Just back yesterday from a short solo trip to the World. I received a postcard via email for a great rate and booked a standard room. I arrived Wednesday late afternoon and walked right up to check in. I was upgraded to a savannah view which was great - third floor right off the lobby.
Some highlights:
Mara is a great food area/snack bar. They really have some items that help submerge you into the African theme while still catering to the chicken-tender crowd. I used a casual meal voucher for dinner and was helped by Donald to pick out a great meal.
Four Giraffes munching each evening at dusk 50 feet from my balcony.
The pool was cool enough to feel refreshed in the afternoon. (sometimes heated pools don't feel good to me when it's hot out.)
All cast members were fabulous and knew their stuff!
Boma for breakfast was excellent. My server brought a pressed pot of coffee when he saw my breakfast voucher. He really helped maximize the voucher and the coffee was delicious!
The smells and sounds of the entire hotel were great. I loved being by the pool, looking at the giraffes and hearing soft African music.
The bus transportation was great. I was concerned as this was the first time I'd be in a Disney hotel without a car or duel access transportation (boat, monorail, bus) but the busses were great!
Some lows:
Guests who talked on their cell phones on the balcony.
I had to leave!
