We just got back from CR and (attempted) to checked in at 12:30pm (I requested early check in), was told that I could have a room then but it had none of my reqests, so I asked the CM if we could get a first floor north wing, she checked and found one for us but it was not ready so we choose to wait. Was told it would be about 3pm. Kept calling at 3pm, not ready, at 3:30pm not ready, 4pm, 4:30pm, 5pm finally at 5:30pm I went back (was at MK) and said ok this is rather ridicilous, the CM agreed and unassigned a diff room (turned out to be a better room anyway) and assigned it to us. But come on 5:30pm and it STILL wasn't ready??

The resort itself was not that great, very cold and unimpressive. DH loved it as it was on the Monorail line, DS liked it as well but they both agreed after touring some of the other hotels, that it will be Poly for sure next time. Bus service was fairly easy, buses came fast.

I would never recommend the CR to anyone, besides the check in problem, our mousekeeping didnt always leave new tolitries AND we requested late check out (was told ok 1pm), we went to the MK and came back and the maid was almost done with our room! She had bagged up everything we did not pack by noon. We said wait a second we were told 1pm (we were going to lay around in the room for an hour) and she couldnt speak english so we were frustrated and just left.

Let me point out that I am the kind of person who things like this bother greatly, however this being our first WDW trip I was determined not to let these things bother me, and they didn't. The parks were great, nice and empty and our room turned out to be great, upgraded water view, where we could sit on our patio overlooking a small beach and the water. But I never would stay at the CR again, its ease was not worth the atmosphere.

Also, just an fyi, we asked just on a whim if there were any paid upgrades to a tower room and was told that there never are upgrades to tower rooms as they are a convention hotel and book all their rooms. Was kinda disapointed in this, I didn't realize that half the rooms would be earmarked for conventioneers.

Questions anyone about the resort?

I'm sorry you didn't like the hotel. My family was there in October and we loved it! We transfered from the ASMu and were in our new room by 11 a.m. We had requested 2 first floor adjoining rooms in the North Garden Wing and had 2 of our 3 requests met. Which, as we were there so early, I thought was great!

As it was your first trip to Disney maybe you don't realize that they do not guarantee any room requests will be met. They are just requests. It is frustrating when you check in and do not have exactly what you wanted (believe me I have been there!) But remember things could be worse! You are in Disney World! :jumping1:

Never stayed there and really don't have the desire to ever stay there, Epcot resorts are my choice of a place to stay and the tops in BWI! :D

We had no problems. We really liked the CR and the ability to walk home after a long day at MK, and avoid those horrible buses!

Oh no, I know they are requests I have stayed in hotels before LOL. What bothered me is that by 5:30pm my room was still not ready, When they state the check in time is 3pm I realize it may not be EXACTLY ready at 3pm, but close would seem normal. at 3:30pm they told me the rooms are not guaranteed until 4pm to 5pm, yet at 5:30pm they still said well sorry nothing is guaranteed! ugh

CR has never really appealed to me either. The "cold and unimpressive " thought really si what my opinion has been. That was just my opinion though and other love it. Just not for me. I do hope that since this was the first trip for you guys that you will not be hesitant on going again. It would be a shame if you never returned because of the experience here.

I really liked our stay at CR. But, I'm the only one in my family that does. I love being close to my favorite park. I don't need the themeing and actually like getting away from it while at the resort. I find it more relaxing it. My favorite part is when MK closes and the mob of people head to the buses and monorail, then you can just turn and take a nice stroll to the CR.

I agree about not being upgraded. I think those are few and far apart. During our stay, our room was not a smoke free room as requested (for medical reasons), so they changed our room. Then the next one was a "smoke-free" but the last neighbors didn't see that sign. So after wanting to air our room out, they changed our room for the third time. The last time was OK with us--parking lot view. Each time I thought, maybe they'll upgrade us to tower, no way. We saw alot of the South Wing that day, but didn't let it put a damper on our trip. We love the size of the room and having the marina and the quick boat rides over to WL and Ft.WL for meals. I love having all of the meal options of three resorts.

CR is not for everybody. The 5:30 availability is baloney:mad: The thing about CR is that it is so "Walt". The idea that the monorail goes through the building and the modular construction is typical of the kinds of ideas Disney was pioneering in the late 60s. Unfortunately, nearly 40 years later some of that translates as cold and dated. We enjoy California Grill, and the Concourse Steakhouse. Many would appreciate Chef Mickey's. The shops at the resort are some of the best on property. Then there's the "walk" to MK:earsboy:

we loved the cr i am so sorry you had suvch a bad expierence especially being your first trip to disney. If you ever decided to try it again i would suggest you go for the tower room i have read many not so great stories about the cr and they are usually always in the wing rooms. we stayed on the 12th floor tower club and had one of the best stays at a hotel ever from check in to check out. hopefully some day you will give it another try.

We prefer ALL the monorail (magic kingdom) resorts BUT the same thing waiting for the room for several extra hours has happened to us at the POLY. If you have special request, resorts usually will ask do you want this room now or a room with your request? Cause that requested room is gonna be a wait. And expect to wait. The resorts seem not to push through these room assignments as far as getting them ready for some reason. :earseek:

Now, as far as we are concerned we prefer to wait, and expect to wait. I will be much happier in the long run to get what I want. ::yes:: ::MickeyMo from the start. :hyper: So no biggie, just expect it, make plans to be busy at that time, don't think about "getting into the room". And have a great day doing something else till about 6pm, then call and I bet its ready. :smooth:

Wow, I'm sorry you had such a bad stay! We checked in on the 12th right at the start of Super Soap weekend but we got our 1st floor north wing room, they cleaned it special due to my asthma and it was so thorough that i didn't have to use my inhaler once! It was miraculous! Houskeeping was so attentive and left us towel animals every single day (course we tip good I think that helps!) our room was done at 2pm and aside from requesting a newer shower curtain, everything was literally squeaky clean and our beds were so soft and heavenly.

We had a magical stay, I'm sorry that it didn't work out the same for you! We made it a point to greet every housekeeper we saw at the resort and never found one who didn't speak any english. Maybe your housekeeper was new?

Write to let the resort know of your disappointments then they can try to make things better for future guests.

On another note, the pharmaceutical conventioneers drove us NUTS. They were SO RUDE! One guy almost made the sweet lady at the coffee bar cry. I wanted to smack him! I hate the business-like atmosphere that the resort takes on when a big convention is there. It happened to us last year at the Grand too, and we were staying in Royal Palm Concierge. Both were big pharmaceutical conventions and the people were just nasty :(

Hope your next trip to WDW is better! :)

I am sorry you didn't like the CR. It is my 3 kids FAVORITE resort. We have stayed at almost all of the deluxes and the CR has been the best for us - CMs, mousekeeping, restaurants, shops, convenience to MK, transportation, the fun arcade - and the view!!!We enjoy the bustling atmosphere as we are from a small town. I feel like I am just in the middle of the magic, really.

It is funny how people can have such differing service. We stayed at the Poly in August and had a very disappointing time. It was lagoon view, concierge. I feel like I wasted a lot of money on that stay. :(
Our room was not ready until after 5:30pm as well. We were melting in the 90 degree heat and really wanted to get into our room! I guess that isn't all that unusual. I know many people love the Poly, but our stay was less than magical there.

We are headed back to the CR for three nights after a stay at the GF for Thanksgiving. We could have stayed anywhere, but the CR is just IT for us!

Good luck next time with whichever resort you choose!!

The 5:30 check in time is unacceptable for any hotel, especially if it is promoted as 3:00. If I had experienced that late of a check in at any hotel I would be furious, especially Disney, requests or not. You are defintely justified in being unhappy with the situation. I hope you contact Disney and let them know so that they can fix the problem. ::yes::

We stayed at the CR in June/July. Our only complaint was the maid....she was deplorable! Our room was not cleaned for *2* days and when she did bother to clean it, it was after 5:00p.m.

We were not happy campers and the head of house keeping could only say "she was new" as a defense! I definitely think they should get someone who can speak english!

I have to agree with your entire post. We had a disappointing stay there last January. Not a very well-kept resort, IMO, and we were in the tower! I do love its location and Chef Mickey's, but everything else leaves something to be desired. I think it could be a fabulous resort if they remodeled the lobby and Food-n-Fun center area.

You will love the Poly on your next stay. It's our favorite!

Just got back last night from CR and had a TOTALLY different experience.

Arrived at 9:00am and not only was my room ready, but when I asked about being upgraded, I was in the tower/MK side. ( I had booked a wing/standard ). The front desk was friendly, and the elevators were FAST!( I was concerned because last week I heard they had been getting stuck) I am not crazy about the decor, but I got over it...I had been at the CR before and although my first love is the WL, I was very happy.

I did have a problem with Mousekeeping. She didn't wipe the counters down very well ( they had talc on them) and never replaced our soaps with new ones but I think that maybe this is the way of cutting back. At WL, everyday you get new soaps and shampoos ( which I always thought was a waste...the bars were hardly used up ). She also didn't get fresh glasses. She left them where ever we had set them and didn't empty the water in the ice bucket. But really...not a huge deal to me.

I had requested turn down service which I usually tip very well for, but both nights she came at 10pm when we were already in for the night. WL turn down has always been done while we were at dinner. Again...no big deal...I was so happy with my room, I wouldn't have complained if a big bug had crawled across the floor!!! !LOL!!!

We stayed at CR wing room in Sept. 2003. For me it was two trips in one, first and last. It was cold and hotel like. The only other time I stayed on site was at CB and I loved it.
Now DH and MIL keep telling me that it is not the same and one time we will have to stay in the tower but I would have to get a great AP rate for that.

i have never had the slightest desire to stay at cr...nice place to visit...very retro-disney.

very overpriced$$$ for the atmosphere

i agree with poly...i'd rather drop the big $$ there

as for me it is and always will be AKL!!!!!!

This is all very intersting to me. We are in a wing room in December. Any views on which wing to request? What are the advantages of north over south or vice/versa
??
