Hi!!

Well we got back Friday but have been to jet lagged to consider the internet before now! Still haven't done an October trip report, so highly unlikely I will do a December one, so a few highs and lows . . .

Highs:-
Car hire from Alamo - did the online check-in and collected the car really quickly once we arrived.

Pop Century - really impressed actually. Very friendly staff, nice clean rooms, lovely theming. Would happily stay here again to save money. And I have to say better pool areat than PO, if you're into pools at all.

Christmas events - Osborne Lights and the Castle all lit up at night were beautiful. The Candlelight Processional was pretty good, though slightly tainted by the fact it was -1 when we were sitting outside watching it!

Family - it was nice showing the parks and our favourite resorts to my family, and made it different for us as well after visiting a lot the last few years. We didn't tour commando style, just picked out favourite things to show them so we could leave the parks by lunchtime each day. I was really impressed with the way they got up early to do rope drop with us. Must also give my brother and his gf credit for attempting a water park Xmas day - they were blue all evening!!!!!!!:rotfl2:

Christmas generally - finally getting to see the parks decorated for Christmas after years of dreaming about it.

St Augustines. This was really pretty and we found a few things to do . . . however we went here on the coldest day of the trip . . . coupled with the sea breeze it was less than pleasant, and any minutes spent away from the car heater were considered wasted moments!!!!!

Lows:-
Virgin flight on the way out. I know they were short of planes because of the snow, and we were lucky just to go (two hours delayed because some of the staff for our flight we're stranded abroad, so we had to wait for poached staff from Heathrow to arrive!) but the plane we were on was a disgrace. All the sinks in economy were covered with masking tape and were unusable - all we had to use was a bottle of hand sanitiser. I think that was disgusting, but didn't feel I could complain because, as I said, we were lucky to be going.

Immigration in Orlando - is it me or does the line take 4 times as long now its one long queue?!

Weather - OMG! I knew it would be chilly, but had no idea it would be so cold!!! We had to de-ice the car a couple of times. According to the weather channel we had several of the coldest nights on record!!! And I am such a sun lover too!!!:sad2: I rarely wear that many clothes to walk the dogs in mid-winter here, so certainly didn't expect it in Florida.

Crowds - arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh. 'Nuff said. Rope drop was great, the emptiest, ever especially on EMH (7am in the cold!! Brrrrr) days, but from 10 onwards a complete nightmare. We saw MK close by 11am on at least two of the days there.

Ill. My dad and I were SO ill the last day with tummy problems I was worried we wouldn't be able to fly home. Had to miss all our last day plans including Tony's birthday meal at Beaches n Cream which we had been looking forward to all week. We had eaten at Coronado Springs food court the day before, and put it down to that as we hadn't eaten anywhere else together that day - first and last visit there!!!!

Food costs - the holiday surcharge cost on some Disney buffets really tainted the meals for me. Had the worst meal of our lives at Pizza Hut. Raglan Road, Tony Romas and Nine Dragons all excellent though.

Space Centre. DULL!! Does anyone actually ever return here?!!!!!!

To be honest this isn't a time of year I would EVER consider visiting again, the crowds and weather ruined it for me. I'm so glad I had the chance to see the Christmas bits though. In fact, we have always said if we win the lottery we will move to Florida . . . now we have extended the plan to add "but spend Christmas in California"!!!!!!

Glad you had a good time for the most part - that is terrible about the plane though, not good with all the winter germs!!

Welcome home and Happy New Year! :goodvibes:goodvibes

We were all quite relieved to see that you actually got away with all the weather related problems. I have to agree about the cold: I hate being cold and that is the one thing that always stops me from visiting Orlando at Christmas time. Christmas is my favourite time of the year and I love the decorations and lights, but I just can't give up the sunshine.

How was the flight coming back? Hopefully better than the one on the way out. Urgh, did they issue everyone with sanitiser or did you just happen to have your own?

Welcome home Sonya, can't believe you are back already, did you only go for 2 nights? :rotfl2:

Xmas is a great time to go and see but would never advise it for a 1st trip, only to someone with experience. I say never again after every Xmas visit but done 5 now, after a few weeks/months you forget how bad the lines were how busy the crowds get and you only remember the highlights.:goodvibes

Hope its a bit warmer for us in Feb for St Augustine.
A lot of peopel don't realise how cold Florida can get in the winter, 1st Xmas we had there we had to de-ice every morning, that was a really cold winter there.

I am really not looking forward to flying Virgin again, hopefully the new plane on teh way back will be better than the 747 outbound. I would send an email or letter of complaint, you might get a few miles added to your account, better than nothing if you were not happy.

I rarely pay Disney prices for food at regular prices, holiday pricing is crazy, did it once at Boma, never again.

Space Centre we all love, been 4 or 5 times now(had AP 1 year) even Karen who did not expect to enjoy it does.

Hope your Dad is feeling better now.:goodvibes

Lovely to hear you had a great time.

My SIL has just come back from Orlando and all of her kids have been poorly with sickness, so maybe it wasn't the food.

Welcome Back!!

We too expereinced the cold in Florida and we mirror what you have said - NEVER AGAIN!!
The christmas decorations were lovely but the cold out weighed the decorations for sure. :thumbsup2

I also got sick from food - quite worrying to hear someone else reporting the same  Hope you are both feeling better now.

Welcome back and a Happy New Year!! :wave2:

We went for Christmas last year and, although we had a wonderful time, I've got no wish to ever go that time of year again. I'm very grateful we got to experience all the Christmas theming and the special events like MVMCP and the Candlelight Processional but in future any trips I do to WDW will be when the weather is more likely to be warmer!

Hope everyone who's ill is feeling better soon.

We went in early December a few years ago and will never go back in the winter. In Epcot we ended up buying a blanket in Mexico and wrapped it round us whilst we watched the fireworks. The Christmas theming was fantastic but the cold weather was miserable.

Welcome back :goodvibes

We returned last Wednesday from Florida - and yes had some of the coldest days I have experienced out there for a while. However, we love going in December and did manage a few days at the pool and at Blizzard Beach. On Christmas day we played crazy golf & went for a sundae at Beaches n Cream - sorry you missed your meal there.

We stayed at POFQ for the first few nights and found a lot of people had colds etc - so like here - I think it's just going round. Shame you picked up a stomach bug just before coming home - were you alright on the flight back?

Both our flights were good from Manchester and I have to say the crew were cheery and friendly on the way back home.

Hope you have got over the jet lag - I can't seem to get into the swing of things yet!!

I agree about the weather and the cold but I would go back at that time of year again in the future.

I think it must have really cooled down when we were leaving we had one really cold day - 7 degrees the first week, and it was still a lot warmer than at home!!!

I loved it, and no matter what the weather is your in FLORIDA!!! We would love to go that time of year again, we found it really magical and the parks were the quietest we have found them, our dates were 4-20 Dec.

our dates were 4-20 Dec.

A massive difference going before 25th Dec and after 25th. You change from some of quietest weeks of the year to The busiest week of the year. Although we still enjoy it I fully understand why others don't.

I know thats we avoided being there for Christmas!

brrrr.....just reading your report, i ran to put on mittens :)

if i couldn't go any other time of year, i guess i would go for xmas, but i really can't deal with crowds so.....

and chilly is nice, but arctic chill? i pass on that too :)

but to answer your KSC question - yes, people do return to the kennedy space center - we LOVE it there!!!!! but we're sort of geeky types....

That's still on our to-do list. I would love to go too and I think DD would really enjoy it as well.

Thank goodness someone cleared up what dates December is good for ...... I was starting to think I never want to go Florida in december .... but knowing i'll be going early december and they are quite is perfect:thumbsup2

Sorry you felt ill, but try to forget the bad bits and look back at the pictuers and remember the fun times (I know its hard, but its the only way you should remember any holiday imo)

Hey you! sorry it was so cold, but at least you can say you saw MK at xmas :thumbsup2 hope its warmer in a couple of weeks:goodvibes xx

Sorry to scupper your lottery win plans but it snowed in LA after Christmas for a bit, first time in 19 years or something apparently but still.

Maybe you could visit New Zealand or Australia for Christmas it is usually sunny and hot there then.

Sorry about being ill, there is plenty of stuff going around.

I would be really cranky about the state of the plane, yes you were lucky to get out but that doesn't mean you should have to put up with clearly unsatisfactory conditions, PEOPLE NEED TO WASH THEIR HANDS,

My son can't use many of those antibacterial gels.

Look forward to a food report soon. ;)
