Let me say that I was TOTALLY excited about the chance to stay on the 14th floor. We have loved the CR for the past 12 years and have stayed on the tower club floor for about the last 6 or 7 years. From what I have read on these boards I expected the 14th floor to be extremely fabulous. We have a family of 5 so we needed a one bedroom suite MK view. It cost us $1200/night. This is a LOT of money and a super splurge for us, but we happened to have some extra money and figured it would be a once in a lifetime opportunity - lets go for it!!

We were at the GF for 4 nights before checking into the CR. We had problems with the GF check in (posted on another thread) so on the day of CR checkin we called over to the Concierge at CR and spoke with Bill. He assured us everything was in order. Room wasn't ready, but it was the correct room, at least.

We went ot the MK and at about 400 checked into the cr. We went to the front desk and they checked us in. I thought check in would be on the 14th floor, but he said no, not always. We were scheduled to check in at the front desk. OK....Hmmmm...

When we arrived on the 14th floor, Bill was busy checking in another couple. No "hello" or welcome of any kind.

Our room was large and had nicer furnishings then the other CR rooms, but it showed its age. I thought housekeeping did a crummy job, too. The walls were a mustardy color and there were LOTS of black scuffs at all levels all over the walls. From floor level up to eye level. Yuck. In the main bedroom bathroom, ceiling tiles were actually caving in and tipping downward. The walls were extremely grimey in the bathroom. I actually got a washcloth wet and cleaned it myself as I didn't want to stand there brushing my teeth looking at the grime. Actually grossed me out. There was black mold or whatever growing in the grout in the shower. I was grossed out putting my soap on the soapdish as the grout was so yucky. Room 4916, if anyone is interested. The toilet looked like a public toilet. It had the flussher on the wall in the middle of a 12x12 stainless steel square. From the flush handle there was an ominous drip that trailed down to the floor tiles. There was some gunk on the tile behind the toilet that was never cleaned the whole 3 nights of our stay. There were stainless steel frames around the light switches that were very fingerprinty and yucky looking. There were marks all over the walls everywhere. The wall paper was nicked and ripped in places - MANY places. I definitely wanted to move, however my 3 kids liked the place. They do not notice yucky things. I am not a neat freak, either. I have 3 kids, a Newfoundland dog and a bunny. But considering the price per night I expected to be WOWED. I was absolutely disappointed.

The fridge remained empty unless I filled it. (I had read that housekeeping stocked it for you) The towel bars were extremely grimed up and DUSTY. There was a microwave in the little bar area that was as old as the CR. Dangerous......

I did enjoy the space, but I would NOT do it again. No desire at all. I mentioned my issues with the room to a concierge member. I just did it quietly and discreetly. Just wanted to knkow if maybe we happened to just get a bum room or something. She said all the rooms are the same. She would telll housekeeping to do a better job. They didn't. I think the place is just so old it is beyond housekeeping. I think they should have regrouted before it got to the point it was nasty looking. The ceiling tiles - I think is just yucky - with dust falling out if I tried to push them back up.

The food was OK. The first night it was Jalopena poppers and taquitos. Nothing great. Could have taken them out of my freezer and microwaved them myself at home. The next night was lamb and shrimp. Not our thing. Then came potstickers. my kids favorite.

Breakfast was a disappointment. They actually had more options on the 12th floor when we've stayed. There used to be yogurt, oatmeal, more cereals....We just had basic continental fare. Nothing great at all.

I wouldn't really recommend this floor to anyone. It actually was very business like. No magic here for me at all.

One more note, we finally went out and approached Bill ourselved and introduced ourselves to him. I needed a PS for the MVMCP on 11/28. He gave me incorrect info that kind of screwed up our plans. Told me that the park is closerd from 6 to 7 and that they actually "clear all the people out". He would not even check a PS from 5/530ish because he said I would walk out of the restaurant when the park was closed. Hmmmm..... I thought he should know what he was talking about. He didn't. When we arrived at the party at about 7pm. we got the program and could have seen shows at 6:15 and also 6:40.

Didn't really enjoy my stay there and would not stay there again. I have been a cheerleader for the CR, but that room was overpriced and overhyped.

Any questions????

That sounds just terrible!! I'm so sorry you were disappointed, anyone would be. I thought 14th floor must have been something really great seeing as how hard it is to get, thanks for the real story!

Thanks for the update. I've been wanting to stay there for some time but haven't been able to get a room.

Prime example that Disney overdoes their pricing. For that price you should get what you pay for, especially at a place at Disney which is known for going "over the top", guess that Travel Channel Chick is full of CRAP!

Anyways, I agree though. I've noticed that even nice rooms at Contemporary are just rugged looking. In fact, my father in law, a very wealthy business owner was putting us up in any hotel we wanted for two weeks on our honeymoon. first thought was Contemporary, but when we thought about how old and run down it was in even the nice rooms, we backed away from it to stay somewhere else.

It's time for a major refurbishment of the Contemporary instead of doing places like CBR. I guess they realize that the CR refurb is going to hold a very hefty price tag.

Wow! Sorry you had such a yucky room. They are not all like that, our's was not. Our's was very nice. Our fridge was stocked daily, too. I talked to Bill quite often. He was always so helpful to us. Did you meet Lois? She's the older lady (late 50'sish) with the short brown hair?

I do believe all of these rooms are going to be made over within the next year. That's what I was told.

$1200? The only way I'd ever stay at the CR is if it were free. I've never been in the rooms, but the rest of the hotel looks old, even smells old.
You should have consulted your DIS buddies because plenty of us would have adviced you not to do it! Not for $1200 anyway.

DeterminedOne - too funny! I used to love the CR - stayed there when I was a kid and have stayed tower club many times since!! If I paid $300 or so for the tower club, I would have felt I paid for the location and view. My kids like the retaurants and the arcade. I could stand the decor because I just thought it was kind of fun. My own house is very Wilderness lodge/ cedar and glass and woodsy and I liked the change. What we paid for the suite was a rip-off. It has turned me off the CR for quite a while. Until I hear the place has been completely redone - I am staying away!

Kimberle - I just don't get it!!! There were so many times we needed a concierge member to make a ps or ask a question and they weren't to be found!!! Probably stocking someone else's fridge. :guilty: I really used to love the CR, but for now I am done with it and won't even miss it. Everyone's experience is different and I learned I can't always go by what has happened to other people. I also forgot to mention my husband saw the tuxedo strawberries go by when we were sitting in the GF lounge. He ordered 2 dozen (he LOVES choc strawberries) as a surprise for us (through Bill) in the CR room when we arrived - they didn't show up. He had to make a couple phone calls to even get his $80 order of strawberries!!!! What a joke. The whole thing was a bummer.

You are better off staying somewhere where you'll be completely happy. We enjoyed our stay, but we decided it is going to be quite a few years before we return to the CR. We want to try different resorts. We've always stayed in the MK area. We are eyeing the Swan/Dolphin and I'd love to try the Boardwalk. And I'd REALLY love to try the new Ritz Carlton. Just wish it was closer to WDW......

So sorry to hear of you bad expierence i WAS so looking foward to trying the 14th floor now i am not so sure. WE were on the 12th floor last month and had such a great expierence as a matter of fact Bill was the one that checked us in and he was wonderful as were all the cl cms. We had every need met plus some. There was always someone at the desk to help and until 10pm. I think i will stick with the tower club it doesnt sound like the 14th floor is worth the money. I had posted when i got back that the only thing light on the 12th floor was the food meaning i couldnt see any service being better on the 14th now with what you are saying the food wasnt even better and it sure doesnt sound like the service was either!

I've stayed at the CR since I was a child. I'd say the time staying in the tower and the wings was about 1/2 and 1/2. Having said that, we never stayed in Concierge rooms, etc. Just regular tower and wing rooms. We always found that the max we would pay would be for the regular tower rooms. Having read the above post, I'm glad we never considered anything more. I've always loved the CR. We'll be staying somewhere else the next time we go, but it will always hold incredible childhood memories for me. I've posted on CR refurb threads before, maintaining that the contemporary should remain the way it is. Having said that though, I would be disgusted if a room that I paid over $350 per night for regardless of what floor it was on was not in tip-top shape.

I do recall when we were there in August, my wife and I met a couple at the pool in the CR. They were staying in concierge (don't remember what floor), and they had mentioned a water main break in the hotel. They said the next day, they had everything "repaired" and looking new. Do you think it is possible that the tiles falling off, the mold, etc. is a result from a quick fix with these issues?

You've just been double whammied...I remember your GF post! You poor thing! I agree, I would seriously consider staying at the new Ritz Carlton next time...they have a kids suite room that is unbelievable (from the pictures) and I think it's rate was $900 a night. I've just heard wonderful things about it. The most we could ever conceive paying for a nights stay is around the $250 mark..I can't imagine paying almost 5x that and having your experience...I would seriously be considering writing a letter to management and asking for a large portion of the charges back.

I don't think anything in your posts show that you expected more than a nice clean room and hospitable service...which you obviously did not receive. Seriously consider writing a letter to both management offices at GF and CR. You wrote very plainly and clearly and I'm sure someone will see a way to make it up to you.

CMONROE - I don't think the ceiling tiles had to do with the water main break. I think that was on the Bay Lake side??? Maybe I am wrong, but I thought that was the only side effected. I just think it was so poorly upkept and not maintained well at all. Even the concierge member that I spoke with, after she asked me if housekeeping did a better job after she spoke to them about my room issues, admitted that they should have repaired things before it got to the point where it really just couldn't even be cleaned. Also, we weren't in the room an hour when maintenance came and needed to repair something about the shower. I think the previous guest must have called and they finally showed up!!! Oh brother. I hadn't even checked out the shower at that time, so I really don't know what was wrong/fixed etc. He wasn't there long, so who knows.....

I just feel like it was very run down - more noticably then the tower club rooms. That could be because I felt disappointed knowing how much the place cost and sitting there on the sofa - my kids happily watching a DVD - and me looking around at all the black scuffs on the walls - EVERYWHERE!! I just felt kind of crushed inside. :guilty:

I think I will email them. I really feel ripped off and they have turned me away from the CR. I have memories of it as a kid, too, but forget it - never again.

Thanks for all the replies. It has been very cathartic to get this off my chest.

I feel for you. As another poster had stated, I would write to the management. Hopefully they'll realize that you spent $1200 per night and listen to your issues. I would hope they would atleast do something to make it right. Please let us know what happened if you decide to contact them.

Man, what a drag! I am so sorry your dream trip turned into a nightmare.

We stayed at the North wing last month and our room was in great shape, mousekeeping was wonderful...sounds like they need to give some lessons to the people caring for concierge!!!

Hope your next trip is much better!

I'm sorry to hear about your experiences at the GF and the CR :(. After I read about the GF, I was hoping that your CR review was going to be better. I would sit down and write all your the problems/issues you had in a list format from both ressorts (even thought you were already compensated for the GF). Then take that list and write a calm letter to Disney. Even if you don't get compensated further, they should know that they are not treating their "high rollers" appropriately nor are they keeping their prime real estate up to snuff.

I never had these problems at the Pop Century! :earseek: Just kidding :duck: .

ITA, robin!

We had a wonderful stay there this past summer on the 14th floor.
Even had Bill assist us with many PS's and even shipping of our extra purchases! Lou-Ann and Lois were also wonderful and the lounge food was excellent!
Now, the hallways were tattered looking and the carpeting looked worn and stained, but we were told that they were the next in line to get a total rehab this next year.

$1200 a night? I'd be disappointed too! :guilty:
Hopefully, your MK view made up for some of that! :D

Wow! Sorry to hear you had such a bad stay at the CR. We have stayed there many times in both the Tower and Garden Wing rooms. We have never had a run down room in either. We've never done 14th Floor Concierge, but we've always wanted to.

I would definitely let someone in management know about this. I think you stated everything clearly in your initial post. I would ask for comments specific to your complaints. For the amount of money you spent, I would definitely want an explanation.

If you are still willing to give Disney Concierge a try, I highly recommend the Beach Club. We have stayed there on six different occasions and have always had a magical experience. Hang in there!

Hi, I just have to say thanks for the replies. I spoke with a concierge member who said her manager (don't know if hotel manager or concierge manager) is going to credit us $300. That is for the whole 3K+ stay. Didn't expect anything, honestly. They know we are repeat visitors, but I just figure live and learn. We won't stay there again unless it is a GREAT DEAL and only tower or tower club. No more 14th floor. To me it was a learning experience in a way. I just get so caught up in the terrific things I read on these boards I feel like I gotta try that!!! We had some extra $$, I am a stay at home mom and just felt like I needed a little TLC and wanted to be thrilled. Oh well... we had a FUN time at the parks and GREAT time being together as a family and that is what really matters afterall.

I just wanted everyone to hear the other side of the story. (incase there are some other people out there that get carried away with what they read) It really wasn't great (for us) and it isn't something people really need to feel the urge to try. It was a waste of our money in my mind for the room, the resort is really showing it's age, but the vacation overall was wonderful.

Lives4Disney :D

Yikes...$1200/night...my monthly mortgage payment isn't even that much! You had every right to expect a clean, well maintained room and stellar service. I am so sorry to hear that your experience was not as magical as it should have been. I have never had any desire to stay at CR, and your post has again confirmed my decision to stay clear of the "giant toaster", except for meals at the CG.
