while I was in the room packing, my son said there were storm troopers on the pool deck, but unfortunately I missed them!! We did see a rehearsal for the show for the SWDAS cruise one night on the pool deck.

This was our second time on the Fantasy, and although the Magic has a special place in my heart, the Fantasy is probably the most beautiful cruise ship - not just with DCL but in the world!

Our stop at Grand Caymen was cancelled - due to high winds complicating the tendering I guess. But we weren't planning on getting off there - in fact, I didn't get off anywhere. My older son got off at CC for about an hour for a basketball tournament, but that was it. And honestly, I was so "busy" I still didn't fit everything in I would have liked to do! I would have liked to play more mini-golf and ping pong and done some more mid-ship detective agency and spent more time in the Rainforest.

The app was really handy to communicate with my boys, but unfortunately I didn't bring shorts or pants with deep enough pockets for my younger son as he lost his phone TWICE! Fortunately someone turned it in to GS each time, but I had several hours of anxiety imagining someone taking the phone out of airplane mode and making very expensive phone calls. I wish they sold a lanyard that would hold a phone...

The cruise was everything I had hoped for and we had a great time. We met so many great people on board - we ran into a family not just from our hometown, but their daughter is in my son's homeroom class was actually on the cruise (cue "It's a Small World" song!).

There are such creatures... one example:

https://loksak.myshopify.com/collections/aloksak/products/aloksak-19

Bonus is they also protect the phone from water. We have had good success with Loksak, though there are other brands. There are also various non-waterproof similar things by other manufacturers.

Aquapak is another brand we have had good success with: https://aquapac.net/store/product-category/waterproof-phone-cases/ Their US store is at: https://aquapacusa.com/shop/

Sorry you couldn't port at Grand Cayman. We were on the cruise the week before you and enjoyed Cayman the best of the non-Castaway Cay ports.

That would have been perfect for my son as he spent about 5 hours each day in the pool!
