DH and I just got back yesterday from a very quick trip to WDW for my bday this past weekend (2/9 - 2/11) and just wanted to share our experience. This was our first stay at a DVC resort (we just bought in December) so we were really excited to check things out. We had a BW view, and were put in room 2045 (a studio), which was just a quick 15 second jaunt off the lobby! I was so excited about this, after hearing how long the walks can be. In fact, I remember I had stayed with my family at the BWI a month after it had first opened and we had gotten lost for 15 minutes trying to find our room that time, so this was a great location.

We definitely noticed the wear and tear on this resort - it's such a shame! The hallway carpet is so dirty that instead of yellow, it's now a nasty gray shade. Our room was clean, but there were tons of nicks and scratches in the cabinets and furniture. Everything was just dingy - which is so sad, because it's such a pretty resort. But like I said, our room WAS clean, and it wasn't an issue at all, just something we noticed when we first walked in.

Also, has anyone else noticed how SLOW the buses here are? It was excruciating! When you get picked up, you have to then stop at the Yacht, the Beach, the Swan, and finally the Dolphin before you can be on your way - and then when you return from the parks, the BW is the last stop, so you have to hit all the other hotels first. We had stayed at POR the last three times we went down, and even that resort (with it's zillions of bus stops) was much faster than the BW. Oh, we saw the Breathless being zoomed around the lake, which was neat. I guess it's back in service! DH discovered Community Hall, and loved it. We went in to rent a movie, and he wound up playing video games and ping pong with the CM there who had nothing to do and said she was bored because no one was coming in. When we got back to our room we realized we didn't have a DVD player, so we called the front desk and one was brought in immediately.

Let me tell you, it was PACKED down there this weekend. I was shocked by the mass of people we encountered in every park. The wait times seemed to reflect that, however, they were never accurate. For example, Everest had a wait time of 50 minutes when we got there in the afternoon, but we waited more like 25. Same thing with Space Mountain - first thing in the morning it already had a 10 minute wait, but was more of a 3 minute walk and then you hopped right on. Nemo had a 10 min wait posted, but we think that's just how long it takes you to walk to the ride! And TT posted 20 minutes, but was more like five. So... not sure what all those people were doing, but they were't on the rides!

And just a few more observations - when driving around the DTD area we noticed the road signs still all say MGM, instead of Hollywood Studios. The miniature train in Germany wasn't operating, and all of the houses were gone. In fact, parts of the track had been ripped up, too. The sign said it was coming back, but didn't indicate when. And has anyone else noticed the refurb walls in Adventureland/Frontierland behind the fry stand? They were there in September when we went, and I didn't think anything of it, but they were still there this past weekend, and there's no notice on it at all. I wonder what's going on behind there... ;)

I'm most likely going to do a dining review over on the Restaurant review board, but I probably won't do a whole trip report, so if you have any questions I'll try my best to answer them!

Nice pictures.

Regarding DVD player: I don't think they are included in studios, so it is interesting that they were happy to send one up for you! :thumbsup2

I know that VWL has DVD players in studios. I thought they all were supposed to have them by this time.

The studio part of the 2 bedroom we got for our friends at OKW in Jan. did not have a DVD. Maybe they are putting them in studios as they refurbish rooms?

You know, after we had called down to the desk about the DVD player I wondered if maybe we weren't supposed to have one! I even asked the guy who came to install it and he said he didn't know, but it was no big deal - he was happy to put it in and he was going to tell the manager and if it wasn't supposed to be there they'll just remove it when we check out. Definitely a nice guy! :thumbsup2

thank you - didn't know I could get a DVD by just asking for one.

I think some of the work you noticed was getting ready for the flower and garden festival that starts next month.

Thanks for the pics I always wondered how the other half (BWV) live.;) I enjoyed hearing about the interaction with the CM that is great. Did ya like and of the CS or quick eats in the BW area? What did ya do for b-fast?
Thanks for the post.

I know what you mean about the busses!!

We stayed at BWV last sept and the busses were great! But our trip this Jan we felt like it took forever to get anywhere!! We waited for a magic kingdom bus for almost an hour once! The animal kingdom bus came three times!!
We were very frustrated! I don't remember stopping at the Beach club last sept on the busses but maybe I am mistaken

Believe it or not, we didn't do any CS in the area! The first day we were there we had lunch (around 11:45) at Beaches & Cream, and it was EMPTY! And by the time we were done, only one or two other groups had come in. Other than that, the only other meals we had in the area was dinner at Spoodles, which was just alright, IMO. There's not many choices for quick service in the area, so for breakfast one morning we ate some granola bars and cupcakes we had in the room (it was my birthday, so my mom had brought cup cakes with her - she lives in S. Fl, so she came up for the night to stay in the Dolphin to celebrate), and the next morning we went to Main St. Bakery at MK, because we love their breakfasts!

It didn't seem like there was any method to the madness of this bus route. On our way to AK we stopped at both the Yach & Beach, but that was it. On the way back, we stopped at the Swan & Dolphin. On the way to the MK, we stopped at ALL FOUR other hotels AFTER the BW, and on the way back from DTD, the BW was the last hotel after the other four. I kept finding myself thinking what I was doing not calling a cab! :confused3

Looks like you are having a great trip so far and your room location is wonderful, great view!

The bus issue is really bad at the Epcot resorts, especially at the busier times of the season.

Hopefully, the wear and tear on the resort will not get unnoticed. I am in DVC for the long hall, and do not want to see any of the resorts fall into a sad, worn-out resort.

Hey, I like the ugly blue tile in the bathroom..:lovestruc
BWV is one of the older dvc resorts so hopefully it's on the schedule for some updates

LOL I wasn't a big fan! But the location of the villas cannot be beat. I'm sure Disney knows that they're looking a little shabby, and I bet there will be some refurb there soon.

BTW, I forgot to mention, as we were walking to Epcot, we noticed all the balconies of the BCV were covered up and there was scaffolding there. Wonder what they're up to over there... :confused3

As for the buses...it tends to make a difference what time of day you are taking a bus. BW usually shares bus routes with the S/D early in the morning and at park closing. Mid-day the route will include the YC/BC as well. They have their own buses for the busier times of day.
The run to DTD and TL tend to have all the resorts on it. A pain if you ask me. We were there in mid-Jan and didn't notice the buses were any worse than usual. The wait times for the MK bus seem to be longer than you would think but we never waited more than 15 or so mins at any time. DTD buses are the worst...they take forever, both coming and going.
Whenever a resort has transportation options other than buses (monorail, boats, feet) the bus system suffers.

I have to agree that BW is starting to show her age. It's time for some rehab....they do a pretty good job of touch up but the time comes when touching stuff up just doesn't cut it. I know my villa last month (3001) was dinged up pretty badly. The stove was atrocious...nothing I would want to cook on.
