Just Back from BWV-Nightmare at Checkin

Oh I pray I do not run into this issue in a few days. My daughter will be so be ready for a nap when we get tothe resort at 3:30.

Just to clarify a few points that were brought up since I started this thread:
We checked in on Sunday, 9/30.
We had a Boardwalk view room.
I got the impression that the room was vacant but not cleaned because when we arrived at 9AM, the front desk had a room assigned but said it was not ready yet. I question my interpretation a bit not knowing exactly how rooms are assigned.

Based on all the responses here, I see that this does happen often and before this, I have been lucky enough that it has not happened to me. So now I know it happens and enough for people to be as frustrated as I was. I will contact Disney.
If someone knows the best way to make contact, please let me know. I encourage all to contact Disney. If it has not happened to you yet, there is a good chance it will impact you at some time in some way. Seems as DVC members, we have lost the benefit of checking in at 4PM like the hotel guests. Why??

I've seen mousekeeping work pretty darn hard. The only issues I've ever had at DVC have been due to other DVCers. My vote is for selfish self-extenders. If people don't get out when they're supposed to, there's not much that DVC can do.

Having said that, I'd use some sort of check-out notification, when we leave, if it were avail. That way, they could start to address the empty rooms first.

..How about charging a hefty late fee and then handing it over to the next family...:rotfl:

I dont think its the mousekeepers work ethic, its probably more of there just not being enough of them to go around and the self extenders.

this policy nowadays of alot of hotels and resorts of continuing to push and push on this check in time is getting aggrevating. Until people start to complain about it they will continue to see how far they can go

after 4, or even 4 is ridiculous.
id rather be paying more in MF's in order for them to hire an extra few housekeepers. I dont know how many points are each resort but I bet about 10 cents per points would hire a few housekeepers at each resort

personally I would even rather have an hour less at check out to account for an hour earlier at check in.

There in may lie the problem. Where do you find the extra mousekeepers? Disney is probably the largest one site employer in the US, but the competion for labor in Orlando has to be huge. The mousekeeping jobs are not the highest paying of jobs and there is a limited supply of individuals who are willing to do that kind of work at that pay. When you couple Disney with all of the other resorts and hotels in the Orlando area, the demand for those jobs has to be out of sight.

I do have to say that we have not had an issue with this in the years we have been going DVC, But last December it was close (we got in at 4)

Is it self extenders, housekeeping or both? My guess is both however they obviously know housekeeping is a big problem. So fix it! Hire more people. Simple isn't it????

I would contact DVC by mail or email and let them know. We try to contact the front desk, housekeeper or housekeeping when we leave so they know they can clean our room. I think some of the problem is they need more housekeepers only once or twice a week. DVC does not clean all rooms everyday. So having enough housekeepers with the amount of work could be tricky to figure out how many is enough and how many is too many. Give DVC the positive things with the negative. We have found a few housekeepers lacking, but almost all are hard working and care about how they do their jobs.

not probably, it is the largest one site employer!

Im sure it is tough to get/keep help
but that had better be part of the thought process before you go building new resorts all over the place.

there was another poll about is dvc too big, well if they cant take care of what they have then they shouldnt be adding more

im not saying we are at that point, but I would like a bit more attention paid to the current resorts first and foremost--I love the new add ons but I bought for what they already had

something to watch

I agree! They definately need to fix what is broken first!!!

thats what I dont get here, Im sure there are days when there are more check out/check ins than others...but what do they have 1 housekeeper?
most of the rooms are not even getting everday cleaning......and if they were they should only be touched after the check in rooms are done

does dvc have there own housekeepers at the combo resorts like BW or do they use the BW help over on the dvc side?

I have actually caught the mousekeeper sitting and relaxing watching her favorite Spanish show instead of cleaning:happytv: . Not only is this a problem at the DVC units but I have also found 2 mousekeepers sitting in my room talking:chat: . One was even a mentor as he called himself. I finally went into my room and sat there making sure the room got cleaned in a timely manner.
I do agree that they could probably use more mousekeepers but you must also make sure they are doing what they are suppose to be doing.

Definitely complain. Right now housekeeping is horribly understaffed and it takes so much longer to clean the villas, that DVC members are suffering more than hotel guests with this situation.

The thing is, with the addition of more DVC resorts, it is only going to get worse. So please, complain.

As to a simple fix, no its not simple. There are simply not enough people in the area to hire for housekeeping. Orlando area has over grown the market. They go to area outside of the country for workers but then you have language problems and heavy turn over due to those that get homesick and leave.

Throwing money at the problem does not make for more workers and there is only so much money to be given to one particular area. You can't pay housekeeping more than you do Front Desk agents then you really begin to have problems.

DVC does not need to keep building though. It is insane.

Mousekeeping is taking a lot of hits on this thread . . . and, perhaps, justifiably so . . . however, there is another issue that we have talked about earlier and is not getting any better either: those rude people who do not check out in time.

I am presently at AKV. When I checked in on Tuesday, I was told that I had to call back later, that my room wasn't cleaned yet. Then the person at the desk said, "Actually, the other people have not even checked out yet. They are still in your room."

I fear until we have some stiff penalties, there are going to be more and more people who take their sweet time checking out and causing those who check in a lot of grief.

So which was it, do you think? Your room wasn't cleaned yetor the other people have not checked out.

I am beginning to think that this is an easy way to pass the buck and put the blame somewhere else.

That is true, but since we book months in advannce, DVC knows who is checking in or out on any given day. That makes it possible to schedule housekeeping staff appropriately.

Well we have an early flight into Orlando this Saturday. we Land at 9:24
It will be interesting to see what happens at SSR when we get there appx at 11:00 am. We will post our experiences

This is a common topic. We stay at BWV most often and rarely had to wait much past 4 pm. However, they're at 100% capacity during F&W. Florida has a law that prevents hotels from throwing anyone out of a room, even if it's past checkout. No matter how many mousekeeping staff members you have, you just need a few selfish idiots to vacate late to make it impossible for others to start their vacation. I've even heard of people going off to the parks and leaving all their stuff in the villa until later in the day when it's time to go to the airport. Disney can't remove them. So while I agree that it stinks, some of the fault has to be laid on the state of Florida for the stupid law and the morons who can't see that their actions affect others.

I sure there are plenty of mousekeepers who do a good job as well as those who do shoddy work, but part of the problem MUST be in management. First of all, if the housekeepers are paid substandard wage, there is no "pride" in doing the job to the best of their ability. Secondly, if there is no supervision and no reward or check and balance system, then there is a flaw in the management process. It looks to me like both are happening right now.

In the past, OKW has had an EXCELLENT housekeeping staff. The last couple of years has been QUITE different. It looks like the whole system is breaking down, and that usually happens from the top. Time to let Jim Lewis know it needs to be fixed!

Alot of discussion on what causes the delay in checking in, not enough mousekeeping or people not leaving. As a DVC owner, that is not for me to figure out. Disney is responsible for figuring out where the breakdown is and manage it. We paid good money for what is supposed to be a quality product. My expectation is that it is reviewed and the appropriate action is taken to fix it. I just get a sense that Disney is well aware of this situation and considers it an inconvenience that will not affect there overall satisfaction. More so, it will not affect the number of people willing to pay for DVC membership and keep it. Percentage wise, with Disneys membership in DVC, it may happen 1% to 2% of the time and is not worth addressing. Of course I am speculating. By no means do I think it is acceptable. Any company should strive for 100% satisfaction but I am just not sure that is whats happening in this specific area.
