I have never done a trip report before, but wanted to let you know about my most recent trip which came up suddenly this past weekend.
I had been wanting to get away for a weekend, and Delta had a great last minute fare to orlando last week, so I had to take advantage. I had all the best intentions to stay away from "the world", and just visit the beach, but Disney was calling, so I decided to go to the park Sunday
. Saturday afternoon I called reservations and got a good AAA rate for the Polyenisian. I have never stayed here before and really wanted to, so I took the plunge and spent the money. We got to the hotel Sunday morning at about 11am. Our room was not ready yet, so we decided to go on over to the Magic Kingdom and get our disney fix started. It was so nice taking the monorail...nice and cool and we never had big crowds. My mom had come with me so we stopped and she rented an electric wheelchair and then we were off. Now I always go to Disney in December (be back on Dec 9 at the Beach Club), so I knew it would be alot hotter then what I was used to...and boy howdy was it ever. Since this was a last minute trip, I did not get to buy one of those fan misters before hand, so I had to invest in the disney one...that had to have been the best $15 I spent the whole trip. Anyway, out first stop was to eat some lunch...we decided to go to Pecos Bill's. As always it was great. I had the barbecue sandwich and my mom had the burger. After that we decided to seek out the nice cool waiting area for Pirates. I thought they did a wonderful job on the additions...the figures of Johnny Depp looked SOOO real! anyway, after that we went and rode aladdins carpets and splash mountain. By this time it was about 2pm and had already rained a couple of times, we decided to go back and check into the hotel and get cool. We lucked out that they were having the extra magic hours that night at the Magic Kingdom so we decided to come back at 7pm and get our wrist bands.
We checked into the hotel and we were assigned the Rapa Nui (?) lodge, bottom floor. The lodge was a good distance from the ceremonial house, but it had its own little parking lot, so that was nice. The room was Excellent! Huge!! We had a handicapped room and the shower was really nice and big. When I made the res, the agent kept telling me how great the pool was...well, I was a little dissapointed when I went...I think the pool at port orleans french quarter is better..anyway, there was a ton of loud kids in the pool, so I decided to try out the quiter pool near our room...much better and much more relaxing. After the pool, we took a nap and got back to the Magic Kingdom about 645 pm.
Now in regards to the extra magic hours...I had asked several people where and when we could get the bracelets...I heard 7pm, 730 pm, and 8pm...luckily we were right near the entrance at about 650pm, because we saw they had started giving them out then.
Well, we tried getting dinner at a couple of places, but it was packed and they had no ressies left for that night...so we ended up back at pecos bills. Still good. this time I had the hamburger and my mom did the wrap. Happy with both...by the way, I asked for icewater both times with my meals...there was no charge either time and they gave me a HUGE cup with plenty of ice...great suggestion I learned from the disboards. Thanks!
anyway, we run the people mover, buzz lightyear, and I also did the teacups and astro orbiter. We also got to see Disney Philharmagic for the first time...all I can say was it was EXCELLENT!!! It is about time donald got the attention he deserves!
by this time it was almost time for the fireworks...we got a spot on the bridge between the castle and tomorrow land...excellent spot...we were right under where tinkerbell flies. Of course I got goosebumps and tears in my eyes during the fireworks because they are so incredible. One disagreement my mom and I had was if the flying tinkerbell was real. I say she was a real person, but my mom says no way...I am sure someone out there knows for sure. Anyway, we rested after the fireworks until the throngs of people left and then it was time for extra magic hours!!! Yay!!! but then I saw the lines for the rides and my good mood quickly vanished. The lines or the extra magic hours were worse then before the park closed. Space Mountain was line up all the way to astro orbiter...i am sure this was because they only had one line going but Geez! we walked around for alittle while longer, but there were so many people still there we decided to call it a day. We had a great time even though I did not get to space mountain. Regardless of the heat...i had a wonderful weekend and it makes me even more anxious to go in December.
