Had an excellent week there staying with a friend. Ill try to post a couple of photos later, once I get my new camera rigged up to the PC and stuff.

Thats my 3rd time, and I have to say the more I go, the more I love the place :) Anybody else been? Whats your thoughts on it?

Planning for WDW begins in earnest right now :thumbsup2

I agree, its a great city, I really must go back again, I keep saying I will then put it off.:confused3

I like Barcelona.....great bustling city. I bought alot of shoes, why do they have such great shoes?
Anyway I really enjoyed a trip we took outside Barcelona to Masserat, I consider that a not to be missed excursion. We had a great day!

Can't wait to see your photos!

would love to see your pics:) we went to barcelona years ago, i remember going to the nou camp ;)

Some pics below :)

I went to the Nou Camp for the Liverpool game. My friend is a Barca member and was able to get us good tickets for it :cool1: Unfortunately, I didnt buy the camera til Thursday so I didnt get any pics of it :sad1: But he is at the game tonight and promised me who would take some pics and email them to me. We'll see.....:rolleyes1

This pic is of the fountains in Placa Catalunya, the main square in Barcelona.

This pic is taken from Placa Catalunya, looking down towards the Ramblas.

'Ronaldinho' showing his skills on the Ramblas :lmao:

This was one of the many artists you meet on the Ramblas. Most of them are really good - the detail in their costumes is unreal. This one was particularly good. When you throw a coin in his bucket, him and his skeleton sidekick begin cycling the bike and ringing the bell. Its a hilarious sight, I wish I had took a video of it!

Another from the Ramblas, of the monument to Christopher Columbus. His right hand points towards Genoa across the Mediterranean, his place of birth.

This is the church of St Marie del Mer (I think that's the name...) in the Barri Gotic (Gothic Quarter) of the city. Simply stunning.

This is the church of Sacre Couer (it is modelled on its more famous cousin in France) at the top of Tibidabo, the mountain that overlooks Barcelona. The detail in the exterior is beautiful.

A breathtaking view of Barcelona from the top of Tibidabo. The row of trees in the bottom left hand corner is Parc Guell, famously designed by Gaudi. In the immediate foreground is the funfair situated at the top of Tibidabo. Given my fear of heights, I was quite pleased it wasnt operational (and neither was the funicular that takes you up the mountain, so my mate had to drive :rotfl: )

Also, you can see how the main streets of Barcelona run straight towards the sea. If you zoom in on Barcelona from Google Earth, its amazing to see how the old city was designed.

A couple more to follow, from the top of Tibidabo.

Great photos. I have been to Barcelona just once and did the open bus tour and of course Hard Rock Cafe (to pick up the glass).

Hope to get out there a whole lot more once our place in Spain is built.

Another view from the top of Tibidabo. You can make out La Sagrada Familia, the famous Gaudi church, just above and to the left of the grey tower in the foreground. The 2 towers near the beach on the right of the picture are around the Olympic Village site.

A better picture of La Sagrada Familia, although a bit blurry. I didnt get any close ups unfortunately.
DSCF0071.jpg

A view from the other side of Tibidabo, looking towards Montserrat. Despite the few clouds, visibility was good. I think the peaks beyond Montserrat to its right is the Pyrenees. I cant think what else they could be
DSCF0074.jpg

Another view of the Church of Sacre Couer, coming back down Tibidabo. Its an imposing sight over the city, and reminds me more of the Christ The Redeemer statue in Rio De Janeiro than anything ive ever seen.
DSCF0078.jpg

And the last one, from the Royal Palace at Montjuic, looking down, in the foreground, to the Magic Fountain area. Unfotunately I missed them :sad2: Ive seen them before though, they are an amazing sight! In the background, you can see again the church again at the top of Tibidabo, lit up in all its night time glory. A beautiful sight :)

I only bought the camera with 2 days left to go on the holiday, so thats all I managed to get im afraid.

There's loads to do in Barcelona, and it has an excellent metro system so if you want to go anywhere that isnt in walking distance, its only a 15 minute journey from the centre. Apart from the awe inspiring La Sagrada Familia and Nou Camp, there is a ton of other places that are worth visiting.

The Ramblas, Barcelona's liveliest street. Mime artists, street vendors, street cafes, etc. The Ramblas is the heart of old Barcelona.

As you walk from Placa Catalunya down the Ramblas towards the Port area, the maze of streets and alleyways on your left is the Gothic Quarter. This is my favourite place in Barcelona. Around every corner is a selection of beautiful restaurants, quaint shops, traditional cafes selling fresh seafood, and some of the churches and squares are great places for taking some time out and enjoying the people watching. Look out for the Placa Reial, just off the Ramblas and also Placa Jaume in the heart of the Gothic Quarter. Both good places for relaxing in a cafe and taking a break. There is also a couple of night clubs in the Placa Reial. You could spend days wandering the Gothic Quarter, and wont mind a bit if you get a little lost :)

As you walk from Ramblas diagonally across Placa Catalunya to the right, you come to the Passeig de Gracia. This is a famous shopping street in Barcelona. As you walk up Passeig de Gracia you will notice several Gaudi buildings. They are very distinctive ;) The district to the right of Passeig de Gracia is called Gracia, and has many small squares and alleys that are definitely worth exploring.

Tibidabo should be visited as well, as you can see from the pics above :)

Also see Montjuic, the hill that lies to the south of Barcelona. Some of the Olympic games were held up here, and there is also the old fort from which the city has been bombed. The views of the harbour from here are great.

Another 'must see', but I think often rarely visited, is the Museum of Catalan History. It is close to the Barceloneta district in Barcelona's harbour area. There are 3 floors detailing the history of the region, and a beautiful restaurant on the 4th with nice views over the harbour.

Also, here is a link to an excellent website that gives great info and tips on everything to do with Barcelona. You will definitely enjoy your holiday alot more by having a look :thumbsup2

Thanks Jan :thumbsup2

I took quite a few more, but they were more or less duplicates of the ones posted, or when I was just trying the different functions on the camera, etc. However, ill post a few more later for Helen's benefit :)

Its really appreciated.

IM going to link this thread with our med cruise thread so they can share the info :goodvibes
