Well I'm very happy to report that our 7 night stay at the Boardwalk Villas was absolutely wonderful.
We arrived Saturday morning around 11:30 and our 1 BR Boardwalk View room was ready. Room 5051 was clean and everything was working like one would expect. And...our luggage arrived via ME about an hour later. What a great start to a great vacation.
This will be a short and compact report since we did just get home; literally.
Room - great room and well worth the points. 5th floor and close to elevators if that's important to you. Wonderful view; would definately request this room again.
Weather - rainy. More than usual in my opinion. However it's been awhile since we went in June, but this was my birthday trip. Normally I'm use to sunny hot mornings, brief showers in mid to late afternoons then more sun. Usually each day runs a 30-40% chance of rain. This time the mornings were somewhat sunny and the rain came early afternoon and sometimes lasted for hours, with the remainder of the day cloudy. Each day we ran a 60% chance of rain and I think there may have been 3 days we were rain free. Not that hot either; maybe high 80's. But I don't think we got into the mid 90's at all. But boy that humidity!!! No matter; we had ponchos and umbrellas handy at all times.
Transportation - walked or took the boat over to Epcot and/or the Studios. The few mornings we took the bus to the MK I was very surprised. The wait was very short between buses and each time the bus was completely empty. Now this was the mornings that we had early entry. So I'm talking maybe 7:45. But definately better than previous years. Took the bus to DTD and it took forever to get back; over an hour. We need to find a better way to do that the next time we stay at the BW.
Food - We ate at most of our favorite places; Spoodles, Liberty Tree Tavern, Prime Time Cafe, Crystal Palace, San Angel Inn, ESPN and had exceptional meals each time except: San Angel. I was so disappointed. I was one to always defend this establishment when people compared it to Taco Bell. Well unfortunately this time my meal was like something I'd get at Taco Bell. We had lunch there on the day of our arrival and found the menu different. I decided to try the Nachos de Polo and they were terrible. First of all I couldn't find any "polo" (chicken) and the cheese wasn't even hot; it seemed like it was just warmed up in the microwave. The sad thing about this was that years ago this was my son's favorite lunch item and I do remember them being 100% better. Oh well...scratch that item. I will return as I do enjoy their dinner menu. Once that deteriorates then it will be "adios".
My birthday - When we checked in Saturday I was presented with my "birthday button" which some wear all week. I opted to just wear it Tuesday when it was my birthday. I vaguely remember when making this reservation mentioning to the person at MS that it would be a birthday trip but never made a big deal of it. Well apparently it was noted on the ressie (I missed it) and the CM at check-in picked it right up. So now I have my button. The day of my birthday I wore my button and let me tell you; I had CM's walking up to me from all over wishing me "happy birthday" and calling me by name or "princess" which mad this 58 year old feel like a young girl again.
That afternoon room service presented me with a georgeous cake that DH had ordered from reading the Birthday Cake Thread here and it brought tears to my eyes. A delicous cake with Mickey on it and I was eating it in WDW. What else could I ask for?? Well at dinner later that evening at Liberty Tree Tavern my button was noticed and when we were seated there was "pixy dust" (little shiny mickey heads) all over our table and at the end of the meal when dessert was presented, a group of servers sang a special birthday song to me (not the traditional one) bells in hand and all then gave me this great chocolate cupcake with a candle. It was a glorious day.
That's about it for now. DH and I have decided that from now on my birthday will be in WDW. It was the best birthday ever.
If there are any questions, I'll be more than happy to try and answer them.
Now, its on to planning my October Food and Wine trip alone!!!
