We just got back on Saturday (9/28) from a week at WDW. Hot, Hot, Hot!!! But low crowds, so we were happy.

Checked in to the AKL for two nights. Booked a standard room and was upgraded to a pool view. Very nice view, actually. Rooms were small, but we were ready for that. They were sooooo clean and fresh. The shower heads were wonderful. And the lighting made for very relaxing afternoon rests. This resort is beautiful, but quite far from the action for us. This could work very well for someone who truly wants a relaxing vacation. The smell of the AKL is even relaxing. Will stay there to start our vacation off again, but only for two nights. We need to be able to walk to Epcot and MGM!!

Which brings me to my Beach Club story. We had bell servces come and ship our bags to the Beach Club on our last AKL day. We went to Epcot and then left to walk over to the Beach Club to check in. The woman behind the desk was so nice. She types in our name and smiles "I have good news for you guys...." I start thinking "Ooooohhhhh...Lagoon View"...I was so excited. We had booked a standard room here too. She then proceeds "You have been upgraded to the concierge level" OMG!! You could have knocked us over with a feather. Tears actually came to my eyes!

It was wonderful. The food selections were very nice and the desserts were delish! The staff was friendly and helpful. And, for the first time, we got towel animals!!!!!! We also received turn down service. I loved the robes. Phyliss was so nice to my son. If you ever see her at the Beach Club or Yacht Club (works both resorts), she is a very nice, happy woman!

We did not fax any requests this trip and it seemed to work in our favor. Go figure :-)

Were you aware of any renovations going on while you were there ???? I know the YC recently got room makeovers and I heard that the BC was next.:Pinkbounc

Wow, what a great upgrade! So happy to hear about your stay at the BC and AKL!

Yes, indeed :-( The pool seemed very ripped apart. We stayed at the Yacht Club in 2001 (pre renovations) and we could really tell the difference at the pool. Lots of construction going on there. Noisy construction. Nothing like laying on a chair, tring to relax and hearing a power drill :-)

Another thing that I must admit, our room at the Beach Club was worn. The television seemed small to me. But, we just came from the AKL where everything SPARKLED and the TV was a nice size.

We loved the concierge, though. It was a good move on their part, b/c they now have a new customer. We got a taste of it and LOVED it. We will pay for the BC Concierge level next time. That is, if there is a good AP/code rate offered.

Uh-oh, I am distressed by your post about the BC renovations. The pool area renovations are especially concerning to me. How big a nuisance where they? Do you have an idea when SAB will be done? I booked the BC because of SAB. I called Disney shortly thereafter and specifically asked about rennovations. Although the Lady was nice, she must have been clueless because she said that no rennovations were planned. (Later I found out, through this board, that YC and BC were having guest room rennovations) This was sometime in mid-summer. I read another thread where the postee called and asked the same thing. That postee got the same reply, 'no rennovations" If they are going to have renovations and refurbish SAB, I feel they should at least make it public. (There is nothing on their website) I would have strongly considered another resort. I can't now as I am leaving in less than two weeks.

Wow a free upgrade- that's so cool. I'm incredibly jealous-lol.

Happy to hear you had a great trip!!

So glad you enjoyed your stay at AKL and BC Concierge! I am traveling down in 3 weeks and will be staying at Beach Club Conceirge Level (great AP rate) wondering if you remember what room you were assigned and did you have a view of anything?
Did you notice if any of the Conceirge rooms have been refurbed yet? or are they working on that floor at all? Also, did you notice any "Smoking" rooms on that floor or are they all "Non-Smoking"??
Thanks in advance for any info you can give me! ;)

I can't remeber the exact room number, but I don't think any of the rooms are _that_ far from the lounge. The lounge is near the elevator, so you always get to pop in when coming or going.

Smoke:: We were in a non smoking room and it was fresh smelling. We had a view of Space Ship Earth. Nice. Could see a bit of the fireworks. Our room was NOT refurbished. It was smaller than most rooms, no day bed. Are they called "dormer rooms"?

SAB rehab--One spa was blocked off and there were mesh-like sheets hanging here and there. It bothered me the first few minutes, but then we were having too much fun to care. What was annoying was the drilling and power tool sounds. Hopefully they will be done by the time you get there.

I saw no rehabing going on inside the Beach Club while there, but the rooms need a fresh coat of paint.

You will love it. Really.
