Just back from BLT

We just got home from BLT on the weekend. We had a one-bedroom LV, 7422 (we think!). It was simply fabulous - the view took in the Contemporary Resort, marina and around to the rest of Bay Lake. We enjoyed our wine on the balcony as the sun set and the launches from FW and points beyond sailed by. Heaven! We truly can't wait to get back.

We had a few observations:

1. This was our first stay, and the resort lived up to our expectations and exceeded them in some cases. It's clean, the hallways are wide and the decor really is compelling.

2. The much-discussed bathroom door issue wasn't one for us. I see though that DVC is changing this in the studios.

3. We soooo much enjoyed meeting our fellow owners. You're a great group! Heck, in true neighbourly spirit, the folks next door even dropped off the milk they weren't going to finish when they moved out. DD met a friend in the pool and we so much enjoyed meeting her parents, including a lovely evening in the TOTW. So nice to meet folks who share our love for WDW.

4. The TOTW is a treasure. We dined on flatbread (the tenderloin is exquisite) and the dessert sampler, and shot way too many fireworks photos. I think we were there every night.

5. Space. They are right - once you're in a 1BR, you may never go back. We'll see after our next visit and see if we can cope in a tiny studio!

6. Location location location.

7. The furniture choices will definitely be an issue over time. The back cushions on our sofa bed were fully frayed out -- the weave on the fabric is not tight, and clearly the seams weren't sufficiently reinforced to handle even a few months of wear and tear. I put this down to a manufacturing issue, not abuse. The sofa was comfortable for sleeping.

8. Bedding. Our unit came with one flat sheet on the sofa bed and one flat sheet on the pull-out chair. There were two blankets. And quite honestly, this isn't enough. Since we were just three, I pulled the sheet off the chair and put it on the bed. Still, it's a bit chintzy. And let's face it: most people who book a 1BR are putting more than two people in the unit. That additional bedding should be better than the stuff your old college roommate had just in case someone crashed at their place.

9. Buzzards. Wow, there are a lot of them. They were more of a novelty than an annoyance for us, but those on the other side of the building may have decidedly different opinions.

10. The pool. We tried out the Contemporary, and considered a bit of pool hopping even to the Poly, but in the end just stayed home. DD loved the slide. Even on the days when it seemed there was room to just stand around, it was a great place to be.

Yes, enjoyed is an understatement. But you may note that our March trip is to Kidani. I have been dragging the family to your posts and glorious photos to show just what wonders await on the other side of WDW.

OP buzzards? please tell me they are the flying vs roosting on the balcony sort:laughing:

Not the OP, but the birds seem to like the rooflines more than the balconies. But there was a lot of bird poop on the pool chairs. We were there 2 weeks ago and the birds really gave us the willies!

We were there two weeks ago and saw them flying above the Comtemporary. they were always there. We would stand on out balcony and watch them. they were really big.

ive stayed @ the CR -MK view & never noticed them:confused3

know my DH will be thrilled, he was so excited to see Eagles in Alaska, buzzards are probably on his bucket list too;)

Thanks for the post! Glad to hear you loved BLT. Can't wait for our first trip home next June. Can't wait to try the TOWL.

I'm glad you enjoyed your trip to BLT.

I must be the odd person out when it comes to TOTW because I honestly didn't like it and it definately was not worth the money I spent, but to each their own.

Blackbirds and Turkey Vultures seem to love the BLT! Especially when the wind causes an updraft on the inside of the U. (The pool side of the building) It's fascinating watching them in the afternoon. Other than having to watch your snacks at the pool, I dont think they really bother with humans....

I've heard they come over from Discovery Island...

Glad to hear you a good time. Planning to stay there next August. Did they have the movies on the beach like some of the other resorts?

Thanks for the report! We are on the countdown!!!!:wizard:princess:
I hate birds, that buzzard thing is freaking me out. Can't say I ever saw a buzzard in NY (well, at least not the kind that flies):scared1:

Thanks for the report, we are headed to the BLT in March.. we can't wait!!!

BLT/CR does have nightly outdoor movies (weather permitting). When we were there, the screen was setup between BLT and CR. Our last night, we stood on the skybridge and watched part of the movie.

We also had our first DVC visit this Labor Day at BLT, our home resort. Since we just joined DVC in July the only room available for Labor Day was a studio. Never again! The room was fine as a bedroom but to stay in for three days it was just too small for 3 of us. Of course when I travel on business I always have a suite of some kind so I might be a little jaded. We did love the tower and agree with everything you already said. I know when we are in a 1BR at Christmas I will feel much better. And the single sheet on the pull out was really stupid. The pool at BLT was very nice but we liked the pool at the Contemporary better. The slide was bigger and faster!

only stayed in a studio (so far) but really think it had 2 sheets on the bed.

glad you trip was wonderfully!

yea so the black birds and blizzards. yea remember the blizzards from Discovery Island. would have though all those birds would have been long dead.

how long does a bliizzard live?

disney got into so much trouble trying to get rid of them - they shot off an explosion (like SW had done) and you would though by the news they were killing the birds.

really surprised at how attracted to BLT they seem. because never had problems with them at CR.

really wish that DVC could do something with them - they will probably kill all the nearby wildlife.

I told DH re the buzzards, he reminded me that we saw several turkey vultures @ KSC feasting on roadkill:rolleyes:wonder how i managed to forget that memorable moment. Guide on tour there pointed out a Condor's nest in tree the size of a twin bed...long as I don't find one in our studio i'm willing to co-exist

OP (or anybody) have any pics of the critters to share?
